 Exercise Bicycle for RM299, Are they a good buy?

Guys,

I'm actually looking for an exercise bike for home use from carrefour, giant, tescoetc...

Just wanna know, are these bikes a good buy? For the price, i don't expect that it can do wonders for me. But at least it can do something.

Depending on what and where you buy, you may/may not get your bike serviced. It's a good idea to check out the shop where you buy it from, preferably one who also services gyms around.

RM299 is pretty cheap for a bike though.

yeah...maybe you should sign up 3 month gym package to try it out to see whether you like gym-ing, to see whether you like to do cycling as your cardio, and whether you have the self dicispline to hang on there.....in the gym....or with your stationary bike at home.

RM299 can only buy u the normal exercise bike with the wind up timer.

not those digital type which can calculate the amount calories lost

Let me give a shot lesson about human psychology that I learned 3 years ago and have seen this pattern among trainees.

Humans work better with a solid, achievable goal. Means they have to believe and see this goal being possible to achieve.

That way they will work towards that goal.
However, after a while, when routine sets in, it's hard to maintain this motivation. That's why we need a change.

If you buy the bicycle with an intention of losing weight, without considering that the environment will get boring.....yeah you get the picture.

danger is if you think 'i'll use it wan...i'll watch tv and do it, i can do it IN MY OWN TIME, in my own COMFORT'...well, normally it comes down to you thinking 'aiya tomorrow la..tired today. the bike is there and it wont go anywhere. the bed looks....zzzzz' then it collects dust.
it comes down to your mental strength and determination i think. dont get me wrong not everyone follow this pattern hehe.
if u pay for gym, you will try your best to go and got ppl around and more social etc etc.

I was thinking of getting one too but the hypermarket put it up high so you can't test it out. Comparatively Kettler's ones are over 1k. I have not shopped around at other fitness stores but think cheapest is RM500-600.

It's up to you whether you will workout or not. When I used to have a bike at home it's my favorite workout equipment. It's better to do interval training and you can just do it for 15 - 20 min for solid workout.

sorry to let you down ... but cheap exercise bike often breaks down easily ..

but if you want to make your bicycle to run statically .. you can get some addon like this .... it's called Indoor Bicycle

However, i would still prefer a stationery exercise home bike.

Actually i prefer jogging but i only get back pretty late. Some more my legs are in terrible shape.

I've bought a bike from Carrefour. Quality is not very good but suitable for normal 1-2 hrs daily cycling activity (max). It is totally not suitable for hardcore cardio.

Now it is sleeping at home as I really find it difficult to cycle even for 30 minutes continuously at home (with a lot of interference, same old environment etc). But it is not difficult. It is just a matter setting up your mind. Once upon a time I've used my exercise bike to reduce 20KG until by bike broke down (old bike bought from Carrefour. Broke down due to hardcore use)

I dislike these exercise bikes. They are not as effective as jogging if ur intention is to burn fats. Use the Rm299 get a skipping rope and some hand and leg weights and run ur way to fitness is the best choice. smile.gif

The suggestion of real bike is not realistic. He already states that he likes jogging but can't because he come home late. So it is the same issue with real biking.

A major factor about getting a real bike is that our Malaysian roads (and drivers) are not made for cyclists (or pedestrians).

but dumbells or a treadmill. exercise bike has got to be the most boring cardio ever, all you do is move ur legs, quite the boring man, if u can get an elliptical for that price, go for it, though probably wouldnt last long at that price, so i would suggest that you buy a skipping rope, weights, some cardio dvds, sometin like billy blanks or p90x ftw.

get a magnetic bike ,one that is programmable. i have one (bought from carefour too a long time ago). programs mean it adjusts the resistances via magnet to stimulate terrain.

Actually honestly, for men and women who are interested in keeping fit at home without the fuss of using weight training, I still find three things the best.

1. A punching bag.
2. A skipping rope.
3. A simple adjustable dumbbell.

I've used this on a few men that looked like a mix of Michelin man and a hippo and in about 3 months, they lost a lot of fat. Good shit.

I second that.

I was in Holland a couple of years ago and they have good road planning for bikers. There's bicycle lanes on both sides of the road and so many people cycled. There were rows and rows of bicycles and you would never find a fat Dutchman.

Was very nice to cycle around without having to worry about getting hit.

Thanks for the idea.

1. I like punching bag. But i'm renting a house and the owner is not fond of me hanging those bags.
2. I tried skipping but my left knee suffered from a football injury. skipping is very painful for me.
3. dumbells? I have 2 sets already.

My focus is mainly on stamina, endurance and the ability to run to the office on time. muahahahah.

If you guise know how Bodypump is, just get a short bar with plates. Do that for 1 hour daily, is enough to kill you. It's even more effective than machines. But you will cry (for newbie). laugh.gif

Sometimes we special request, we tell the instructor we wanna do shoulder, bicep or tricep, she/he will demonstrate.

i have exp with this rm299 x-bike from giant supermarket...
it sucks... the riding position is not correct...

i am an avid mountain biker...i dont have time (due to work) so i train indoor...

i buy this

week days= bike clamp to this minoura trainer...
week ends= take it off and ride the real hills

minoura trainer M50R (mine 2009 model) is around RM480....the RDA version is around RM700+
