That's because people without confidence in a severely depressed state ARE easily brought down. Thus the term fragile, which IMO applies to most who are more than moderately depressed.

Sometimes the encouragement given should be accompanied by a voice of understanding, it let's the individual know there are other's who know what he's going through.



And, a lack of goals in life doesn't really indicate a lack of commitment. It may be caused by their upbringing, lifestyle, etc. For example, alot of people have no ambitions in life because all they were thought was study, study, study, and when they finish studying, they don't know what to do and are lost.
