Previously I have heard someone complaining about some sort of electrostatic charge feeling on the MBP cover when you plugged in your 85W power adapter... Just wanna ask if anyone else facing this type of issue? But you have to brush it with your two fingers left to right to get the feel of it.. Whole palm couldnt get the feel...

Oh thanks wei for the link... read it somewhere but couldnt find it... =)

Added on April 28, 2010, 6:16 pmI will try with the longer power cord tonight to see if the problem still persists... But even if its ok to use the longer one.. Isnt it still a problem with the shorter 3 pin plug? Should we ask for a replacement or everyone will definitely have this issue?

i think you don't understand. the problem is that current is not well-grounded at your wall-plug / extension. that's why you need the ext-plug to provide a good ground. actually, a well-connected socket would not have this effect.

hey there, sorry but I really dont understand LOL.. forgive my lack of knowledge for the wall-plug/extension (is it the 85w adapter?) and also ext-plug (no clue ???) term. Which part is that? sweat.gif

Ok let me interpret again... There are 2 type of connectors that comes with the MBP right? One is the longer one (extension cable) with a proper 3 pin plug but another is just a head with 3 pin plug. And we now know the head with 3 pin plug is the one causing all the static problems right?

So if our wall sockets are bad then we have to use the extension cable (longer one) but if we have good wall sockets then we can use back the head only with 3 pin plug... Am I right?

If Im right that is what I meant in my previous post where I said ill use the longer one to test which is true I dont get any static charge.. and what im asking that why apple isnt doing anything to solve this issue? Isnt it bad for such a thing to happen?

@xaw5126 If we have low quality sockets then why other electrical devices dont get statics like MBs? This is apple's problem right?

Ok.... So I guess its all the Malaysia's developers fault for not properly grounding wall sockets.. Thanks for the explanation...

LOL.. Ok so not Malaysia's plug are the only one facing it... So whats the point of giving that plug if it is a known problem? Why not just give the longer one which can solve the problem? and why not the shorter one have the same feature as the long one that doesnt produce static? Im sure they charge us for the plug right?

Added on April 30, 2010, 9:10 amShould lodge a complaint to apple for this small defect...

Yea called the apple store... But too bad I dont have my MBP with me didnt manage to give them my serial number... But they asked me to call them back later... Ive told them that it shouldnt happen and they said yes but need a proper grounding and I asked him why the other connector doesnt give this problem and he diverted my question and ask me to call back later.... =(

I spoke to someone with an american accent... So do you think local apple reseller employs that type of person? Of course not. And yes I called the number that you stated there duh...

Pay what attention? Pay attention to your useless comments? I guess not.

Hmm... did u try uisng any movie DVDs? Did you only try CD? I think the best is to get it to the service center or the easiest way right now is to give apple care a call to see if they can help you diagnose what is the root cause of your super drive...

Then once you confirmed the root cause then maybe wait till you are free then you could send it to the service center... If you need to use the superdrive urgently, get an external drive for temporarily usage like what ojimaru said..

What WD HDD do you have? Is it the mac version? Why did your WD hard disk workable without any formatting and 3rd party app installation but your hitachi cant work... All HDD are mostly NTFS formatted unless it is the mac version.

@leeseng1990 If its not the mac version then it should be NTFS formatted and how did a NTFS formatted WD HDD can work on a Mac? Unless you are telling me its FAT32 formatted which I doubt it is...

Why not try polishing yourself? Try googling around.. Im sure there will be some ways..

Here is a guideline from apple website
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3226?viewlocale=en_US

And im sure you could use iklear or some other cleaning detergent and use it with a cloth

Hi all sifu. If I am buying my Mac thru educational store Malaysia, warranty wise possible to send to Machines or MacStudio? Please enlighten me thanks

Any apple service center will cover the warranty for you as its an international warranty unless your warranty is expired. Normal Mac comes with 1 year warranty unless you bought apple protection which extends it to 3 years total.
