Depending on how many VMs you intend to run and the type of workloads you run on the virtual machine. Having as much RAM as possible will never hurt. It's always possible to run VMs on a 4GB machine but swapping may occur when the physical RAM is insufficient. So, do at least consider a minimum of 8GB of RAM if you intend to have the VMs running continuously on top of OSX.
