If you don't utilize the 1GB mem, then will you think you will utilize the 8GB?

The answer of this question is the answer of whether you want the 16GB.

Well, the only times when I'll really max out the storage on my iPhone is when I copy movies into it to watch. and even then, I tend to rotate the movie contents on the device every now and then. Even on my 16gb iPod Touch, I've not managed to hit 8gb of usage as yet

ok.. i am 3G 8GB user..i still left 4.27GB in my iphone.. I am not heavy multimedia user.. The peak time i have was 3 movie in my iphone.. Still have 1 movie now in my iphone.. And i have 7 Song's album on it...
If u are heavy multimedia user, then go for 16GB.. this means that u can have 10 movie & maybe 20-30 albums i guess..

Bro, it actually boils down to ur own needs. The price difference between da two is not tat vast tat u hv to draw up a diagram considering da factors. Arnd 100-200 bucks diff. If white is wat u want, well tat doesn't leave u with much options, ( case of sm1 I noe ;p)
I've got 16gb but it's not always full.
Had a fren who wanted to get an i3g. Same ques n situation. I told him if he really not gonna use up all da space, then save the extra cash n add in to get a decent pair of earphones or iTunes cert or any cases.
It proved really useful for him. smile.gif
U hv ur option n resources. Choose wisely.

I have inserted 9 pages apps, videos + songs and for that I only utilized approx. of 6gb memories. My opinion is, if u really can utilized more 8gb then only go for 16gb.

I've been using my iphone 16gb more than 7 months now... left back only 7 gb + only.. because i had installed a lot games and applications .
but don't have any movie and not much songs in my iphone tongue.gif

if the price not much different i strongly suggest u get 16gb as 8gb could not be upgrade to 16gb anymore. and provided you can afford to buy 16gb one.

Same here. 7 pages of apps, a couple GBs of musicsand 1 GB of photos, there's still 3GB left. More than enough for me. Its up to your needs in the end.

I would go for a lower capacity if given a choice. I can't even use up 2GB on my previous N95 for 2 years of ownership. It depends on yourself but I don't download lots of movies/music so storage isn't a concern for me most of the time.

Applications doesn't take that much of space compared to songs/movies/photos. Besides, I always remove things I don't need (to make it clean) so at the end of the day, I still don't use lots of space smile.gif Currently I've used only 700MB but we'll see how it goes biggrin.gif

got for 16GB only if u're the type who will listen to lotsa songs & watch movies/music videos on your iPhone. most of the space of 8GB are occupied with movies & music. keep them there to just listen/watch when i'm bored. i'm still left with 900++ MB, with 2 full movies, 5 music videos, 150 songs & few pages of apps. smile.gif

Well, even with songs, 8GB is still a pretty nice capacity. The only space killer are movies, and for most ppl, moves are something that you swap in and out, instead of keeping them in the device forever

you are quite wrong dude...

for my case 90% of my capacity was installed with applications and games , a lot of my games are 60-80MB and above for each game or application... i already mentioned in my earlier post , my iphone only games and applications , around 500mb songs , no movie ... 16gb left 7gb ++ only...

therefore 8gb definitely not enough for me tongue.gif

I will join in the fray.

Like everyone here who has contributed, it is strictly our own opinions. Your key words here are..'u can afford...' If so, go for 16gb as there is never too much of a good thing and you never know when you will need the extra byte. Who knows? After 'playing' with your iPhone for a while, you want more apps, movies, songs and what nots and that is the time you may regret not deciding on a 16gb. iPhone is a powerful tool and you just might need the extra juice once you get what it can do.

I bought myself the 16GB one and i must say that it is still not enough space for my needs. Photos+Videos+Music+Application= FULL. Hopefully apple will make a 32GB one.

No, you're totally wrong instead smile.gif Why?

1. My point is strictly related to how I use my phone and not yours or anyone else.
2. Purpose of TS raising this thread is to find out people's opinion on whether what is their preference and are there any regrets for users which bought 8GB instead of 16GB (which in my case no regrets).
3. I know some people likes to install all sorts of games, songs and movie. These are all personal preference but for me, I will play my PSP or Wii or PC if I want to game. I only keep a few simple games for amusement on the phone, that's about it.
4. How many applications do we install on the phone? Well, this is another subjective point. Some people enjoy installing all sorts of stuffs but I don't because I can't use all of them. If a person only uses less than 10 applications in a PC, I don't understand how he/she can utilize 30-40 applications on the phone but ok, that's his/her choice.

Lastly, I don't understand why are you correcting me because everyone uses their phone differently rolleyes.gif

Depends on individual needs. Bear in mind, the available space for 8gb for storage and applications are 7.1gb only, the rest occupied by the OS. If you're a lite to medium multimedia user, go for 8gb, else 16gb will be a good buy, not to mention the White casing is cool.

I am using 8gb now, I have less than 10 albums, some free AppStore games and picture album, I have about 6gb++ left. Have yet to load in movies which I think will take about 3gb, so I have 3gb to spare, it's not too bad then for 8gb.

Well, granted that it is indeed possible to bulk out with that much with just applications and games alone, once again its as per my statement earlier in regards to movies.

How many of such applications is really in use, and not just sitting there taking up space? I kinda maxed out the screens on my iPod Touch with all sorts of junk that I hardly ever use, and navigation's a big pain. On the iPhone, I kept it down to just a few pages by only putting in the apps/games that I want to carry with me all the time. Makes it easier to hunt for things too.

yeah man... gotta agree with you.. not everyone enjoy playing iphone games like i do... some will prefer play on big screen like XBOX 360 or PS3 etc...

like i said before , if the price is not much different i would really suggest TS get 16gb , as 8gb couldn't slot in memory cards anymore, and provided TS afford to buy 16gb .

What so funny about that? I have a 16GB and I'm already cramped up for space!

If you've underutilised your iPhone , then that statement you have quoted before would make you feel funny, but I dare say a lot of us have used our iPhones more than just "making calls and listening to songs". Apps, music videos, podcasts, clips/movies, emails, SMSes, notes......, these chomps up valuable storage space.

So I ask again, WHAT SO FUNNY?

it annoys the heck out of me, that i have to keep deleting items each time that i have to sychronise my iPhone.

hence for the next generation of iPhone, i'm definitely getting the maximum capacity feasible. no more contemplating about saving that few hundred bucks for the sake of it.

anyway update for OS 3.0 (since the second beta is out), you can now have 11 pages of applications on the springboard (instead of the usual 9).

and if you include the bottom 4 icons, you can have a total of 180 apps!!! blink.gif blink.gif blink.gif

(i will also be including this piece of information in the "OS3.0 + "Next-gen" iPhone Speculations" thread)

Well, the 16gb has the advantage of coming in white.

But like most of the sifu's here, I don't regret getting the 8gb over the 16gb. Honestly, the only thing that takes up tons of storage space is video. I'm at 500megs for mp3's, 1.5 gigs for apps, that's still 6 gigs of space for video, more than enough cos you won't have enough battery to play all 6 gigs on the road anyway.

I'm a iPhone 2g - 8g user for almost 1-1/2 yrs now. 1 have 5 pgs of apps + 1 pg of games + 14 full-length albums + 500++ photos and about 1000 contacts in my phone now and I still have more than 4g of free space to go.... And trust me, of all the apps that I have, I consistantly use less than 10 of them. Do I need a 16g? Not at the moment. Do you need one? Well, you judge it yourself.... There's no better as it's just the space difference. Like many forumers advice, if your budget is tight, get a 8gb one. But if you have extra budget, go for a 16gb.

But again, it all depends on what you wanna do with your phone.

Do you only make phone calls and text from your phone?
Or do you play games?
Or it's the Wifi feature that you're looking for in an iPhone.
Or because you want it for its iPod feature?

If it's only the phone, text and Wifi feature that you are looking for, 8gb will be more than enough.
But if you're more to the gamer side, a 16gb will be more advisable.

I got myself a 16gb one because I really make full use of my phone.

As a portfolio for my photography jobs, music, videos and games to keep me entertain while waiting for client.

user posted image

So bottom line is you'll have to decide what you wanna do with your phone. From there you'll know the answer of which to get.

well, if you plan to put wikipedia (via wikitouch) inside your iphone, 16G is mandatory.

I installed and it takes 5G+. So 8G is definitely never enoughhhh

Uh ok I posted a few weeks ago that 8gb was enough for me ... now I'm not so sure.

I've started putting up a lot of TV shows to watch on the road on my iPhone and video takes up a LOT of space. Just got a few chris rock specials and half a season of Chuck and already the 8gb is used up ... sad.gif

I guess I'll be thinking like you as well if I didn't have an iPod Touch 16GB as well. That's what I load up with movies and stuff for longer trips, and its always in my bag anyways.

at first planning to get iphone 3g 8gig, due to budget constraint...

but at last just found that only 16 gig got stock, but because i really really want one, so i just bought it

now?? happy as ever!! at first i thought iphone is really difficult to use as need to jailbreak, unlocked, apps need to buy from app store, but after playing around, hey it's just so easy as peanut, just spend some of your time to play around and u will able to make full use of iphone smile.gif

You can have 30-40 apps/games and it does not affect the batt unless they are constantly used. Some users play games and drain their batt in a day(as some charge their iPhone twice a day) while some only launch apps needed and still have 2-3 days of batt usage. Current longest usage is 2 days 17hrs with 9 percent batt left.

The fact is, we don't even use up to 10-15 apps on the PC so I've no idea how people could use up to 40-60 on an iPhone smile.gif For me, I'll just keep things I use and remove all others.

Actually you can turn it off (it'll automatically switch to Edge) but when you want to download your mails, surf the net, etc then have 3G on. Having 3G all the time really drains off the battery life sad.gif

But I thought as long as its not transmitting or transfer data, having 3G on will not really affect battery life? I know about the near far phenomenon though (2G will always be more power efficient). Actually I had the phone connected on 3G with just 1-2 bars of reception and I have been receiving and dialing a couple of calls including sms, my battery is still full (according to indicator). Or maybe its not accurate?

It doesn't behave that way apparently. Even on my old N95, having 3G turned on would drain more battery. What you can do is full charge the phone, on the first time turn on 3G whole day to see how long it last and the next time, turn it off.

I've tried it out and having 3G on would make me charge my phone every night without fail or I would run out of battery the next day smile.gif

I think you're right. I'll give that a try. I know on the iPhone 3G connecting to WIFI for surfing, chatting and FB-ing would drain the battery at a faster rate.

Ya, i face the same situation as his mention. It will quite drain my battery when i keep on my 3G. I have been do some testing on my iphone and i find out if i turn off the 3G service, the battery life (after the full charge) will stand for at lease 2days even i always use the iphone for listen music or make the call.

Personally for me, the only reason I would need the extra capacity is for my Itunes collection.. Unfortunately, since the largest capacity is only 16gb, that wasn't enough for my entire song collection so i am happy with my 8gb and it just means i have to be more selective with my songs.

In terms of apps i only really play bejeweled 2 on it so i guess i don't really need the space.

Do you actually listen to all 16gb of songs though o_o

I only have a few hundred megs of music on my iphone. My entire collection in my PC is like 40 gigs (been collecting since the days of dialup, aha), but 90+% of them I don't listen anymore so I never bothered putting it on my phone.

Actually no i don't - but it's more like 17 gigs of songs that i've ripped from the CDs I own. I just like the idea of carrying my entire CD collection with me smile.gif

A 32gig Iphone would be perfect for me if it existed tongue.gif

But 8gb is good enough for now.

Susceptibility to scratches is not reliant on colour. But it is more obvious if it is black. Of course, the phone being dirty depends on how one takes care of the unit and what protection he/she has on it.

If I get the 16gb, I will go for white too until I read this:

http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php...ht=iPhone+Crack

Pls check yrs if you hv this problem.

But if you can afford 16gb, go for it as I've got only 2.5G left now out of my 8gb with lotsa albums and only 2 movies.

Lol, my thread was closed by MOD due to repetitive, Lets continue here:

Tinkerbell recommend me to buy a black IP 3G instead of White one.

But it din solve the problem rite? just the crack less noticable...

I kinda like WHITE IP 3G though... is there any solution?

For Maxis IP 3G, are they still offering the defected IP3G that suffers housing cracks?

I going to purchase one from Apple Premium Reseller this friday, please advise me on this issue.

Thank you.

What's there to worry..i own a 3G iPhone White and i don't even have a single hairline crack. If you are worried about getting hairline cracks on the iPhone, both black and white are made with the same material and they will have the same results.

Again, if you're paranoid, get black. Simple solution. If you're going for White, then just go get it and be happy on your purchase. There's always warranty if anything goes wrong with Apple resellers or via Maxis.

Of course you can dude. They provide 1 year warranty and you can send it back to them for an exchange. When your warranty expires, we have hardware gurus to help in this forum. So no worries mate. Relax. Just go get your 3G iPhone White and be happy. Don't go crazily insane with those news.

You can ask Stringfellow as he owns a 3G iPhone White and i don't see him complaining. His iPhone is still in pristine condition. Also, there's 86 forumers with 3G iPhone White: http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/97633 I don't hear complains from them.

Go get yourself a good casing too for extra protection for your new 3G iPhone.

I think it depends on how you use your iphone, some ppl will take good care and some dont, when one does not take care of their phone i.e. sitting on it, compress it in the pocket, dropping it, or rough handling it, i think what phone you buy will end up having damages at the end.

If this cracking issue is a well known "flaw" or "defect", I am sure Apple would have already recalled the 1st batch from July 08 to be replaced or repaired, but till now no such recall has been announced by Apple, so I take it as the users own problem in handling the iphone that causes such cracks.

BTW, I am using white iphone and have absolutely no complains or cracking either. Am one satisfied and happy iphone user.

I not yet OWN an IP 3G before... but for common sense wise, white IP hairline crack look more apparent if compare with black IP, thus giving an advantage to earlier one-to-one exchange with APR.

I now waiting incoming Friday for my WHITE 16GB iphone... and going for moshi ipouch... RM2500 + 105... there goes my RM2.6k...

hi guys... i own an iphone 3g from maxis bout 2 months old now...and ive been taking really good care of it.. protecting it in a belkin pouch. Its the white 3g and it appears to have really small cracks like people has complain about. The service card is still with me ..just not sure if maxis will do a 1 to 1 warranty though. Can anyone help me out with this? Im very sure I've never dropped the phone before! The cracks are smiliar to what others have posted on the net..like near the bezel and earphone port

I have to say that I was a really proud user of iphone 3g until today! When I saw my iphone under the sunlight appearing to have hairline cracks...Not Scratches! Cracks!! It really pissed me off as I have never dropped the phone before..its protected in a belkin pouch. Got it from maxis and I think ill be heading to maxis centre to clarify this problem sigh!..its a white 16gb though! Really pain to see my iphone in this state

why don't you call maxis first and ask them whether there are warranty or not for this problem? This crack is physical and most of the time it is not covered under warranty. This is considered wear and tear problems. Maybe you check with them and see they willing to replace for you or not. Instead of wasting time going down all the way to them.

The cracks have been reported over the internet since its launch. Quite a lot of review documented on the crack problem. I think this is due to the plastic quality (expansion and contraction).

Another problem I noticed is the screen color temperature. Mine is a bit warm/reddish while I have seen iPhone 3G with cool screen and seem to have better contrast. By the way, I have 3 friends who uses the iPhone 3G (not from Maxis) and all of them (including mine) have somewhat different screen color!

different batch of fones from different regions might have different batch of LCDs from different vendors.... but then, if yr using the unit alone (not comparing to others), u can't feel the difference...

Usually at the sides where the casing is tapered. A sign that the casing shell is too thin when molded. After some use and compression (when inside pockets, etc), fatigue will show and you get micro cracks. I saw the pictures over the net and the cracks are really disturbing. When you run your nails over them, you can definitely feel them although they are still smooth.

if you're using 8gb then you will have to be more hardworking in removing old movies from your iphone as that is what takes most of your space

Knowing Maxis with the iPhone, they will always find a way to avoid replacing your item. This comes from personal experience.

Yes, thanks to flash memory chip. Even the 32GB in 3GS doesn't show much difference, it's all pretty much the same.

i highly doubt you'll even download that many apps, nor will you fully utilize the Video's and Music.

I wonder what is the maximum amount of 'windows' you can have on the homescreen in case we do have a lot of apps and games installed.
