gps only uses ur data connection if u activate a-gps.it helps you to lock faster and it only cost u around few cents.

and gps service is free...google maps is different case...this one will be charge.for maxis i think is 1 sen for 1kb.

totally agree with that...try ovi maps before but respond too slow make me miss junctions.
