Seriously have you driven the beetle before you comment? I have driven my friend's beetle 2.0 before and its not "overpowered" at all, seriously i mean it.

A 2 Liters engine with only 115PS and 172Nm of torque on a car that weighted almost 1400kg? Overpowered? Are you serious?! flex.gif It's enough for daily use, once a while spirited driving but its not overpowered.

I have no comment on the 1.6L as I never drive it before, but imagine a 1400kg car with only 102PS and 148Nm of torque hmm.gif

is this meaning 2.0 is juz nice 4 the beetle?? but the price is 158k.. sad.gif
tested the 1.6 but then when the car stops..n wanna move again... no pickup. but after moving then it is smooth.

was told tat everything is the same for 1.6 and 2.0 except the engine, unlike toyota or honda cars. diff cc... u get everything diff inside too.

so buying 2.0 won't be so worth it ??

what i try to say is
1.6 may b worse than 2.0 in power for sure la tongue.gif
don ever get cream interior
else yr interior gets dirty real easy

of new beetle
the interior r full of plastic stuff
for long time being, things here n there break -.-
even the dashboard can b like a crayon surface for u to draw a world map
so b prepared if u wanan buy this car unless u got tons of $$$ to spend in maintenance
it;s a great driving car but the interior quality not as nice as benz o bmw -.-

for income tax purpose
cars above 150k can only claim capital allowance of RM50k
if RM100k-150k then u can claim for RM100k for capital allowance tongue.gif

the pick up would be heavier than a myvi, but comparing to that isnt fair, since the vw beetle would be a better crash proof car! this is just an 8 valve engine. anyways, whats the price of the car, have u considered a mini?

the price without insurance for 1.6 is 140k while 2.0 is 158k

dun quite like mini as it is lagi small.

rcrex- the interior quite nice lei... tongue.gif n the sales person advised to get cream color becoz he says it is nicer.. n to prevent dirt.. he recommend one type of spray.. which is actually quite good. he did the demo for us to see. can straight make the cream leather clean n like new again. dun believe, u can go to jln ampang vw n see that white herbie beetle with cream interior. how come cars can claim from income tax? din know abt that. care to elaborate more details ??

just fyi. i went to the curve VW showroom today. they have a pre-registered golf gti Mk5 selling form 178,888. it was rejected by the buyer coz got a slight dent on the interior of the roof, so now selling at discounted price.
the SA says can pay 6k DP and drive away the car with 2.9K installment a month for 9 years @ 2.4% interest.

didnt try the beetle, but test drove the 1.6L jetta. should be same engine, 8 valver. underpowered. but the jetta had a 6 speed auto that is pretty good at masking the lack of power. not sure if the beetle uses the 6speed or not. too lazy to check tongue.gif

The beetle is a very "cute" car..
If u can afford a >RM100K car, is fuel consumption really a matter?? doh.gif
Go for a test drive, then u'll knw whether u like it or not..
The spec is also nice, and it's a cult car..
I went to 'feel' the car @ VW The Curve..it's nice~
For me, I'm not used to the huge dashboard..it's like there's a car in between u and your front bumper! shocking.gif

to me, the interior isn't that nice. not much to my liking and somehow doesn't feel high quality. if you're getting it, it's definitely for the beetle design and the VW logo

Maybe it's due to the hot humid malaysian weather that's spoiling the plastics which are used to the cool and dry weather where they are customized for the country they were sold.. hmm.gif

estimated from Goh Brother (VW dealer), cause my GF is going for the convertible version, they can't confirm the exact prices (170k++ but not sure how much the ++ lah), arriving date should be July (if i remember correctly) ....

BTW all VW is CBU.

Convertible water leaking ? yes most convertible or targa top car face same problem, no worry only minor issue can be solve by changing rubber tongue.gif

guess what
in those europe country, summer season can get even higher temp n winter for freezing temp
juz those plastic parts r annoying when they breaks
i hav always asked to import those parts from VW SG juz to replace those worn parts -.-
yet i hope new VW wont hav such cheap material issue
maybe someday i'll juz trade in this beetle juz to change a golf gti tongue.gif

darlyn,
as i mentioned, if u are just cruising around in town or highway... 1.6 will be fine...

if u wan to "race", then 1.6 will be severely underpowered...

but you are thinking of getting the 2.0 version... why not go for the 2.0 version then?
the extra power will come in handy in the event you need it

seriously the 1.6 is underpower for city drive even with the new 6sp gear box (that car to heavy for sux small engine), go for 2ltr ....
btw the is base on Golf mark 4 + extra weight ...

I try to reconfirm abt the prices first .....

One need to realise that CBU cars if manufactured in Europe are subject to strict EU regulations on environment conservation.

So 90% of the plastic/fiber components for the interior are degradable material. Even the glue used.

Probably certain interior parts would start falling apart after 10 yrs.

darlyn: so have you bought your beetle?

the 1.6 is really underpowered

i have found a few 2.0 yr 00 to 01 onwards... selling at 80K++

i think its wiser to get a used one

Just drove a brand new 1.6 today... just have a short drive since is not my car.. wrote a very very mini 1st impression on the new Beetle. Hopes will have another opportunity to properly test it again before the actual fair comments / review for it.
