@carol - yes thats right the original zoozone is much better in terms of durability.. the pet safari one.. aiyo mahal nak mampos and looks really fragile. Since you already have the zoozone 2 and your GPs doing so fine with it.. nvm let it be ^^ its ok with the fan no 2.. just not to cold ya during rainy days.. you can give them plenty more floortime if you have the time.. that way they can breath fresh air and have exercise XD
@Valeri - sry to hear about the loss. I think you did your best.. so chin up ^^ if you have a garden, just bury her there.. make sure other bigger animals wont dig it up. Btw to others who sent me pm on gps names, will update it at nite kays XD a bit busy today.. huhu my sister in law gave birth last week and i havent seen her yet.. so gonna be out whole day.. cheers |

QUOTE(jaswwp @ Apr 20 2009, 12:09 AM) I use cat carrier to transport my GPs to vet. Overgrown tooth is something that can be avoided by grazing activities Sometimes teeth trimming is needed if they are overgrown ma, don't blame yourself further for what happened. Complications with surgery happen now and then, sometimes also hard to say if its the vets fault. Keep us updated on how your GP is doing QUOTE(hitz @ Apr 20 2009, 09:19 AM) Hmm... think i'll put him in a shoe box also.. Easier to find.. Hehehehe.. Sometimes they will pee or poo there.. There are some that treat hay as sort of their bedding ><; GP eating their poo is also normal. The toilet you can try putting some hay inside there too, and at the same time pick all his poo that is not inside the litter box and put it inside there.. See if he wants to utilize it. It takes time to actually toilet train them.. Took me many months too But now he seem to afraid of me oredi since i catch him to bath last Sat... But will come out from his house when i feed him... Also is it normal that GP like to pee poo in his hay? As i bought him a new hay container for him.. He like to go inside there pee poo oh... Then eat the hay wor... He still dun wanna use the toilet.. |

QUOTE(nzx10 @ Apr 20 2009, 01:11 PM) its been weeks since my last visit. You will have to take her out.. bonding takes a lot of time, if she keeps running and struggling when you wanna pick her up, you can try luring her with her favorite veges and then slowly patting her... and then gently cup from her tummy and carry her out of the cage. And during floor time, you can lay still and let her explore you. If you have a soft baby brush, you can put her on your lap and then brush her.. my 2 girls loveeeee when it comes to brushing.. they will purrr and purrrr... like nobody's business.. But saphira the small one is still stubborn at times when i wanna take her out kk, my gp girl's name is ming~~ in chinese writing is -冥- our relationship has not improve, everytime i wanted to pad her, she will avoid my hand, running around the cage, playing hide n seek with my hand~~ sigh that is i can't bring her out for flooring time, she will struggle if i try to lift her~ but she will wheek me for food if she sees me guys, any advice on bonding? juztiny~ i am not a very good owner~swt |

QUOTE(jaswwp @ Apr 20 2009, 03:43 PM) You can try to pick out the GP and put her on your lap and pet her. After she settle down on your lap, give her a few small size treats like bits of carrot or rolled oats. Talk to her, pet her, feed her... sooner or later she will get used to you. I owned my GPs more than 1 year already but sometimes they still run away when I try to pat them in their cage but sometimes they are just fine with it. See mood I guess.... mostly I think they are ruled by their appetites yes only extreme cases ><.. but jacklene's rex im not sure if it was actually an extreme case that she had to trim it down Added on April 20, 2009, 3:48 pm In some cases they might break their top or bottom teeth due to chewing to hard on cage bars if they have that habit. Then the leftover teeth gets overgrown because of lack of grinding with the broken teeth. If like that then no choice but to trim the teeth until the broken teeth grow back. I have had cases where my pets teeth never grew back after being broken though |

QUOTE(jaswwp @ Apr 20 2009, 03:59 PM) Not sure... but with my pets, I found out the hard way that its better to trim it early... one of my pets, the teeth was extremely overgrown coz I was hoping she could grind them down herself after the 1st few trimmings. Ends up when I finally tried to trim it, she accidently bit herself with those long teeth when she struggle and her mouth was bleeding all over. I see.. how old was she when she had the overgrown tooth? Its probably for the vet to decide how long is too long I guess. |

QUOTE(meiixiin @ Apr 20 2009, 04:37 PM) Breed : Abby This is actually considered a really bad case of fungal infection.. It could be ringworms too but ringworms are hardly found on GPs. I hope you dint simply apply human antifungal cream at first Price: RM 40 at Ikano Power Center Pet Safari I buy one pair abby with my friend at Pet Safari 3 week ago, but now both of them also suffering of fungus infection. When buying we had noticed it, but we thought we can clean it by antifungus cream. And now become like this... Added on April 20, 2009, 4:49 pmWhat problem of my guinea pig? Is it fungus infection or lack of vitamin C? Already 3 days of treatment after come back from vet, his problem still same... Headache... » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Some prevention that could have been taken care of is through poor diet. Keeping the GPs surroundings not too dry, and not damp either can do a lot to prevent fungal infections from happening. Regular bathing with good moisturising shampoos and conditioners will maintain healthy coats, but it is important not to do this too often, monthly is fine, or you will strip too much of the natural oils from the coat. When its cold, be absolutely certain the pig is properly dry before returning him to an outdoor cage. Which vet did you take it to? And what was it diagnosed with.. fungal or ringworms? If you have other GPs.. better seperate them asap! Also.. i think we mentioned before in the previous version of GP corner.. PET SAFARI SELLS THE WORST TREATED GPS!!! And the shop keepers are NOT furnish with the proper ways of taking care or treating piggies! You should have checked thoroughly of the GP before buying it.. |

QUOTE(meiixiin @ Apr 21 2009, 12:27 PM) I also looking for a peruvian or sheltie! Dear i suggest dont sit on it too long.. Im just afraid if the vet you went previously did not know how to treat GPs.. Going to another experienced vet is not wrong, but its best! to save your GP. Having 2 point of views is better than one. But if you are going to dr Jenny... please bring along the prescribed meds that was given to u by the previous vet so she will know what the case was~ I suggest you dont wait till next week. Go as soon as you can within this week.. Preferably today or tomorrow.but don't know where got sell... Guinea Pig looks cute and sweet heart~ Wish you father will like it too... Added on April 21, 2009, 12:31 pm Yes, if still not cure next week, then I'll bring to Dr.J~ Thanks.. QUOTE(nezumitaro @ Apr 21 2009, 01:09 PM) about the 'don't support pet shop that sale underage or unhealthy pets', sometime we hv to blame ourself also. the consumer always say so loudly don't want to support these type of pet shop, yet when these type of shop like toby pet in pet safari hving promotion or big sale. still all these 'talk big' ppl rush n buy their things. the world is round, while we buy anything from them, end up also supporting them. those profit they make will help them buy in more unhealthy pets n so on.. if u really think u not going to support these type of pet shop, especiall lousy like toby pet, ask urself again if there are BIG SALE, will u go? say RM1 for 1 cage? or RM1 for a pack of food? will u go?? before we scolding them, its time to make up our own mind.. did we do our own part... |

QUOTE(Roborovskii @ Apr 21 2009, 02:06 PM) i got some question to ask abt GP... Yes they are a rodent BUT NOT a rat or hamster.. They do belong to the Caviidae family.is that gp a kind of rat or hamster etc??? is that gp's food kinda same wif hamster? (i got 2 roborovskii in my room) Is that gp potty will cause a strong smell???( this 1 vry important,my mom kill me off if got) GP food is NOT the same with hamsters.. if you think of saving coz you already have hamsters, then this isnt your kind of pet. GP can be potty trained if you have persistence in training them.. They poo neatly and gets dry.. it wont smell UNLESS you dont change their enclosure often. I change my GP cage every 4-5 days.. it takes a lot of work because they poo and pee a lot. They are also heavy eaters. @Chinchillas - have you reported such action and have the SPCA ever responded to such call? Edit: I have just gotten off the phone with a nice lady from SPCA ampang.. She told me the real story.. They DONT in general take actions towards such cases (Things that we discussed before). There are more concerned with wellbeing of Dogs and Cats. Because she said when it comes to small and furry.. its too general. They cant do anything much. It will be a little waste of time and effort, furthermore she refuse to take on the details i have with me on pet safari.. but instead asks me to email it to spca. Take note also... SPCA HAS INSUFFICIENT FUNDS to fund themselves. Venturing into these kind of actions will also involve money.. which they dont have much of.. Also as far as i know.. there is no such hierarchy in SPCA where there are managers, supervisors etc etc.. This is a voluntary/charity body... So... i dont think there wont be any action taken.. eventually.. it will lead back to us as consumers.. what we can do is just boycott the livestocks in safari.. thats all. I will be calling PAWS tomorrow and get an insight from their side to see if anything they can do.. but i doubt the results will be sunny side up This post has been edited by SugarCoatedCandy: Apr 21 2009, 02:46 PM |

QUOTE(scorpgal @ Apr 21 2009, 02:37 PM) I disagree.First, we did not say we dont support the pet shop. we only said we dont encourage to buy GP in Ikano..mean that we do not support the live-life animal in Ikano. Dear i dont understand.. by reading your reply seems like you agree with nezu..but you say you disagree? Second, even though they having BIG SALE for the animal...it's still NOT WORTH..coz those are unhealthy animals..less say if 15 ringgit per guinea pig(50% off).but the guinea pig is having kinda disease like fungus, mite or lice.so that the cost for healing the diseases should be count into the cost..i personally classified as implicit cost to it. For my case i spent 44 ringgit for the medical and the consultation fee. so total spend for one GP cost me RM59. its actually more expensive than the cost u spend on those petshop who selling healthy GP.right? Third we are not scolding them,we just need to raise up the public awareness.coz we dont hope that the buyer loss their money in buying such unhealthy animal and end up disappointed with it. |

Yes, they will answer your questions and will explain to you what is they authurity and what they can do. But this is is EXTREAME untill i cannot tolerated, so I called. I dont find GP in Pet safari on that 'level' yet for any of your who care to act on that. As a said, they feed them, no sickness, no 'big big' problem'. They might have changed the modus operandi then.. Its now 2009. Things work differently i guess.. |
