some might say KM 50mm F1.7 and SAL50F14 not much diff, but after using a week of 50m 1.7 then brought a 50mm F1.4, i only can say this, 1.4 sweet spot starts at F1.6 all the way to F4; while 1.7 starts at F2.5, which mean, u lacking of sharpness at F1.7, F1.8 F2.0. my shot was done in a control environment.
but this is my experince, maybe some other people gotten a better KM F1.7 had diff experinces.
