For normal users that do not tweak voltages, a cost-down version of the 4890 is coming.
10-20USD cheaper (260+ territory?), but probably won't fly so high on water cooling. No digital power regulation (like GTX 275) so you're back to board mods.

That's proper scaling. Aichiban's running at 850, Sniper 1Ghz.

QUOTE(Pro-MX @ Apr 12 2009, 09:05 PM) but u got to consider the amount of noise it generates..i am pretty sure OC edition will be even louder than it already is....i think should wait for gainward to come up with a goldensample version You really have used the card (or a variant with such a fan) to make such comments, ey?

500/3900 is the UVD clock.
In the Radeon BIOS editor you should see a few power states, one of them being UVD.
Change at your risk (although it's fairly safe. DONT drop the core clock/voltage too much though, just the RAM)

From what I've read in Beyond3D, Furmark is actually a "power virus" (for the ATI Radeons at least) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_virus(Furmark is NOT mallicous though) That means Furmark actually pushes your GPU to use more power than specified in the TDP, which never happens in other testing methods. So stop using Furmark since it's a misrepresentation of how stable you GC is. I'm not sure, but the ATITool Artifact scanner is a good alternative. QUOTE(ben_panced @ Apr 13 2009, 02:33 PM) hello brother, havent u heard about stress testing to check for stability, this software is like the intel burn test for the gpu, if it pass this test, meaning it will handle any games you to throw at it 24/7 without crashing IBT/OCCT/Prime95 etc are NOT power viruses. Your 95W CPU will still use less than 95W in the end if you run it rated (aka normal usage) Intel and AMD's custom programs written to test stability however WILL use more than 95W at stock. Hence they are power viruses. A stock 4870X2 uses 320W on Furmark instead of the 270W board power rated max that it's supposed to have. In all intents and purposes Furmark is a power virus. All I'm saying here is no need to get obsessed with a rather stupid tool that can actually damage your card (130C VRMs etc). Pro-MX stop trolling. QUOTE(ben_panced @ Apr 13 2009, 08:58 PM) stressing something over its limit is even better coz it'll confirm that an OC is rock solid stable and btw the digital vrm chips can handle more than 130c The VRM takes up to 150C. But at 130C you already know that thermal dissipation is struggling so temps will go up very fast. For such components I wouldn't stress it too much, as the 4890 seen through thermal imaging is actually a very cool card, 90 something Celsius for the hottest VRMs and everything else way below (275's analog regs get to 110 something on stock, something that is actually scary)

I'm tempted to pick up one at PC Fair, but I'll submit to the TechPowerUp! design contest first. One design a week to devastate the current (sucky) ones

QUOTE(metsatsu @ Apr 14 2009, 07:40 PM) bro mind to show us your design? One of 'em. I've just reused stuff I made when I was 15 so it isn't horribly impressive (but at least it's not ehh ) I haven't done the fan sticker so it looks funny for now. QUOTE(gto87 @ Apr 15 2009, 06:38 PM) Simple but nice while HIS original design is simple and extremely hideous. Your's better 100x bro. Do you do this as a part time job. If you are, I am planning to ask you to do it for my Sapphire 4890 I don't (yet), but mainly because I don't have the exact scematics for the cooler. I can send you the files (already done with the layout) for you to print. Finding someone who prints adhesive in low quantities is the biggest problem. (2nd design looks better since I made it when I was 16 )

No. All I'm gonna tell is that it's predominantly blue colored (HIS is obsessed with blue anyway) Having the logos on is a big detractor to the look, though. I'd like to make covers that have nothing (obviously not for the competition lol)

QUOTE(metsatsu @ Apr 15 2009, 10:37 PM) but hey bro, hope everythng goes well for u. maybe one day u can offer custom made cooler skin in the future and sell in garage sales Not that desperate for cash, will never be that desperate for cash I'd do it non-profit, but the design's not the hard work (making it fit on to the sticker is)

QUOTE(CyberTroop @ Apr 16 2009, 02:03 AM) Any other disadvantages at leaving 1.4v forever, other than wasting electricity $$$ Chip might grow "soft" after a few months, needing even more vGPU to run at 1Ghz. Use the lowest voltage stable for 1Ghz as recommended.

There seems to be some hotfix driver for 4890 scaling improvements in Crossfire. I just browsed through that info though, didn't grab a link.

What about this one? Is Bahlol using a high end Asus board? ATI drivers dislike mobos with severe levels of BIOS tweaking for some reason.

QUOTE(metsatsu @ Apr 18 2009, 03:12 PM) Of coz i know that. But i think for a start, the hd4890 is a bit small. Should make it slightly bigger Changing the size even by a bit throws the space harmony away. Believe me I tried bigger fonts but they couldn't work without being very distracting. Oh and Melaka's PC Fair is still not selling Radeon 4890s lol!

nah, I can use the healing brush to make them vanish the text doesn't feel that "in place" like in 1, but it's still tolerable, and better for marketing. the HD4890 typeface on 2 should have been Frutiger, forgot to change that.
