I heard that average broadband speed in Japan is 50Mbps or higher because they all use ethernet and fiber to the house.
for the same price we're paying slow.. streamyx which we're getting 1.5Mbps only. Is that correct?
For most of the part yes. We do get FTTH (fiber-to-the-home) but usually this is only up to the building itself. After that it's distributed via VDSL which is still using normal telephone line. (Contrary to the normal perception that we get an Ethernet cable or Fiber optics cable directly into the comp). That's the physical connection part. for the same price we're paying slow.. streamyx which we're getting 1.5Mbps only. Is that correct?
As for speed, it'll depends on the plan and varies between 12Mbps (lowest ADSL plan) right up to 1Gbps (Hikari ONE by KDDI).
Currently, I'm on a 100Mbps FTTH and I pay a monthly fee of 4200 JPY. Gotta love Japan for its Internet speed and no hanky panky stuffs like throttling.

Ahhh... same thing happened to me last year! I went there around 5-6pm and the place was so super packed. Ended up in a spot where I can only see part of the fireworks. This post has been edited by PsyCHZZZ: Jul 26 2009, 10:33 PM
