Getting Started

Hi guys,
I just recently bought the Western Digital HD Media Player. I have downloaded a video that requires Digital Audio as stated on the TV Screen while playing. However, there was no audio output from the movie, only visual output.
My configuration is a HDMI Cable from the player to TV. Audio cables from the player to my Yamaha home theather (the right and left jacks) for surround output.
Any solutions will be great. Thanks in advance.

Thanks in advance. If I'm not mistaken, those L/R jacks do not provide (or get processed) by the DTS processor in the Yamaha. What you need are the optical cables to connect to the AVR. Check the rear of your WDTV and AVR to see if there is any Digital optical means of connecting

thats why need optical cable...the signal will be process by the AVR (that if the AVR supports DTS) Normal L/R cannot provide DTS signals... But take note...there are some DTS bit rates from movies that are not supported...even though it is DTS.. For that you'll need a software converter: http://www.videohelp.com/tools/PopCorn_MKV_AudioConverter

QUOTE(rx330 @ Apr 3 2009, 02:49 PM) azbro, how can the dts still not be supported? even though it is dts? can elaborate? Sorry, bro..I'm not technically incline...I've 'a few' movies that are DTS...most play with sound..and a few no sound at all...I'm using 'digital in' cables connected to a Home Theater System. I know its DTS cause the HTS show 'DTS' on the display. But if I play using PC...have sound. After conversion, the sound is there. So, I really dunno what going on...maybe its the bit rate thinggy. So far out of 10 DTS movies..sure got 2~3 no sound.

Yeah.,,,should be the case, unless your AVR also has a HDMI slot and can decode its sound, the it will be: wdtv live ----->hdmi cable ----->AVR-------->hdmi cable ----->LCDTV

if you cannot hear a dts sound, yup, most probably because of the bitrate thingy.. the person who rip or encode the movie doesn't use standard bitrate value like everyone else.. that means, you/we have to redownload from other source/group.
