i'm about to buy a new computer.

let say i install itunes in it.

during the first time i connect my iphone to the computer for syncing, will itunes copy all the data (song, video, app, etc) & backup everything in my phone into the itunes?

i'm asking this cos some people say it'll clear the iphone music cos in the pc itunes, there is no music. i'm just worry on that. is it sync from pc to phone? or sync from phone to pc?

is there any extra setting that i should be aware of?
*
it's a one way syncing for the most part.

in the case of apps, music, films and music videos that you bought with your iTunes Account - as long as you authorize iTunes for every iTunes Account that you use prior to syncing; and then use transfer purchases it can be copied to the new computer.

Transfer purchases method DOES NOT WORK with apps/music/films/music videos that you didn't buy from iTunes Store.

in the case of contacts - you can have the option to merge with new data.

@valiz

if you login to your personal maybank account in m2u.com, you can personally register for Maybank Secure Online Shopping. It's under Utilities. You're good to go after that.

Alternatively, you can activate it by calling up your CS.

did you authorize your computer before syncing?

p/s: if you were to sync your iphone to a newly unsynced and unauthorized computer, a notification window stating that it'll delete the apps in your iphone as it's not authorized will pop up right? haven't you come across this window before?

Hi there,

I'm experiencing the same issue as well, a pop-up that says it will delete all my iPhone apps when I tried to sync my contacts.

I recently bought a MacBook Pro and an iPhone 4. Both are brand new with the exception that iPhone 4 is running 4.3.3 (JB).

Is there a solution to this?

Your help is much appreciated  notworthy.gif

Thx

I've just 'Authorized' my MBP and tried to resync with my iPhone. Still no luck.

Here's what I did.

1) After I've checked the 'Sync Address Book & Contacts' box, I noticed that the 'Sync' button at the bottom right corner has changed to 2 buttons, 'Revert' & 'Apply'.
2) When I clicked on 'Apply', the warning message pops-up.

Hiya. smile.gif

iTunes authorization will only work for apps/books/movies and songs that you purchased and downloaded genuinely from App Store and iTunes Store. It won't work for other contents that are downloaded outside of these 2 stores. If you have authorized your desktop iTunes with all the necessary authorizations; and have transferred your purchases; all of the bought contents will be in their respective folder/tabs in iTunes.

You said you've authorized your laptop, but have you click transfer purchases? [in iTunes, FILE>>TRANSFER PURCHASES or right click on your device's tab]

After transfer purchases, you can safely sync your iPhone. The pop-up window will still give you the warning that it'll delete all the apps currently in your iphone as this is your initial sync with your MBP. Go ahead and proceed, as all the apps are already transferred to your laptop. You will however loose any saved data on your apps like saved gameplay for your game apps.

For your contacts, it won't delete your current contacts with empty data. For an initial sync, it will merge the contacts from your iPhone and your MBP. After the sync, you should be able to browse your contacts from iPhone in your desktop Address Book app in MBP. [That's why there's another choice of Replace Information in INFO>>ADVANCED if you want to delete all the current contacts]

Does that help you? wink.gif

Bro,

Good to hear from you!  smile.gif

You are right about the 'Authorization' feature that's purely intended for media contents, no thanks to DRM (Got to know this after surfing the web for answers).

Well the popup message is kinda scary as I did not encounter it in my old 2G iPhone and MBA during the initial sync.

Couldn't wait for your reply and just bite the BULLET!!!  sweat.gif

IT WORKED!!! Phewww... After reading some many syncing issues on iTunes online about deleting apps and stuff,  this is a huge relief.

I spent half a day searching for sync alternatives e.g Fliq, Google Sync, iPhone Contacts Backup Tool, Missing Sync, Mobile Me and other cloud apps including calling Apple Support.

Best thing is you were able to explain much better than the Apple Support dude from Australia  thumbup.gif

This is sound advise!! Kudos, Raeshad  cheers.gif

Now I'll have to go figure out how to master that darn Parallels Desktop 6 on Win 7  doh.gif

if this happens in your iPhone, the logical thing is that you have bought some of the apps that needs updating from your MY account. Check the list of updates and see whether there're any apps that you bought from your MY account?

Or, if you just key in the password for your MY account and update, would that solve the problem? or would it still persist?

hi, want to ask, i have downloaded game thru itunes, using my broadband. then, the download is completed. the problem is why i sync the game, it doesnt showed up on my iphone? sorry noob question..
*
you downloaded the game from your desktop iTunes?

assuming that you've authorized your computer and you've specifically ticked (✔) to sync that game, but it wasn't synced to your iphone; the most common problem would be incompatible iOS and/or iPhone generation BUT if this were the case, usually there'll be a pop-up window stating as such. hmm.gif

@nairud. well, it's worth checking. i have accidentally bought the same app from 2 different accounts ie Eire and MY before, and when I thought I bought it from one account, it's actually the other.

in that case, if i were you i'd just update the apps in question from desktop iTunes and sync. it would solve your current problem as the apps are updated, but if it were to show up in the future who knows, as you haven't found the underlying problem nod.gif

i use Maybank and CIMB, no problems using either. (have to enable MSOS for Maybank - Maybank Secure Online Shopping. Can be done from your online banking webpage, or your CS). iinm, iTunes accept all debit cards.

@vez, i've encountered the exact same problem before. you can try google for the answers as I remember there's a specific thread for this in the macrumours forum.

I didn't manage to solve it. In the end, I ignored it, and got rid of it when i re-installed SL. [it wasn't the reason why i reformatted my laptop though].

sorry if that wasn't what you hoped for biggrin.gif

Is it true that when I sync my iPhone to the other pc(2nd pc)..the apps that are in my iPhone will be removed because the 2nd pc don't have the apps that is in my iPhone?
*
If the second computer is not authorized, and you were to tick sync apps; IT WILL remove all your apps.

guys,

im abit faded over here. my problem, my pc was upgraded recently. thus, during upgrade, the itunes which i installed was removed unintentionally. now in my new machine, if i were to install itunes again, is there by any chance i can retrieve the back-up or copy datas from my ip to the newly installed pc?

thanks guys...
*
for your backup, it depends on whether you backup folder was also deleted. read this here iPhone Backup Location and if it's still there, you might only need to reinstall iTunes. For your apps - just do transfer purchases. THEN ONLY, you may sync your iphone.

is it a fresh install or an upgrade? you're toast if it's the former. hmm.gif

its a new pc indeed~

You didnt answer my question dude. hmm.gif

But if youre saying that you wanna sync ur iphone to a new pc now, uve gotta do some trivial things like transferring ur apps, data, contacts and other contents to your new pc before syncing.

If however, you're still on the same machine that got upgraded; have a look at the backup location to see if it's still there coz u can then just restore from backup. (this obviously cant be done if it was a fresh install obviously)

I'm sorry, but i dont really get what you're saying in the first place, but i hope that helps biggrin.gif

bro, its a totally new machine...old pc was upgraded to a greater version....wers the options to do the tranferring thingy?
*
Sorry im late in replying...

You can get them by right clicking ur device's name in iTunes and select transfer purchases. BEFORE THAT however, remember to authorize your new pc with your Apple ID(s).

That'll take care of your purchased contents (apps, movies, mvs, songs etc) from iTunes and App store. You have to google to find out for the rest of your contents ie songs, mvs and contents that weren't bought from iTunes/App store on how to move them from your current iPhone to your new PC. Basically have to use a third party app like DiskAid/PhoneView to get them all back.

Your contacts won't be deleted. Even if you to sync your contacts, it'll ask whether you wanna merge, keep or delete, so just choose keep the data in iphone.

Photos that were taken from your iphone can be transferred using picasa or another substitute. Pictures from your old machine that was synced to ur iphone however have to use the same 3rd party app as above to get them all back.

Hope that clears some of your questions biggrin.gif
