Regarding choosing a guy for his potential, most guys never realise their early promise. Most will remain middle-class, only a few will make it to the ranks of upper management or the newly rich while a minority will fall down the hole cause of bad habits, illnesses and so on. So IMHO, it's better to choose someone who has already "made it" or has made so much progress that success is inevitable. It's like choosing a completed property over an under construction one
