Mobile Safari is good enough. What more you can ask for?
if you want fast access from your home screen, just click the plus button in the middle of mobile safari and select add to Home Screen. Maybe you can propose the admins to create a webclip bookmark icon? |

my suggestion , if can make the forum for iPhone version 1. Currently is good enough , but still have banner and flash. What i wan to say is still can doing better. You see now the ESPN and other many site also develop only for iPhone users, where it will help reduce heavy load of phone resources.

well, I might be tempted to try something like this if I've got the time. But I guess the main question will be, what kinda display would you expect that's different from the web version, that'll be easy to navigate through the different forums and threads as well?

The main thing to display of course is information, but need to choose what information need to display. For iPhone app,it may cut down the user's signature(to save space, so that user no need scroll up and down in their iPhone) and the banner include flash(since iPhone cant support flash yet). If able make it 1 page have limit 10 threads, so that it won't look messy and the words is small at iPhone. This post has been edited by geo-milano: Mar 24 2009, 09:22 AM |

For iPhone app, well, for sure there's not gonna be any of the big banners, etc. but there's really no way to avoid scrolling anyways. I mean, you're talking about a 480 x 320 resolution here.it may cut down the user's signature(to save space, so that user no need scroll up and down in their iPhone) and the banner include flash(since iPhone cant support flash yet). If able make it 1 page have limit 10 threads, so that it won't look messy and the words is small at iPhone. The first thing that comes to mind is something similar to one of those news readers. and then still need to figure how to add in the ads into the app too (otherwise the big boss won't be happy |

yup, surely scrolling is can't avoid, just matter is no need to scroll so much.
Or in other way, if make App, maybe can refer to Facebook App for iPhone, for me it is more tidy and ease to read. Their App down there have tab. So that each tab can locate different thing u like , eg ads, main forum, edit profile, search etc. |

QUOTE(ldragon @ Mar 24 2009, 03:23 PM) Lo-Fi version doesn't show newly answered threads.QUOTE(Suk @ Mar 24 2009, 04:43 PM) Facebook app on iphone looks just about right. It would be nice to be able to pick out 'Favorite' threads i.e. monitored threads and view them on the main screen and then touch the '>' button to view the posts with latest post sorted to the top.As for ads, i suppose you could slide a banner up (similar to dell ad appearing on the main LYN page) and let the user either click or close the banner. QUOTE(ZipD @ Mar 25 2009, 12:58 PM) Actually yes and no.How it works is... Anybody can just go and download the SDK for free to do their development work. However the development stages goes as follows: - initial development & testing in the simulator - testing on the device(s) - pushing to the app store The free SDK can only get you as far as the 1st step. in order to proceed after that, you'll need the USD99 thingy. But those who had signed up for the USD99 thingy also gets access to the 3.0beta SDK + the 3.0 beta firmware for testing. |

i see. i thought the usd99 is for app store license fee or something like that after the app is completed. so that means in order to complete an app you need to pay the usd 99 so that u could access other functions as well la?

Yup, in order to complete an app, you'll need the Developer License for it. In fact, even before going to the stores, you'll already need to have the license in order to test your app on the device. For each app that you wish to deploy to the device (even if its for testing), you'll need to generate a certificate for it, and digitally sign your app with it. The developer license grants you access to the section of the dev portal that allows you to register your test devices, and create certificates to code sign your apps for your test device. only then you'll be able to deploy. Furthermore you'll be developing on a machine running at at least 2.x ghz, but the app will be deployed to a little device running at 400mhz. This means that the simulator runs faster than the actual device. Thus, you'll need to test on the device to ensure that performance is acceptable, and if its not, then you'll know that you'll need to optimize further. This is also why while its possible to do up the interfaces using Interface Builder, its very much recommended to actually code it by hand instead, for the extra performance gain. A lot of people new to Cocoa Touch development tend to wonder how come the sample source code in the apple developer page for the iPhone/iPod Touch seems to build the interfaces via code instead of Interface Builder. Well, its for performance reasons. Also, there's some things that you just cannot test out on the simulator, such as the accelerometer, and the microphone. |
