Personally owned three of SoundMAGIC IEM -- PL30, PL20 and PL11 biggrin.gif But most of the time using PL20 for my jogging and workup cos of it's better isolation and wearing comfort than PL30 smile.gif

PL30 and PL20 tonal wise ... sound quality wise is almost the same with PL30 offer slightly airier and wider soundstage presentation. While PL11 offer me some bass kick when I needed some drive during my jogging biggrin.gif Between these 3 IEM, PL11's after burn in improvement kinda the most, I usually experience these kind of positive reward with bass oriented IEM biggrin.gif

IMHO SoundMAGIC kinda provide the best bang for buck value and decent sound quality under RM100 smile.gif Experience it yourself ...

What about other says about SoundMAGIC?

ClieOS - headfi's famous IEM review writer.  Comments on PL20 - SOURCE

Variation: N/A
Transducer: Single 9mm Dynamic
Spec: 12Ω (@1kHz) | 20Hz~ 22kHz | 94dB SPL
Cord Style: Ч-cord, 1.20m.
Mini Jack Style: {┃} style, light build.
Eartips Used: Bi-flange

Physical Properties:
┣ Packaging: ★★★☆
┣ Accessories: ★★★☆
┣ Build Quality: ★★★
┣ Isolation: ★★★
┣ Microphonics: ★★★★
┣ Comfort: ★★★★★
┗ Quick Sum: Unlike its bigger brother PL30, PL20 comes in a more inconspicuous package. Most of the accessories in the PL30 are in here as well,
but there is no hard case. Instead you get a soft pouch. Build quality is typical of SoundMAGIC - decent but care will be needed to last.
PL20's isolation is better than PL30, which is no surprising since PL20's design is more conventional.
What is unexpected is how the very little microphonics the cable has.

Sound Quality:
┣ Treble: ★★★
┣ Mid: ★★★
┣ Bass: ★★☆
┣ Soundstage: ▆ ▄ ▂ ▂ ▂ ▄ ▆ [Good / Average]
┣ ABF: [Low]
┣ Overall SQ: [ 2.4 / 5]
┗ Quick Sum: The overall sound signature is balanced with a little bit of warmness, good on treble and mid but bass light. Not as airy / spacious as PL30's presentation
but acceptable soundstage.

Overall Value: [ 4.3 / 5] - US$13~18 (price depends on dealer)
Final Remark: PL20 is by all means not a bad IEM for its price. It is a little step down on SQ in comparison to PL30. However, its (still) decent SQ,
cheaper price and better fit / isolation make it a good inexpensive back up. For those who wish to know, PL20 also pair quite well with FiiO E3 but
there is the suggestion of very faint hiss when silence.

Soundmagic PL20 received in good condition. Thank you.

First impression: comfortable to wear at default eartip size. Should I change to double flange? Any good reason to use double flange?

And one question, there are 2 very thick black color earpiece, what is the use?

Sounds good, up to my expectation, less bass than EP630 but much more detail and overall better listening experience. Burning now....

Thank you.

Agree that PL20 isolation is great. Hear almost nothing on heavy rainy days with only soft music playing. Burn in approaching 30 hours.

Details are good and vocals are sweeter now. Great product at affordable price. Never had an amp to try, but I appreciate what it is offering on its own.

first impression on PL20....
Sounded quite good freshly taken out from the box. This unit doesn't have the harsh treble-mid found on Bijou.

Clarity is there, very detailed on the instruments separation.
Bass, not disappointing as well.

am amazed how good this thing can be on 1st try.... might prefer this to Bijou.  tongue.gif

will be burning in for a bit and then update again soon.  cool.gif

BEFORE BURN IN
I got these today. BOO is all I can say. First they have the J cord. Boo
I put them into my clip and where is the super bass. Boo there is none at all.
They have no sound stage. Boo. Now I know these were only 10.00 but they are not worth even that.
I then put on my moded PL-30 and wow lots of bass with a large sound stage for only 10.00 more. They should call the PL-30 super bass.
LOL. Sorry folks but the PL-11 are loseres big time and I hope the other 10.00 PLs are way better but I have a feeling they are not.
You just cant go wrong with the PL-30 even for 50.00 but 29.00 at head direct.
One good thing though. they come with lots of tips and a clip with a cord winder and nice bag.
The tips have a bi-flange that is bigger than the ones that came with the PL-30 and I am useing them on my PL-30.
I am burning the PL-11 in for a good 50 hours for some strange reason. lol

AFTER BURN IN
OK Its been about 8 hours burn in and boy what a difference. The bass has come out by lots and there are very good highs and mids.
Now they have more bass than my PL-30 but I had to go through many different tips and found that the very small tips works best for me.
I normally use much bigger tips on my PL-30. I will give these 100 hour burn in if needed and will check on them every 8 hours.

wow, got special thread for soundmagic
haven't receive mine yet, so couldn't comment
but the price, quite cheap i must say smile.gif

--------------------
pl30, any chance to bring it?
*
SoundMAGIC's product certainly worth a dedicated thread ... Cant fault it's sound at this price range

I would bring in PL30 next time but not so soon, PL30's price is going to be around sub RM100 smile.gif IMHO I would suggest to get 1 PL20 + 1 Fiio E3 headamp + 1 diy mini-mini cable with RM100 and in the return much better sound biggrin.gif Cos I did pair my PL20 with my friend's E3 and his Canare short mini-mini cable, much better bass with PL20's decent high and mid still there

PL20 is kinda comfortable as sport IEM or bedside IEM tongue.gif

Im currently burnin the Pl30...at reaching 100h soon.biggrin.gif

Initially impression is abit dark, good soundstage and clarity.
not 'airy' enuff for me yet..

maybe it will change and maybe not? hehehe
im used to airy soudstage of HD215
*
PL30 is kinda good with slight airier presentation than PL20. Anyway you just cant compare IEM's soundstage with HD215's full size can design which make music airier ... but we just cant fault it's sound for what we paid tongue.gif

Interested to test your silver amp one day, too bad I'm not from KL, hope that get the chance to join you guys, the Stax poison is kinda strong

Oh ya, those who are getting PL11, try to burn in more, the bass not that significant enough during first impression, do try along with all eartips, get the one which could fully fit into your ear canal so you could get the full bass.

I matched my PL20 with PA2V2 for the first time last night and found that PA2V2 improved the bass in term of detail. The source was Dell AXIM. Before having the amp plugged in, the bass was there, but lacked of detail, or sounded flat.
PA2V2 was known to improve the low frequency but I found no significant difference on sound quality when pairing it with Koss KSC-75. Never thought it made significant improvement on this PL20. I'm glad that I keep the PA2V2 although I seldom use it. I'm gonna use it more smile.gif

PL20 usually synergy well with warm amp biggrin.gif Those who get PL20 can try with FIIO E3 or E5 as entry level amp, does improve the bass performance alot smile.gif

I was wondering how does PL20 perform when compared to PL30?

I understand that both of them are priced differently (with the latter priced more expensively than the first), so in theory, PL30 is supposed to be better than PL20? rclxub.gif

Just wondering if these two differ a lot as I'm looking to buy either PL20 or PL30; as PL20 is about RM60 and PL30 is about RM100 in here.

So yea, any comments or opinions are appreciated biggrin.gif

Sound quality wise PL30 being slightly airier and wider soundstage when doing critical audition, isolation and wearing comfort wise PL20 is better biggrin.gif

Variation: N/A
Transducer: Single 9mm Dynamic
Spec: 12Ω (@1kHz) | 20Hz~ 22kHz | 97+3dB SPL | 12g
Cord Style: Y-cord, 1.2m.
Mini Jack Style: {┃} style, light build.
Eartips Used: Single flange

Physical Properties:
┣ Packaging: ★★★☆
┣ Accessories: ★★★☆
┣ Build Quality: ★★★
┣ Isolation: ★★★☆
┣ Microphonics: ★★★
┣ Comfort: ★★★★★
┗ Quick Sum: Packaging and build quality is basically consistent with the other SoundMAGIC products I reviewed (decent for the price). Accessories is about the same as PL20 - eartips (3 sized), Shure olive style foam tips, shirt clip, silicone cable warp, and a soft pouch. The earpieces has better isolation than those previously reviewed SoundMAGIC's but microphonics is also more of an issue. You probably will need to use the included shirt clip.

Sound Quality:
┣ Treble: ★★☆
┣ Mid: ★★★
┣ Bass: ★★★
┣ Soundstage: ▄ ▂ ▂ ▂ ▂ ▂ ▄ [Small / Acceptable]
┣ ABF: [Low]
┣ Overall SQ: [ 2.4 / 5]
┗ Quick Sum: The overall sound signature is on the warm side with big bass. Treble is actually as good as PL20 but fine detail tend to get flooded by the bigger bass. Mid performance is also on par on PL20, but doesn't suffer the bass flooding issue. Due to the lost of fine detail, soundstage isn't as wide as PL20, but overall acceptable. In a way, you can say PL11 is bass enhanced PL20. If you want big bass, PL11 is the one for you.

Overall Value: [ 4.3 / 5] - US$13~18 (price depends on dealer)
Final Remark: Like PL20, PL11 is another very decent IEM of its price. It seems SoundMAGIC really has a strong point at making affordable good budget class IEM. You simply can't go wrong with any of its product - all you need to do is to figure out which IEM has the right sound signature you are looking for.
PL11's review, any bass lover could take this as reference biggrin.gif
