Hey guys! I just got a pair of male and female guinea pigs from my friends as a birthday present! THEY ARE EXTREMELY CUTE! I named them Chuck and Blair They are currently living in a cage. They don't seem active.. And when I wanna carry the female one, she shrieks(I'm not sure if that's called a shriek) Any advices guys? I wanna keep them for a very long time!
Oh yeah, another question, what's the breed?

hi guys!

theres something wrong with my gp. one of its teeth seems like, loose. the lower teeth. i didnt realize it until today i was checking his mouth while he was licking me. it seems wobbly (i dunno how to describe it).

but he's been eating well, finish all his pallet though he eat less hay. i dunno what cause this.

It is Abby breed...the box that u used for hidey seem too big la..and it taken most of the cage space...a show box will be just nice for them...try to change to a smaller box enough to let them hide and pls just just either small feeding bowl or big one and not both cos all take spaces...LOL....if u put big one then will usually both of them eat and pee and poo in the bowl...i will suggest u put big one when they are toilet train...put small bowl with pellets and then give them alfafa hay to boast them up...Kekeke...i am good at this la tat is why both my gps chuuby like me Good luck!!1

Added on October 11, 2009, 7:28 pmCongratulation wor...they are so adorable...pls give them a week time to get use to ur house environment...usually they will hide in the box or hidey cos they are scare to be harm...give them some time...eventually they will come out...give them food and make the trust there...do not shock them with bathing yet cos they might not trust u anymore...
I saw a member said that GP period???I got 2 females and I can tell u that the GPs do not experince period la...he is lying or he dunno anything about GPs...i mean the shop keeper....i think that gp might be sick...poor gps...after a week and once they are comfortable with u then only u start with the bathing thing... u can use basin and then put cloth and then put warm water...and put ur gp in and calm it down cos usually it will cari lubang lari one...so pls handle one by one if u dunno their behaviour...they look clumsy but they can jump and run real fast....Calm down by calling its name and talk to it...(sound crazy) but it works for me...kakakaka then use Takashiro's method should be able to get rid of the mites...it is difficult to cure but it is better to cure now then later..it will make the GP weak...Remember bath the GP and also Wash the Cage with vinegar as well...it kill the remaining eggs and mites in the cage. Added on October 11, 2009, 7:34 pmMite mite dun bite human but it will makes our skin irritating so wash ur hand after u handle ur gps...GPs sure bite when it is wrongly handle...the way u hold them and cuddle them if they pain then they will ngaw u...(bite) oh another incident is...do not take pellets or hay and then after tat u touch them and play their chin it will also cause it bites u...Why? cos they tot ur finger is food...yummy...fleshy pellets...Kakaka kena many times already numb with it...dun hit ur gps cos they dunno one all u can do is just slightly pinch it fur on the back their..and usually it will wheek la...just a second just to let it know it hurt u...then later it will bite u less...

Where to get show box?`Also, from the pic, can you guess how old they are? Cause according to my friend, she said the guinea pigs js arrived at the shop today.

Well they r fine now.. jus finish customize the cage for them.. But ya.. Jus like u say chubbyangel.. They jus hide in the box and stay put.. But once i take out the box.. They become active.. Come out lookin for food and pooing.. Lol.. A lot of poo lor.. Yesterday their poo is all dry and golden brownish colour bt jus now i gav them red pepper,lectuce, baby tomato and cucumber ..their poo is now a bit wet and black in colour.. Is it normal.. the male is a bit brave now let me touch d.. But the female will always run away when my hand come near.. Timid little gal but quite smart as she is toilet train d.. But the male will jus pee and poo at house and at each corner.. Lol.. Well hope they r comfortable with me soon..

n her fren dad built a really big cage(mayb should say house) for them..

larger than a dog cage, mayb twice...

that time they r so happy with d guinea pigs...

but now all just a memory already..died many years ago..

i past my childhood tgt with them..~~sad

My guinea pigs won't let me hold them! >.<
I can only touch them, and when I sayang them, they stay quietly. Haha!
And they wont eat carrot and that erm.. salad vege, if you get what i mean, why aa? They only eat the dried grass my friend bought from the shop and pellets.
Also, I let them sleep in the balcony with a sheep skin covered above the cage, is it okay? Will they catch a cold?
There are white stain on the hardcover i put inside the cage, what is it?
I'm sorry, I'm new to this, so alot of questions.. Hope you guys can advice! Thanks in advance!

i think u should put a mat at the base, wire is not good for gp little foot..

Sayang them by giving them fave food...and cuddle them...rub their chin( that is my piggy fave) each piggy have different personality so u just need time to get to know them...they are just like ur new friends....
if u scare they bite...let them smell ur hand and then only u touch them...bite painful or not ar???( u say le?) Sure painful la...if u can tahan sakit u can try lo...hahah but no guarantee it will not bleeding ar...

Wah so many food at a time ar...pls do not feed too much vege for young babies...feed them more hay Alfafa at the moment..and Oxbow pellets(if possible) or Hagen also no problem...well, it is wet and black is normal but but if too wet mean ur gp cirit beret la...need to see vet lo...dun give too much vege at a time...pls see first page as some of the vege are bad for gps such as lecttuce( some type la) The gps loves it but no nutirition values...give them as treat not as meal...Cucumber as well dun give too much as too much water in the vege can cause cirit beret...The reason why i keep remind u cos cirit beret can caused death to ur gp...

as they r still new to u kot.. salad vege is sense of lettuce right? slowly introduce to them lor.. mine simply lov lettuce and cucumber..a few dash of red pepper and baby tomato.. lol.. tis morning they walap everything in 10 minute..lol.. sheep skin? fleece( selimut bulu kambing) better lor.. ur balcony windy ma? if windy better not.. later they will fell sick i think.. take a box and cut the bottom and cut some door for it.. it provide them some plc to hide at least.. mine still timid but this morning they were squeaking to get food.. but once i come near they run hiding under the box.. once the food go in.. come out terus.. cute betul..

one thing i wanna know is .. is it normal for they pee colour to be yellow gold? like tat cukup minum saje.. but they walap a lot of water lor 100 ml finish in 1 nite..at first i thought leak.. but no leak.. so mean all went to their tummy.. but why their pee still yellowish.

Quite windy, thats why my mom put the sheep skin above the cage. The sky is quite dark now, so I brought them and put in my house before I go to school. Yeah, I cut a box and let them hide inside, they are only active when I take the box out. Hahaha!
Still same questions ler.. I saw white stains in the box in the cage, what is it?

White stain in sense of powdery substance or jelly substance.. Powdery substance should be calcium lor.. As u feed them pellet and hay ma.. So their pee has much mineral .. Once evaporated left the mineral behind lor.. If jelly substance mean sperm kot.. Lol.. But urs seem still young to be mating d...

White stains is the pee stain....u can use vinegar to wash it....but if hidey box no need la...u can just throw away and buy put new one...Gps also like tunnels too...so u can put in potato chips container(clean and dryed) u will see them running in and out the tunnel...just like DBKL working... very very funny...oh u will also see white stain on the cage so when u clean ur cage just need to put some vinegar on the spots and u will see bubble appear...dun worry it is chemical reaction...acidic ma.. then u just wash with wash....I would suggest you to wash ur cage with vinegar and then dry it with hot sun...to kill all mites mites and eggs that hide in the cage....and for ur gps...just use Takashi's method should be good...

maybe they do not have enough water when they are at the pet shop so just give them water as usual la...should be fine..as my gp they like to play with the water bottle...(hahaha how to play?) they like to make noises with the bottle sucker there...play with the ball in between the tube.mine like to play with it when i am kan cheong watching tv...always kena marah one..kakaka...

About the food...Pellets and hay always in cage...they will eat and munch watever in cage just let them cos beside pee pee and poo poo they will just eat their heart out..so no matter how much u put they will also hamtam habis one...so do not put too much vege in...sure habis one...cos it is like meat to them.Fresh and crunchy yummy... so for ur baby you can give vege twice a day morning and evening...small plates with 2 leaves of vege each gp,1 pieces of bell peppers enough...then u rotate the veges...can always change it to your liking...do not give cucumber and lettuce everyday ar...it can kill ur gps...just once in 3 days...same goes to carrots...selang seli the vege...cos everyday same vege also bored and too much Vit A can illness read on the page 1.all the info stated there...My gps already 8 months so can figure out what they like and dun like lo...They love green green hay....Do take the new cage picture to share with us...

can they also eat yellow pepper bside red pepper? the lettuce i feed is romaine lettuce as suggested at 1st page not the iceberg lettuce so i thought is ok.. well since according to u not so good then will cut down la..

Yellow, red and green bell peppers can be given make sure the seeds are cleaned properly~ Bell peppers are good and high in vitamin content
Like chubby said cucumber and lettuce isnt so good. Both has like practically no nutrition values, just water content. Feed sporadically~

Try celery my babies loveee it~ its also good for their kidney

Hi Sugar, well, my piggy used to like celery bit now...just baby spinach,purple spinach and they eat cucumber in 1 minutes...really unbelievable...when they like it they eat very fast when dun like whole day also still there... Oh celery good for kidney...thanks for the info~~

ok will try celery some other day.. feed sparingly or can be everyday? i mean the celery? wat kind of vege can be feed everyday?
