QUOTE(tatsuyachiba @ Oct 23 2009, 02:35 AM)
Wedding in Japan fun but a little susah. You have to give an "envelope gift" of at least 30,000yen. Like angpow but you must get crisp fresh notes and put it into a special envelope (you buy this at a stationery store). The envelope is a 2-piece affair and the inner piece has to be folded correctly.

Then after the ceremony itself, there is a "second party" or reception, usually in the evening, called the nijikai. You have to pay to get into this party too around 5000yen for the booze. If you're a close friend, you may have to give a speech. If you do, never never say the words "dekichatta keikon?" smile.gif

The fun part of weddings is that you get drunk, get to hit on the bride's single girlfriends and you get a goodie bag of gifts in return.

Enjoy.

QUOTE(nasizwan @ Oct 27 2009, 06:50 PM)
hi guys, i'll be going to tokyo alone to meet someone in dec29th09 until 9thjan10  rclxm9.gif . will fly with ANA air. not really sure whether thats a good airline but ive already bought the ticket thru travelocity.com. I will be staying around harajuku. Anyhow, i have few curiosities and questions that i need to know before i go there. hope you guys can give some advice.  icon_question.gif

unsure.gif
*
1. visa application - do i really need balance of 6k in my account to apply for visa? cause at the moment i only have 2k but my 3 mths account statement provide info that i have 15k going in and out of my account. am i qualified or not? sweat.gif
By hook or by crook MUST have RM6k in your account huhuhu..

2. i know its gonna be winter during my visit so im thinking of buying one winter cloth here and buy the rest over there. how much approximately winter cloth there cost? i wanna look updated! tongue.gif
here you can buy cheaper even at flea market too...if you talk about fesyen then the money is not an excuse then huhuhu..so your choice

3. i am thinking to bring ranging 3-4k for the trip (depends on how much i can save). is that enough? accommodation + food + transport = provided. half of meal cost will be borne by me tho.
for me, may be its fine for RM3k-4k (assume 10,000yen = RM400) so it would be +-60,000~80,000yen I think ok kot..but not fo shopping lor
4. where do you guys always hang out? maybe i can drop by to meet you guys.
Hang out? like me not really with Musha or Phsyczz or else bcoz 'japan life' too busy ahaks...yeah no prob if we can skip the time or may be let us know...

5. ive made some research about places to go but i wanna keep my options open so please let me know where to go.
The best make an itinerary at least... thats the best management..plan A plan B and Plan C, you wont regret one hehehe

IMO only may be other frenz would like to suggest something...
so welcome to Japan.

there are hotel cheaper...with ensuite bathroom for two, i.e
koiwa sky court hotel - but a little out of town.
oak hotel : JPY7500 - from instantworldbooking

but i've yet to found any hotel (not ryokan/b&b/dormitories) with JPY6000 for two pax.

i'm thinking of going to Japan for 2-4 days snowboarding trip
i found from a website 3 days ski tour in hakuba ( include shinkansen, lift tickets & accomodation) cost JPY 40,000
5 days ski tour hokaido in furano cost JPY 70000
are the tours cheaper than self-plan snowboarding trip?
how much 2-3 days lift tickets usually cost?
*
oh ya...would like to highlight...make sure no hidden cost ya...sometimes you need to rent so many 'thingy' huhu..

QUOTE(tatsuyachiba @ Nov 6 2009, 05:15 AM)
Depends on on the ski slope (called "gerende" in Japanese) you are going to and how much skiing you are planning to do.
Most gerende have pricing for an entire day or just part of the day. Typically, night skiing is the cheapest i.e. starting at 5pm onwards.
Lift tickets are also priced based on "all access" or just certain slopes. Unless you want to ski on the "black" (i.e. steepest) slopes, maybe you can buy a cheaper ticket that limits you to just the green or red slopes. Finally weekdays are cheaper than weekends/holidays.

On our annual ski trips, we usually go to Echigo Yuzawa in Niigata.. Around an hour's shinkansen ride from Tokyo.
Relatively cheap - lift ticket's, IIRC, are around 3000-4000yen but we usually book a package that includes shinkansen, hotel + food, rentals, and lessons for the kids.
