QUOTE(tarvalslain87 @ Apr 26 2010, 09:59 AM) Maybe bootcamp and parallel is two different thing? So you have to configure two time? Im not sure but I have a question... Between parallel and VMWare, which is free? As I saw parallel can be downloaded online... Need to clarify this... Both are not free. You need to pay for them .. I managed to get a download-only when macupdate did a bundle recently, 10 apps for US$49.90 including parallels 5.0 .. did a migration from VMWare back to Parallels .. I had Parallels when it was first released but migrated to VMWare and now back to Parallels. As for me, nothing much different between the two in term of performance since I don't do graphics etc. VirtualBox is however a free one from Sun/Oracle.

The last time I bought it, I believe I was using my paypal account. But looking at the latest superbundle, you're right. It requires that we have a US billing address. What you can do is, try to use any US address that you can find on the net, but pay using paypal we the hope they don't check for US issued paypal account. I don't need this bundle, so I'm skipping this.. but you can try it out.

No problem for me, if you've problem, uninstall and reinstall your vm application. VMWare 3.1.3 works great on Lion too.

QUOTE(abrak @ Jul 26 2011, 11:07 AM) why most of the people here talking about paid vm solution? how about virtualbox? i tried it yesterday on my lion mba 13" works great. Why can't we? Good that it works for you. Or probably you want to know why we're not discussing about virtualbox as an alternative of the commercial applications? Since you've started it, do let us know why we need to go for virtualbox. Probably for those who haven't bought any vmware could be persuaded to go the free one. Do share!

QUOTE(daveiam @ Sep 23 2011, 02:54 PM) here's a tip, those who are looking for discount can go here vmware discount promo codeyou can thank me later What discount? None from what I see .. for those who're interested on buying Fusion 4, use FUSION20 for discount code, it will take US$10 off the list price..

I believe the price of PD7 + Win7 should be the same as buying the Office for Mac student edition. Why going for a headache.. Btw, it comes with 3 license codes too.. Might be able to sell the two license codes to your buddies

QUOTE(dantei136 @ Oct 6 2011, 07:03 PM) Hi Guys... I just switch to mac and just installed Parallels Desktop 7 in my I5 4BG Mac specification... I wonder what is the best memory figure setting for the Win 7 ? Really appreciate you guys help... I5 4BG? Or you mean i5 4GB RAM? The most you could give Win7 is 2GB .. unless if you don't run anything else on your Mac .. probably up it to 3GB but surely don't give to the max. It is advisable to upgrade your RAM to at least 8GB if you're running VM though I was more than happy having WinXP Pro running under VMWare Fusion (1GB RAM for it) on my old end-2006 MBP (3GB RAM max) for the last 4 years This post has been edited by wiraone: Oct 6 2011, 09:51 PM

QUOTE(noobie123 @ Dec 7 2011, 05:14 PM) Hi few question here. I'm new to Mac. 1) After install windows 7 using bootcamp can I remove the windows as my MacBook Pro is running on 4Gb RAM <-- Got the answer from google. 2) As long as I don't launch the boot camp no windows 7 running on background it won't affect my RAM usage am i right? 3) Lastly is Boot camp free? I just launch Bootcamp assistant from utilities then install that's it? My only cost is the windows 7 license am I right? Just wondering if Boot Camp is free why people still buying PD7 that cost not cheap. Thanks everyone. 1) If you use bootcamp and boot up into MacOSX, Win7 code won't be executed .. hence, it doesn't affect anything on your RAM. 2) Yes, bootcamp is free and the only thing you need to pay is the win7 license. 3) We use virtualmachine (PD7 or Fusion etc) because we want to run both OSX alongside with Win7. With bootcamp, you need to reboot each time you want to use either OSX or Win7.

vmdk sounds like virtualbox probably using vmware format. Download the vmware trial and see if it has a way to import vm created from virtualbox or not. Best is to do fresh installation..

You might not have all the drivers installed, didn't remember how I did mine, but do search for bootcamp drivers and install it.

You need to install the bootcamp windows driver within windows after the installation. Read the instruction guide. Shld be the step no 4 in the following guide: http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_c...-setup_10.8.pdfThis post has been edited by wiraone: May 18 2013, 03:43 PM
