Is this perspective valid too during the 70s and 80s? What trend is Man Utd then? Winningless trend?  laugh.gif

back in the 70s and 80s, Man Utd wasn't being marketed as a "brand" as it is now.
hence the lack of exposure.
i really applaud the move of the board of your team to market the team as a brand.
it makes sense and it gives more awareness.
happens you guys were on the winning side when it happened.

but then, with mass marketing, you will eventually get "prawn sandwichers".
because they see and relate to Man Utd as the "winning" brand and not by the history and the stories around the club.

heck ask your younger fans now why Eric Cantona is the legend amongst hardcore fans (as a liverpool supporter, i have big respect for cantona) and why now no one seems to talk about him?

i dunno, as a liverpool fan i rarely met anyone who do not know the history of the club compared to Man Utd's fan in regards of their own tradition.

good example : 99% of Man Utd fans that i know of today only know and sing the line "glory glory man utd" at an infinite amount of time while we the liverpool fans KNOW BY HEART the lyrics to "you'll never walk alone" and have more songs to sing to (ste-gerrard-gerrard, torres.. even we had songs for luis garcia) during gatherings and such.

On the issue of fans leaving before the end, I really have nothing to say. It's like you abandoning your mate when he's feeling down. I would like to think it is my responsibility to pick him back up.

hence we continue to sing and sing till the end!!
