Added on November 16, 2009, 12:39 pmHi my dear,i believe tat is fungus la...hmmm..how many GPs u have?...How many of them they have the problem?...If juz only 1,i suggest u better seperate it with other (Quaratine) & i suggest u better use glove to touch you GPs...Actually fungus will no harm for human,but if ur skin r sensitive,its will make ur hand itchy...hmmm...if the symtom getting serious with ur GPs,u better take it to vet...Or,u can put some vitamin on their water..Sorry i forgot wat the name of vitamin d..Cuz my uncle will use it sometime for his GPs which have infected by fungus..The GPs will heal slowly..Its costly if he bring them to vet,cuz too much GPs liao..

I didn't hang them though, just put inside, sometimes they will play with it like kicking a ball rolling. You want to hang also can, use hot iron rod poke 2 holes, and then use the green plastic flexi wire string (those use for gardening) to tie the container on the cage.

did you recently bath them with the vinegar mixture or izzit that you do it a few times already? what type of vinegar do you use? I dunno why but i feel suspicious about the vinegar bath, maybe the amount of vinegar is too high that irritates the skin...do your GP keep scratching their fur as if they feel itchy?

yes giving them vitamin C could help heal the problem gradually, but if it become serious you should consult an exprerienced vet.

Hi there Kaoru, I just bathed them today before that they already start to shed their furs around the nose...both of my piggies are gals so i guess no way they are pregnant.Yes they scratch it once a while...no flaky stuff...just gradually the fur get fewer and fewer around the nose area. If getting more serious i guess they might not enough Vit C.So i guess i will buy the Vit C for them soon. Thanks very much for all advises...Really appreciates it.

Hi my uncle farm is nearby Sg.Buloh Hospital..Which it is very 'kampung' feel..hehe.. actually is not a GPs farm..Pet a GPs is my uncle hobby since when he was teenage, actually he is 1 of the breeder too...He always keep a nice nice GPs for breed..Sometimes he will trade his GPs wif Pet Shop to exchange some GPs food..hehe..cuz its quit costly for him if he juz only buy food for his GPs...So he juz do some exchange wif Pet Shop lo..

As i remember he keep 1 Boar Sheltie very long time oredi..Which is origin from Holland(im sorry,cuz dunno how he ship it to Malaysia)..

He always feed his GPs with a fresh grass(which they call 'cow grss')..hehe..all the time..cuz it cheaper than Hay & more healthy..He will feed his GPs a pellet once a day..Every once a month he will mix some vitamin on their water for them to drink..But im sure tat is not vit c..Cuz the vitamin he feed his GPs,is some of Vit tat human oso can drink..It juz like juice but is make by grass/vege..

And the GPs poo poo,he make it as a fertilizer for his plant..Now he was trying to plant Alfafa, but he said very hard to plant Alfafa in Malaysia maybe is because of weather problem..

On his farm,he got 2 "chi hua hua" & 1 "shi zu" is for sale too,he is the breeder for it too, few chicken, rabbit & normal dog ...hehe...He natural bussiness is farming actually..hehe...

Btw i have a fren he got 50 over GPs,at setapak last time but he give all to his nephew,neighbour & frens for free,when he plan to come to KL for work..But he told me,from first he juz bought 2 GPs (1 is boar & 1 is sow)..His father got a very small farm too & then he juz put his GPs at his father farm & d.i.y some 'pagar' for them...After a year,there is bout 30++ liao..But he nvr seperate them..Cuz last time he dun have any knowlege bout the in-breeding..But last time he was juz teenage (17++)..hehe..now old man liao...

i think its natural that way they live together and breed by ehemming each other. afterall who else they gana ehem right? of coz among of their group also. i dun think they will take flight to other continent to find partner and make babies :-s

hmmm...u means my uncle?...hmmm..nope..he put his guinea pig at behind his farm...which there quit hiding place la..he will seperate all his guinea pig to boar in 1 group & sow in 1 group...To avoid the sow get pregnant,cuz he got alot GPs liao ..So he dun wan they keep on deliver a new pups..hehe..

Last time he told me to avoid they get in-breeding...so he seperate all to different breed in different cage...he got about 20 cage ...each big cage have bout 4-6 GPs ...Different breed in different cage...He seem so expert everytime i ask "do u still remember who is their father or mother?"..He will juz answer "of course!.."Dunno he got entertain me or not la...haha...u know la,old man always wan 'face' geh...

it is a good story...lucky those piggies..In this forum the most GP that a member got I guess should be Juztiny which are 15 gps..but the stories that you share here is not only 10++ but all are about 50++really impressed with it...2 Gps enough to make me worry...if i got more than 10 Gps i sure go crazy...
Too bad your Uncle farm is not open to public or else we can arrange a group visit and have gathering there...LOL sure sure lots to share there...

Actually my uncle din stay there,tat place is only for him to do farming...If u know where the location at Sg.Buloh which there got alot of Farm Shop, there the place he put his GPs there..hehe..not so big..But his shop is not open for sale...i means the plant la.. he juz like distribute the plant to other farm only...(sorry for my bad english ya) ...But he stay nearby his farm 10-15minute can reach liao...

nah i wish my house is that big so that i can have garden just for guinea pigs.

I have 15 GPs, and I must say the maintenance costs are really quite high and costly. Cannot imagine keeping 50++, sure the breeder deprived those GPs' quality of life. My GPs consume 10kg of pellets in 6 days, so a month is about 50kg, around RM500 just for pellets alone (hagen), have not counted in hay like timothy or alfafa, vitamin C, fresh veg, etc. If I feed oxbow pellets, lagi broke!

ur spending is like paying car installment..
