cos HDMI is a TV standard, and Apple is looking at the future... HDMI can't power up the 30" Cinema display, and AFAIK, you can't take a HDMI cable and attach to most projectors...

its not about the size of the display, its about the resolution.
I just saw one 100" LCD TV, resolution still 1920 * 1080... sure it looks nice... the iMac 27" is 2560 * 1440 ... so how now? and miniDisplayPort was just ratified as a VESA standard this month... so its not "their own standard" ... if you really need to connect to a HDTV with full everything (including 5.1 audio) ... just visit Kanex.com |

its not recommended, cos the power supplied by the MacBook is less than what a PC RAM needs.
if you want to install anyway, remember to save everything *before* allowing the MacBook to sleep. also... some forum members have been reporting their MacBook is fine... but YMMV... |

AFAIK, up to 500GB can fit into the MacBook.
HDD can't affect the quality of the video... I'd suggest calling the AppleCare hotline and finding out the real reason. |

you can contact Apple service centers and ask them for their estimates.
typically, they would charge you labour (about RM100 or so) list of ASP is > linked here |

@ojimaru
10.6 Snow Leopard cannot be installed in non-Intel (AKA PowerPC G4 & G5... @pezal you will have to go shopping for a 10.5 original DVD. Good luck with that, it was phased out on Oct 2009 so you will have to find someone who actually bought a retail disc. Also, original Restore DVDs will not work, those are made specific for each model & there was no 10.5 release for PowerBook G4. |

@pezal. I have no idea, no idea and no freaking idea. its an OS that was phased out 11 months ago... I don't think anyone is keeping stock.
if you copy someone's retail DVD, that's piracy... and that's not allowed on this forum. |

um... that model is nearly 7 years old. Apple doesn't make parts anymore.
so you might be looking at a RM1000 + repair cost because the GPU is part of the main logicboard, and those are not cheap |

well... part of Apple's ease of use & support is that they only use certain hardware specifications. this means that your experience with a Hackintosh is not 100% what Steve & Jony & Bertrand expect you to get...
@n8210 if you wanted to buy a cellphone, how? cos there's no way to install iOS on a Nexus1 or Samsung Galaxy ...? |

well... now with Boot Camp, the issue of "can I keep using Windows" is not relevant. you can switch at any time!
this means we r getting a better deal than buying a PC, cos most PCs nowadays cannot install WinXP / Vista, cos no drivers. anyway... I don't find a Hackintosh a good 'testing' ground, mainly cos its too technical for the prospective Mac users. |

what I'm trying to say is, over the last 5 years, Apple has made a significant effort to engage the general public, who just want to buy a computer and do their stuff.
getting a Hackintosh is not an option for them. I've lost count of the number of people who I've recommended buying a Mac, and they've come back and thanked me for it. |

I'll say it again... we are not the target market.
Apple's goal is our non-technical relatives / friends. |

@the_aki
1. you missed out an important step. go check the sofware you use, does it support > 4 GB RAM. if it doesn't, you'll have additional RAM that's just sitting there doing nothing. 2. if your Mac is under warranty, do remember that the additional RAM has separate warranty. If you buy from shop in LY... get them to install it & test. there's no guarantee that it will work fine. buying from Machines or any other Apple Premium Reseller will have a 'it just works' guarantee |
