So, the bottom line is , if I were to get a labtop today/this week, this model is the one hands down?

Afraid I don't have time to do in-depth research in various laptop. Is this the best price/performance laptop in the market right now?

Today I actually brought RM2200 to Low Yat Plaza and hoping the sales personals there can convince me that 4730ZG is the laptop to buy right now. Some of those sales people didn't even know 4730ZG existed and some still pricing them at RM2399/RM2299 saying 'promo price'. I have to educate them somemore about 4730ZG.
Saw one sales person promoting Aspire 4530 (i think) at RM1999. AMD Turion 2.2, 3G RAM, 3 years warranty. It was listed RM2099 with 1GB and 1 year warranty. Afraid that I'll be taken a ride by those half cooked sales staff, I went home instead and do my own research. There's a few shops that offer below the RSP of RM2199 and some throw in freebies, so I'll be heading back to Low Yat this weekend, bringing along an IT friend. Added on March 26, 2009, 4:26 pm QUOTE(Sphenix @ Mar 26 2009, 03:09 PM) 1. how many USB on this laptop 1. 2 USB slot as I see it. On the left hand side.2. does the "ACER" word on the lid got light when turn on? 3. the speaker ok? does it have cracking sound when turn to max? 2. I don't recall that. 3. Didn't test. QUOTE(Mr.LKM @ Mar 26 2009, 06:16 PM) Bro, do you get the frame rate correct? Low settings with shadows turned off should perform better. I brought money to Low Yat Plaza today, but haven't bought yet. You still have chance. I'll be going back to LYP this weekend.I'm thinking to take this model to sell to LYN members? Is anyone interested? Added on March 26, 2009, 6:31 pm QUOTE(ffrulz @ Mar 26 2009, 06:25 PM) Yep, this is in-battle performance. around 3 fps boost would either mean its severely CPU bottlenecked or the game really runs terribly on Ati cards. That means the fps reads like this:I have a desktop with a 4850 and with shadows turned high would give 12fps in battles and shadows turned to low would give 75 fps or so. But this doesn't show on the notebook so I would lean towards the CPU bottle neck part. Medium settings all with Shadows to Low = 17fps Low settings with Shadows turned off = 20fps. Since the thoery now is CPU bottlenecking, do you/anyone have a software than can measure the CPU performance independent of the GPU? This post has been edited by ashburn98: Mar 26 2009, 06:31 PM |

QUOTE(rhenadal @ Apr 10 2009, 05:47 AM) The thing is, if i'm not mistaken, suppliers bear like 50% of the cost of the jusco vouchers; that's about RM 110.00. If they can sell at PC Fair price + give free stuffs + THE jusco cost of RM110, maybe u guys can squeeze more free stuff when u buy at pc fair. |

Guys, I just bought this lappy from PC fair. Is there a warranty card for this laptop, coz I searched the whole package and there isn't any card. I registered the warrranty online (acer.com.my) but it doesn't display the period of warranty.

QUOTE(PrincZe @ Apr 10 2009, 09:20 PM) Hall 1 or Hall 2. The dvd-r isn't anything significant. It's only a piece of empty dvd-r. I bought from that booth because I didn't want to waste time walking back and forth to compare best freebies offers. That's why if you plan to buy, I think you could haggle around more. |

I rather get the RM2080 with basic freebies than RM2199/RM2160 (what I paid for) with additional freebies honestly. At least I can shop for the accessories I want.
Backlight bleeding is owning me to the max. I don't know if it just me who's unlucky or it's affected all 4730ZG units. Anyone knows if Acer service centre will rectify backlight bleeding? One thing I didn't realise is I was given a Dark Blue colour model. I thought it comes as Black. I prefer Black to Dark Blue. Uninstalled most of the Acer crap & trial softwares. Haven't install games yet on this laptop nor ran benchmarking tools yet. |

QUOTE(kancilmerah @ Apr 17 2009, 03:05 AM) Hi, RM2199 with 2 freebies is all right if the alternatives will cost you even more. Get the cooler pad and see if the shop can throw in an USB hub for you. You'll need an USB hub for sure for this laptop.I noticed this model at my local IT store. I'm from besut, terengganu. It is offered at RM2199. The only freebies are just an optical mouse + cooler pad / usb thumbdrive. At first, I thought of going to buy it at Kota Bharu but then after reading all posting here. It seems that, the price is just with a slight different. So, I'm not going to waste my car fuel to travel to Kota Bharu which is an hour drive from my place. Am I making the right decision? I also wonder whether I can install Office 2003 since it is Vista. Sorry to silly question. I DON'T have experience or knowledge on Vista and because I already have Ori Office 2003. Help me here please. I'm thinking of getting it this saturday since friday is holiday here. Thanx in advance. I installed Office 2003 also, so no problems there. Will upload pics of the 'backlight bleeding' later. |

QUOTE(Maestrol @ Apr 18 2009, 09:45 PM) That's why I'm asking fellow owners if they encounter the same thing. If everyone is having the same thing, then I'll guess it's normal, if not, then I'll have to send it back.Backlight bleeding is when you put a black wallpaper and the monitor displays grayish-white colours from the monitor sides. Example of bleeding from LCD: ![]() |

QUOTE(Dothan @ Apr 19 2009, 08:50 AM) Backlight bleeding is normal for LCD because of its technology. This LCD is a TN panel, so the 'bleeding' is just whitish. If you get those expensive LCD with more colour gamut, you might see orange or reddish bleeding! |

QUOTE(Maestrol @ Apr 20 2009, 01:06 PM) Bingo. I realised this before buying this laptop. I was wondering what is the difference between C2D T6400 and Pentium Dual Core T4200. And it came out to be T4200 is a stripped down version of T6400. The FSB, Processor Frequency and Penryn core are the same, except for the L2 cache and some Intel Instruction Sets which is minimal and do not justify the price difference between these 2 processors. I'll admit I didn't go reading up to these details before getting this laptop so I'll consider it as a bonus. For more info read this One thing I did realize is the DDR2 RAM is 335Mhz @ 5.5.5.12 latency. Compared to my desktop RAM, it's feels slow. |

QUOTE(chongsmotor @ Apr 24 2009, 07:31 PM) 2.Dont even think about a RM 2199 laptop can give u a superior graphic,,,act it is just best graphic card build in for laptop below RM2500.. I am a user for 4730zg,,, I don't know how Acer phase out their laptop but I can tell you there aren't any reviews on 4730ZG when I joined this thread (before buying). So maybe Acer does phase out their laptops. Apart from my dissatisfaction with the LCD blacklight bleeding. (My desktop LCD is S-IPS panel and have some bleeding as well), it is doing well for office work. Gaming reviews you have to ask from other owners. |

QUOTE(yi7117 @ Apr 29 2009, 05:16 AM) If you are on a budget btw 2k to 2.5k for an average gaming lappy, Likewise. this model I can say is the best value for money lappy at the moment. Having asked all the available laptops brands during PC fair, this model is higher on the best value for money scale right now. Apart from the specs, it tags along with a 3 year warranty and vista premium (usually you'll get vista basic). Some Compaq models are cheaper in price but it comes with lesser spec and you'll have to install your own OS. |
