i always wonder what is the life of a pharmacist.... RM3.5k as fresh grad gave me an impression that its like drop-dead busy and killing and stressful job

but seeing most people has said, it's err.... like a rewarding job i guess.... i've read that pharmacist can be in hosp/retail/industrial

what is the life of a pharmacist in a hosp/retail/industrial? is it keep doing research, read patient's statistic and see which med is the best, preparing med syrup in a very meticulous method, writing report or so on? does the pharmacist do some talking or sosial like those who are doing business? TBH, i'm kinda a social-type, bubly, talkative and active girl, can be serious but when not necessary, i'm funnily-crazy all the time..... so i'm not very sure if this job suits my life.... hehe

kinda off from here, so i'm very sorry
since i'm a girl with the listed personality above, should i pursue business-type career (most probably major in management, marketing, admin & HR)
but my bro said the pay is very slow and unrewarding.....

Pharmacists don't just do paper work or lab work. A big portion of their job in hospital & retail involves counseling patients. They have to make sure the patients are getting the right medicines for their illness, make sure they're taking them the right way (ie: inhalers, if administered wrongly is as good as not taking), make sure the drugs they're taking don't interact with each other and give side effects. If you have patients with a whole list of meds and different dosages, you'd have to think of a way to help patients remember how/when to take them. And if the patient comes back saying that their medicines don't work, the pharmacists will have to troubleshoot and find out if they're taking the medicines correctly.

wow.... so its being a pharmacist is like memorizing everything? and how does pharmacy differ from chemistry? and as i know pharmacist is more into chemistry, what about biology (other than medicine blush.gif )

yea..basically memorising...and thinking as well la of course..
chemistry u study everything lor....organic..inorganic..etc..

for pharm we only touch organic chemistry...and other more subjects where chemistry don't touch like pharmacology(drug interaction) and pharmacokinetics..

a social-type, bubly, talkative and active girl, can be serious but when not necessary..still can be a pharmacist lor...
business dun suit u la..from what i've seen u type so far...

thanks for the reply !!
because my first love was actually biology, but knowing that being doc is hard..... i have to uhm, forgo it.. blush.gif
its ok to judge me haha.... but why business don't suit me? i thought business you interact everyday and make a lot of friend and know new people everyday, isn't it? esp if i'm under human resource... aiks, i'm kinda influenced by the ideology of "do what makes you happy, and you'll be stress-free"

are u sure u like biology?
as what i've said, biology has a wide range. from humans to plants to insects to reptiles to flowers to ecosystems to environment. u sure u like all of those?because doctor only study about humans.
ugly truth, i love almost every chapter in biology in the beginning.... but when is comes to plants, amphibian, insect or fish.... i'm turned off sweat.gif

studying pharmacy is expensive.... even for a loan, it might takes a great long time to clear it..... i wished to be in IMU or taylors too, but they're far from my capabilities, that explains my weird choices :sweating:

but i know pharmacist make big bucks and pharmacist is the least i'm interested on.... anyway, pharmacist is so far on my top-list... there's others and there's plenty of research i'm about to do =)

thx

and who on earth told u pharmacist make big bucks? (speaking for malaysian context)
during ur pupilage..ur pay around 3k..(for fresh grad okla consider high)..
then ur 3 years compulsory service..the most maybe 5k? 6k?
then what? if u decide to stick with the government the highest you can go is only 15k...of course there work load and stress load is small la..

if u wan to do pharmacy from my point of view is most importantly your interest and passion towards serving people. if its all about making money i suggest you look for another course. smile.gif

hi there..... i still remember your last post for me =)
upon browsing here : http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/714279
i felt that pharmacist do make big bucks.... wel, since the workload is light, what do you expect? hehe
and this is my biggest question, during pupillage do they just throw you randomly around malaysia or u can choose ur desirable state/city
just to let me finally let go.... hehe
otherwise i'm seeking into HRM or finance =x
gosh, i'm such a bimbo laugh.gif

haha....
scared to do pharmacy because maybe of the pay not good enuff =x (in a far prospect.... if 35~40 still stuck with 10k then its quite a matter =x)
but in the same time i'm scared to do business because of the workload

i heard from my bro in IBM that his dept is having "earthquake".... almost whole team resigned due to workload and only whole team only 2 people (my bro and a female team-leader).... his teamleader at first wanted to resign but once heard from the company,
1)her pay rises from 3k to 5k within a night, but she's working 24hours (sleep in dunno where, floor?)
2)she is not allowed to resign, which she want to resign now very much
3)her workload currently now has doubled, since the dept is having "earthquake"
while my bro still stuck with his 2.5k (fresh grad) and working 12hrs+

haizzz...... is that a life of a businessman? i don't think i can handle it la....
wish i'm pretty and talented.... can be artist =p

pic? eeyer, dun need la... haha

next time if i reli became a pharmacist i sure rmb u..... hehehe
see more aspect first la.... even studying pharmacy might be a challenge.... in my POV of science courses, the hardest to study is doctor>dentist>pharmacy
browsed thru alot of college and take a look of the subjects, had no idea whether its hard or easy.... is the study-skills like SPM or hell-style one hmm.gif
