Hi,

for those who just update to ITunes 8.1 and sync their iphone, you MIGHT see any update similar to this (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1970)

my advise: DO NOT UPDATE!

i have updated it and i have a iphone 2G.

after i have updated it and i cant browse using my EDGE anymore and worse, when i go to GENERAL -- NETWORK , there is NO MORE EDGE toggle!!

for those who (like me) who have update it.

below is my fix.


1) SSH and GO TO root, go to /USER/LIBRARY/Carrier Bundle.bundle (Note: is USER, not USR)

2) SORT the list by DATE MODIFIED. you then see the LATEST MODIFIED THAT ON TOP.

3) choose the latest and open it.

4) if you see a folder, MAXIS_my.bundle, BACKUP the folder to ur hdd 1st

5) then delete then folder.

6) cross finger, pray and reboot.

7) once reboot, you shld able to see the edge toggle RE-APPEAR under General - Network.

8) Set your APN, for maxis is : NET, Maxis and wap. (im sure you can find list APN easily)

anyone with yellowsn0w 3G updated their iTunes? iTunes update shouldn't have anything to do with iPhone right?

my iphone still works fine leh. celcom carrier lah.

it work fine with iphone 3G, think it will affect iphone 2G.

my is maxis carrier 2G iphone, dont dare to try. who has been tried?

me lo. i tried liao..got problem lo...if u havent try, dont try it..

i just check with maxis, the setting is meant for 3G...

if u have tried it (like me) then u follow guide to restore back

I updated it and used bosspref to disable EDGE/3G. the E still appears but all apps report offline mode when trying to access the interbutt

I have updated my Itunes yesterday and done a full sync. Using Iphone 3G and using Celcom D68 plan. No problems so far.

I forgot to add that mine was officially unlocked but jailbroken.

I have just update the carrier setting from iTunes just now.

The followings are my findings:
1) I cant set my APN option in the Network settings, however i still can browse with my maxis 3g data plan

2) The maxis carriers bundle that previously works, is now not working anymore Need to stick with the old icon..only can see "My..." LOL

haha same here just noticed my icon at top left is "MY ..." only too LOL

same here.... after update carrier...maxis logo no longer appear. i need to fix it!

edit: i just tried the method on first page... doesnt work... my maxis operator logo still didnt show up... hope someone can suggestion solution soon.

Had the same problem after installing the carrier update. My solution is to install APN Editing from Cydia (you will need to have a jailbroken iphone). Simple and small package that does only one thing - re-enable the carrier network/APN/EDGE settings.

Try it. Worked a treat for me!

would it solve the operator logo issue too?

zzzzz.... i don't care bout the operator logo.

is there a way to get APN back out? on windows vista. has no plan to jailbreak my phone as of yet or in the near future just yet.

data roaming is damn expensive on maxis man.

one think that i had notice after the upgrade was my 3g data connection tend to me much faster. I used to have below 100kbps in my area ALL THE TIME, surprisingly, after the upgrade my speed improved to 400++Kbps

i think u can edit the maxis logo thingy in operator logo.bundle folder.

My edge toggle was missing since early January after updating itunes. Now, the only time i see MY CELCOM is when i am about to unlock the phone but after that it just goes back to MY...

well i found out about the carrier update settings.
its basically for maxis users only. yes i'm a maxis user, updated it thinking it was some feature from apple... but apparently the carrier setting will disable Maxis's APN. and when you go into Settings > General > Network > you will not see APN anymore to disable the APN (GPRS/EDGE) hence you will be charge when you run anything over the internet when you are not Wifi in ranged.

I put in a Celcom sim card and it worked and the APN was back on.

Then i put in my maxis card again... once more its missing (bloody hell)

Then for ppl like me, that didn't want stupid GPRS/Edge charging me like crazy, I went to put in Celcom sim, let that APN to appear, and took out the celcom and put in my maxis > unlock the sim password > went to APN setting ASAP and i saw Network : Maxis || Username : WAP || Password : xxX(can't remember)

and I changed all 3 of those. hence now i don't see APN, and i can't use EDGE/GPRS.

blehh....

try to find the bundle file inside ur iphone, the setting is embed thr..delete the folder then reboot...

edge toogle will re-appear.

as for boss pref, u can on and off, but u can change the setting anymore.

Hi everyone,
I like to know why my telco carrier is showing "MYS XL" instead of "MY CELCOM" (as shown when I got the phone initially)? Plus, it is showing the blue "E" indicating EDGE. Thankfully, no data is download as I didn't subscribe to it. It's distracting, though. I wonder whether it's because I changed the settings or somehow. I try resetting all network settings but it's still happens. I try with my friend's Maxis simcard and it's showing "MAXIS". Please advise.

Also, how do I sent a SMS to a 5-digit number (e.g. 32888)? When I type 32888, it becomes "328-88" on the sender column and the message can't be sent out. Why is it so?

click write new msg, just put there 32888 lo.. mine can work without the - also..

I have no problems sending SMS to 5 digit numbers. As to the new logo, perhaps that's because there was a 'Network Update' and that changed certain configurations.

I am a little confused too because yesterday, I was at the mall [I don't think I was online!] but some how my mails checked automatically - I tried to look for the APN to disable but I could no longer find that !!! *gulps* Am wondering if I was just too tired last night but haven't had time to check it out again today.

Someone wants to tell me if theirs is missing too or I'm just missing a brain?

Ok.. I managed to get the data thingy enabled through this link (http://www.eidac.de/?p=13). The only problem is that to enable it, I need to have a new Profile Setting and I'm not on my Mac... damn!

Er.. oKies.. so what is considered a valid APN?! I'll try leaving it blank to see if it works

I didn't get to create a new profile to re enable EDGE. I deleted the profiled I installed (which will disable EDGE) and tadah it works. Don't even need to reset the phone. Gee... stewpid Maxis...but thank God I found out before my bill started accumulating !

I have a DIGI carrier logo on my iphone 3G.. And have no problem with the latest itune update..

err....noob question - does this EDGE bill charge thingy will happen to celcom user?

checked my APN setting it's all blank. will it drain my prepaid airtime?

if u leave your APN blank username blank, password blank - when you click maps/applications/stock/safari etc and it loads, EDGE/GPRS is in use. if u put something anonymous on the APN like "xxx", "nothing", then it will find that carrier setting which is "xxx", "nothing" which it memang doesn't exist and it will not charge.

To all that has "Carrier Settings" are available - are meant for maxis users only. Celcom and Digi or even UMobile will not get this settings.

My iphone3g works fine after the update. The only thing now is my 3G is not working...it still get the 3G signal, but when browsing or using any data related apps, it will switch back to EDGE...aih...problem..

For me, after the carrier update, my 3G still working fine but I don't like the "MY..." logo. Can any tell me how to restore back the call MAXIS logo?

i also mistake update it... and lost my prety maxis logo... and change back to MY MAXIS but only can see MY..

yeah. open iTunes, connect your iPhone & Shift + Update (not restore, browse for IPCC file).

Click on "Files of type" & select IPCC in the Browse window.

If you can't apply the ipcc file then just do the long and manual way. Download the file from page 1 of http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/752226 (contains 50212 and mymaxis.bundle) and copy to System/Library/Carrier Bundles thru SSH and reboot the phone.

That should cover it.

Then you have to put in the APN, username and password (where it apply) to get the service. I'm not sure what's the setting for maxis.

im doin tat rite now...
but it used 2 work without da setting

1. IPCC?
2. or ol' SSH way by copying bundles folders? (need to delete old folders?)
3. need to key in APN settings to make 3G work?

Actually bro all those steps were taken. So I dun really noe which worked. LOL.

means u updated the .ipcc file through iTunes, 3G & APN settings still not working/available?

then when you copied the carrier bundle folders from here only they worked?

i thought the .ipcc file itself is sufficient.

So, what's the APN settings for Maxis?

it's weird that eventhough i've upgraded my iTunes to 8.1 & plug in my iPhone to snyc occasionally, i wasn't asked to update the carrier settings. i applied the maxis .ipcc thing from here yesterday and still able to connect to 3G, APN settings still available & Maxis carrier logo too.

using 3G UK yellowsn0w unlocked on 2.2 by the way.

i see. but iTunes never prompt me to update. that's why i chose to update using the .ipcc file. any differences between both?

so no way they'll ask u...

if u wan itunes update. del the 50212 folder& mymaxis.bundle in /USER/Library/Carier bundle
and also at System/library/carier bundle

after del restart ur phone then plug in itunes voila.

i hav this problem and i hate it. as i accidentally upgrade my iphone using itunes and now my network carrier "My Maxis" always can't detect my network..sometime when i'm not in maxis coverage "my maxis" change to "No network" the whole day until i change my sim card to other hp and put it back to iphone and the problem solve..I don't know how to fix it..now i'm carrying extra hp incase for emergency..can somebody solve this problem..PLEASE>

what i did was... restore to factory setting using itunes. all applications, phonebook, sms, camera rolls, are all saved. mp3 and vid are the only thing u'll need to resync.

have fun. it only takes 1hour.

and remember after the restore and prompt you "Carrier Settings Update Available" CLICK CANCEL!

hey. i've been having problems on receiving coverage signal on my 3gs. i think its the carrier problem. do anyone know how to update my carrier manually? because it used to show a notification on the update but i ignored it and it didnt show up anymore since. so now i feel regret and trying to find the update back. pleaseee really need help!!!
