QUOTE(vat67 @ Apr 29 2009, 11:55 AM) so despite all the bad reviews on acer laptops u mean to say this model is the best they ever produced? if so, then i think i'll consider this model. BTW, i also saw this model, 4736Z with DDR3 RAM...any significant differences between DDR2 & DDR3 when using vista? Some of us are saying it is the better choice for spec/price, not saying this is the best model Acer ever produced. You have to take care of your laptops, regardless of brand. List the 4736z specs and maybe there'll be some opinions for you.

QUOTE(uhlaw @ May 7 2009, 10:34 PM) Will this processor T4200 cause the bottleneck with ATI Radeon HD3470? Edit: my mistaken. According to the Window Experience Index, the CPU scores 5.0 [mistaken it at 4.0] while ATI Radeon HD3470 scored 4.0 [mistaken at 3.0]. There's also a big lag difference between 1028x768 with 800x600 resolution while playing Last Remnant. I would say the bottleneck is at ATI HD 3470. This is my observation but I'm too lazy to install benchmarking tools. This post has been edited by ashburn98: May 10 2009, 06:18 PM

QUOTE(blackmarket @ May 9 2009, 10:05 AM) You sure the score is only 3.0? Is Last Remnant fully playable at this reso with ati 3470? BTW For those who ask whether Processor is the bottleneck to the gpu, i think they might have over-estimated the strength of ati 3470. 800x600 windowed for Last Remnant playing is no problem at all. I am playing LR on my desktop on 16*0 x 14*0 resolution windowed at max settings without lag so I can subjectively judge the lag difference. Anyways, nothing beats the results of objective benchmarking. I went to get a USB hub today at Low Yat and asked the price for 4730ZG. You can still find RM2199 with some freebies but there's significantly lesser 4730GZ display units on the laptops booths as compared to a week before PC Fair. I think Acer is phrasing this model out. Added on May 10, 2009, 6:54 pmJust want to say I mistaken the Window Experience number. CPU is 5.0, GPU is 4.0. This post has been edited by ashburn98: May 10 2009, 06:54 PM

QUOTE(yi7117 @ May 14 2009, 05:41 PM) If you broke it by yourself I don't think it will be covered by warranty. Well, how was 'broke it by yourself' defined? What happened to your friend LCD?

QUOTE(yi7117 @ May 14 2009, 09:10 PM) Try dropping it on concrete floors.. See the screen will crack or not. Alot of ways the lcd can break if you are not careful. It's more fragile than you think. If drop on concrete floor then no warranty I won't be surprised. Narvey norman selling 2099 then cheap lor.

QUOTE(rhythmjhan @ May 16 2009, 02:16 AM) I would need to do some design work, some adobe illustrator and photoshop, is this or the Acer Aspire 4530 better? In terms of the specs VS budget... There's benchmark scores for this laptop littered around this thread. Windows Experience points, for example, is on the page before this; in game FRAPS is on the first few pages. DMC4 ingame benchmarking is also in the previous few pages. =========== If you wanted to know where best to buy this laptop, please read a few pages back. You'll see this model is now phrasing off and a forumer has posted a good deal on this current page right now.

This is an entry level laptop (RM2.1K) that has better graphics, max RAM, 3 year warranty and Vista Premium over the rest in that price range, period. If you want to find fault as an excuse to not to buy, then hold on your cash for another product another time. I needed a laptop, did my homework and bought it. Apart from the 2 USB port, I know I'm getting my money's worth.
No matter what brand you buy, you'll need some luck to avoid the lemons units. The extra 2 years warranty was the selling point to me. I can't imagine forking another RM500-800 to repair a RM2.1K laptop.
Everyone will have their own motives to buy/not to buy. If you need to use a laptop now and have entry level budget, there's not much other choices to consider (at least during the time when I bought). If you don't need a laptop or has higher budget, then just look around for other choices. It is clear to me, at least.

I understand probably not everyone will go through 25 pages in this tread for answers.
1. The CPU for this laptop is actually a C2D, but with half the cache memory. It's a good starting point to do more research.
2. The ATI graphic card scores 4.1 in Window Experience (Vista). I personally feel the GPU bottlenecks my gaming experience (new games) but I know I would be asking too much from a RM2.1K lappy.

QUOTE(Beouwulf @ May 25 2009, 07:39 AM) The processor for 4730ZG is Dual Core T4200 which is the SAME chip as C2D T6400. You won't notice the performance difference. Pentium Dual Core and Core 2 Duo are just marketing terms. http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=37251http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=40479Exactly. I'm hoping those that plan to buy do some research & reading and let them figure out the bargain this laptop has to offer themselves.

Been a while since I was on this thread. Just want to say I installed Street Fighter 4 on this lappy. Did the ingame benchmark and it says "Rank E - Not capable of playing this game. You need to upgrade". Tune down the resolution and SF4 will play fine.
