GP's jumping is called popcorning... it means they R extremely happy..

Potty train... yes i've heard of some who succeeded in potty training them but i'm not one of those lucky owners...

Maintenance cost:
1) Pellets - RM25
2) Bedding - RM30 --> RM50
3) Hay - RM40
4) Vegetables - RM20

This is very rough estimation. It really depends on the brand
& type u buy. I spend about Rm250 to Rm300 on average for 5 GP's.
If u would like a more detailed costing.. feel free to ask me...

^^~

Orh usually.. Guinea pig dropping down....
the 1st thing that u should check is TEETH....
Because they always land face first...

The front teeth will usually break....
Their teeth will grow back in a week or 2....

But for time being have to monitor its eating habit...
U might have to crush the food and cut it into smaller pieces...

p/s; Nice GP u have there mr hikano! BOTH are really pretty...
both female?

ya sugarcoated is right... generally guinea pigs don't catch flu...
if they R sneezing badly.. it's respiratory problems...

But im not sure about the white eye discharge...
my guinea pig has it sometimes and i checked online it says it is normal ....

and yea..it's easy to learn how to cut ur own GP's nails...
just have to hold them firming so that they don't struggle during..^^~

have 1 question, do lady gp got period ??

this morning i found some blood stain at a corner of their cage, i do check their body properly, no wound and their private part clean too  shocking.gif
any1 experienced this b4?? shocking.gif
*
Kaoru's GP has experienced it before
I've seen it before too...when i just brought a female GP back home..
I thought it was period too...
But i checked online and found out its something serious...
perhaps it's urinary tract infection..
So i returned that GP to the breeder & exchanged for a male one
>_<~

yeah i do clean the cage every weeks. and the cage has changed once after their flea is cured. I suspect the flea is come from hay, is it possible?  hmm.gif
*
If not mistaken... should be from carpets & wooden materials.
Flea eggs can live for a long time without having to feed on anything. >_<~
So it probably didn't come from the hay.
Probably one of animal lovers biggest nightmaRe! (really hard to get rid of) rclxub.gif
I had this problem b4 & onLy way i managed to control it was to keep cleaning/changing the bedding
& using anti flea spray...

Unfortunately...If i stop.. they will come back eventuaLLy....T______T

1 question to ask some sifu here, is that alright while the gp drink the water bottle and get some water in it's nose? because every time i saw the nose have some water on it and i clean it with tissue.

Any solution for that as i know pet are not allowed to get water in nose.

2- If want to bath them only able to use cotton or coat to clean them rite? not able to bath since still small yet rite??
*
1 Erm.. not sure if it's ok but my guinea pig do get water on/in it's nose sometimes..
Changing the bottle might heLp though... What kinda bottLe aRe u using?

2 CoupLe of months oLd shouLd be ok to bathe aLready. Guinea pigs matuRe reaLLy fast.
Just don't do it too often & don't get wateR/soap into its eyes,eaRs & mouth.
Use waRm & bLow it dRy.

You can get it from any vet clinic. Try to call them 1st to confirm. smile.gif

Anyone has neutered their GP? How much and where is the recommended clinic? What are the procedures and does GP need to stay overnight at vet clinic? Thanks
*
I've neuteRed my GP b4 but I'm in no position to recommend any cLinic ...
coz my GP faced some compLications afteR suRgeRy & had to go back for 2nd suRgeRy...
so i wouLdn't daRe to simpLy recommend.
he's doing fine now though XD...

HoweveR ...the cost ranges between RM100+ to RM200+ depending on which cLinic u choose..
It'LL heLp to caLL up & ask befoRe u decide.
Tip: U shouLd aLso ask if the vet is expeRienced in neuteRing GP & how many they've successfuLLy neuteRed.
It'LL take onLy coupLe of houRs...
I think u'LL have to fast uR guinea pig the night befoRe, drop it off at the cLinic the next moRning & coLLect it in the evening.

Note: TheRe R to types of anesthetic.
1) InjectibLe - injects anesthetic into the muscLe & is veRy painfuL but aLot CHEAPER
2) Gas - inhaLed & puts the GP to sLeep but moRe costLy

Hello Guys. One of my Male GP currently have Dental Problem. He couldn't eat and i know his tooth is too long when i check on him.So we brought him to trim. For almost 3 days, he still dont eat much. I can see him he's very desperate for food but he can't open his mouth. My heart very pain. Sometimes i cut the vege and fruits until very very small pieces and feed him myself. Luckily he still can chew. I would like to know how to take care a GP with the same condition of my Male GP. What and How to Prepare food for them?
*
I have/had 2 GP's with dentaL pRob.
1) One was boRn with defoRmed moLars & couLdn't eat pRopeRLy..
The vet couLdn't save it... but I did manage to foRce feed it for coupLe of months b4 it died.
2) 2nd one is stiLL with me & has the same pRObLem as uRs. His teeth kept grOwing & he wouLdn't chew on anything haRd.
I got it tRimmed twice so faR & he's doing okay.

As for food wise...
1) I BLEND/CRushed theiR peLLets tiL it became Like sand.
2) I feed them softeR vegetabLes Like TOMATOes.

FoR emeRgency, if it stiLL doesn't eat much & Loses too much weight... u'LL have to foRce feed it by hand & that's kinda Risky..
1) BLend vegetabLe/fRuit juice & feed it using a syRinge.
2) Can try feeding it human baby food.
pRobLem with the syringe method is.. it might go down the wRong channeL & dRown the Lungs oR come out thRough it's nose.
So tRy not to use this methoD unLess u have no choice.

I've mixed my 5 months oLd GP with my 2.5 years oLd femaLe pig & they get aLong weLL.
Head butting & some dominating gestuRes are noRmaL.. as Long as they R not fighting/biting each other then u don't have to sepaRate them.
But Juztiny is right... some GPs are better off aLone. I have one Like that at home. But the thing is... I put theiR cages next to other GP's cages so they won't be LoneLy that way.

As for serious MITES problem... Advantage wont heLp d kua.
Advantage is onLy effective if it's a minoR infestation.
If not wrong, I can't remmeber very well but Advantage cannot kill every stage of the mites life cycle... forgot which one it cant kill...
(the stages include: eggs, larva, adult...etc).
Perhaps it can't kill the eggs so u'll have to keep applying it to keep killing the adults. (correct me if i'm wrong)
But I guess now.. should try ivermectin (taken orally or by injection).
