A 4th Mad Max Is On Its Way.

If you were wondering what the status or possibility was of a 4th Mad Max movie, then I have to tell you something: you are the only one wondering. Well, you and George Miller, who still wants to bring a 4th Mad Max tale to the big screen, but in a format that's quite a bit different than the previous Max movies:

“We’ll probably go a different route,” Miller told MTV News about the potential talent voicing the lead role. The plot would be partly lifted from the script of the fourth “Max” film, which was set to shoot in 2003 until financing collapsed in the wake of the Iraq War.

Nicholas Hoult Joins Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road

Nicholas Hoult (A Single Man, upcoming Clash of the Titans) has joined the cast of George Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road, while Zoe Kravitz, Adelaide Clemens and the previously-reported Teresa Palmer are also in talks to come on board.

The Hollywood Reporter says the new movie is set a short while after the story detailed in 1985's Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome which keeps Mad Max relatively young.

Hoult's character is named Nux. Kravitz, whose character's name is Five Wives, Palmer and Clemens are in a convoy being chased by bad guys.

Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy are starring in the film which Warner Bros. will start shooting in Australia this summer.

Charlize Theron 'Mad Max: Fury Road' Role Is 'A Dream Come True'

user posted image

In an excitingly odd and unexpected twist, filmmaker George Miller is returning to the universe of "Mad Max" for his upcoming sequel "Fury Road." Tom Hardy is stepping in for the title role once filled by Mel Gibson. And Charlize Theron... well... we're not really sure what her part in the story is, other than the fact that it's a lead role.

Sadly, she's not saying anything. In fact, she's convinced that Miller or one of his lackeys is spying on her to make sure that nothing is said about the film out of school. MTV's Josh Horowitz put in his most valiant effort when he spoke to her on the red carpet at the Spike Guy's Choice Awards last weekend. She's not talking though, other than to gush about how excited she is to join this much-loved franchise.

QUOTE
According to reports (with confirmation expected later this week or soon), Miller will now add an additional complexity to the films: he’ll be shooting “Fury Road” (and, one presumes, “Mad Max 5″) in 3D. This new development, along with the decision to shoot two films, says IGN, will push back the film’s start date from November of this year to sometime in February of next year. Apparently Miller has always wanted to shoot a “Mad Max” film in 3D, and thanks to the current fad, he’s going to get to live out that dream.

To add to his already hectic schedule, Miller’s got “Happy Feet 2″ and “Babe 3″ also mulling about in various stages of development.

Charlize Theron Plays A One Armed Woman In Fury Road

user posted image

There isn’t a ton of information out there on George Miller’s reboot of the “Mad Max” franchise, “Mad Max: Fury Road”. You know the big names who are going to play the major roles, and that there are going to be a ridiculous  (read: wonderful) number of automobiles destroyed onscreen. Aside from that, most of it is hearsay and conjecture at this point.

Australia’s ABC reports that 22-year-old Annabelle Williams, a Gold Coast freestyle swimmer, will serve as Charlize Theron’s stunt double in one fight scene.

Why is this significant? Because Williams is missing half of her left arm. Now you know that Charlize Theron’s character will be missing a portion of her arm as well. While that may not be earthshaking news, it is something, and in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, people are going to be missing some limbs.

QUOTE
In December last year, the producers of the yet-to-be-completed film were looking for an athletic, blonde woman with half an arm to be the stunt double for one of Hollywood’s most glamorous women.

It was a perfect match for Williams, whose left arm ends just below the elbow.

“I got a phone call from one of the people at [the production company] and they said it’s got a $200 million budget. My mum was sitting there and we were just like ‘What?’”

“Then they said that the lead actress was Charlize Theron and I nearly died.”

Williams won a bronze medal in the 2006 Commonwealth Games, and another at the 2008 Paralympics. She was checked out by a James Bond stuntman, and after receiving his blessing, Williams was shipped off to learn Muay Thai and train with an ex-member of the SAS.

Mad Max: Fury Road Delayed Again

user posted image

All of us who have been hotly anticipating George Miller’s “Mad Max: Fury Road” will have to wait a little bit longer. Miller was set to begin filming this February, but The Australian  reports that the production has been delayed. This is the second delay, as unseasonal rains in July made the area where they were going to film too fertile to handle the planned stunts.

QUOTE
Key crew were told this week not to expect to return for pre-production until August or November next year. Production is now anticipated to begin in the Broken Hill region in February 2012.

From the tone of the article, it sounds like financial restraints may be behind the postponement. While this is purely speculation, the budget for the 3D production has steadily increased over time. Whether or not that is the case, this news has hit the local economy hard, leaving hundreds unemployed.

QUOTE
The delay has left many major film crew members without work amid fears the high Australian dollar could ultimately kill the film as its budget grows.

This sucks, but for the moment “Fury Road” is still happening, though you can’t help but wonder what impact the holdup will have on the cast and crew. The fact that it has not been cancelled is heartening, but the world will have to be patient while we wait to see Tom Hardy as Max.

Why can't Mel Gibson play as Mad Max in Mad Max IV? Nobody's too old. If Stallone can do new Rocky & Rambo, Arnold can do Terminator 4, why can't Mel Gibson do Mad Max 4?

Mad Max 2 still the best. Big influence on Fist of North Star.

Not essential to watch the first one as it does not age well with time.
Road Warrior is a must watch and it's the genre defining movie.
The 3rd one only good for one half of the movie which you can skip unless you want to hear the theme song.

The idea of mad max is like a mythical figure. All these movies are just moments of his life and it's not heavily interconnect with each other in the sense of first movie leading to the second one. You can watch it as standalone.

Reviews have been good so far and some are even calling it one of the best action movies filmed in a long time. I heard the action starts right from the beginning till the end which is just what I was hoping for.

Oh what a film, what a lovely film!!

Not only that this is the best action flick of the year thus far, but also the best film of the year thus far, and it's perhaps a tie with Mad Max 2 for the number one spot in the franchise. Please don't take another 30 years to make another instalment, George!

It's not the deepest story you'll ever watch, but the vehicular mayhem basically showing the middle finger to the furious franchise. It does not need to break physics to deliver edge of the seat action. Best of all it's not the CGI videogame crap. The villain has lesser development screen time than Ultron and yet his menacing presence fully felt throughout the movie. Guess you need a 70 year old film director to show how it's done.
Don't let this be Edge of tomorrow of last year.

Just saw it. Ok la, but I wouldn't get too excited giving it 100% haha. The 1st 30 minutes was very exciting after that normal only...

The only bad thing about this movie I would say why the hell there so much screen time for ugly ducking Zoe Kravitz when there so many eye candy around. Never rated her in every movie I saw her in. Yucks!!!!

Easily better than Furious 7 & cash grabber stupid Ultron movie.
TH is a good actor but maybe a wrong choice for Max.
He failed to capture 'Max's Aura' and he uses Bane's voice.
Like everyone else said the movie should be named Mad Furiosa go watch it you will know.
Despite it's few flaws, it's the best movie of the year 2015 up to date.

Should have named the movie title to Mad Furiosa. tongue.gif

On serious note, I hate that some of the scenes was like in fast forward motion, made it look cheesy & funny but the overal action flicks were fantastic.

Storyline abit meh. But still worth to watch for 2nd time. laugh.gif

The movie is so badass. Even for someone like me who never watch the original Mad Max.

The movie looks like something straight out of a crazy japanese manga (I know Mad Max inspired a number of manga like Fist of North Star).

I love its fast paced editing the best. Coupled with the amazing soundtrack. Definitely would watch again to enjoy it on the big screen.

Manly thumb up by Max.

CARNAGE! and MAYHEM!!

THIS is the real deal! It makes FnF series looks like those Hanna-Barbera cartoons! thumbup.gif
and Micheal Bays' car chase like home videos tongue.gif

Oh man, really love the heavy metal guitar & drums score during the action scenes
a definite movie to watch in the cinema with the best speakers setup you can find.

Also a must watch on big screen in cinema, you just can't replicate those WOW effects on your tiny TV screens.

The other really admiring qualities of the movie is how they manage to establish action sequences geographically. No matter how quick were the edits, you are fully aware what is going on and can follow the flow of the crazy action without losing track.

Dang! Just found out we missed out some milk maiden story bits about the war boys. They could be the ladies who release the waterfall near the end of the movie.

Just read on reddit that the director dropped the frame rate in some of the sequence to make it snappy. Love the editing style.

QUOTE
The frame rate was also manipulated to achieve a desired effect. "Something like 50 or 60 percent of the film is not running at 24 frames a second, which is the traditional frame rate," said Seale. "It'll be running below 24 frames because George, if he couldn't understand what was happening in the shot, he slowed it down until you could. Or if it was too well understood, he'd shorten it or he'd speed it up back towards 24. His manipulation of every shot in that movie is intense."

Yeah, Max doesn't deliver lah. I think the movie can also forgone him. Furiosa alone can kick ass.

What a movie. I must say i enjoyed this immensely, more so than some of blockbusters i've seen this year. Story is a bit meh but the action sequences are amazing. Felt like it was one set piece after another. The film just didn't seem to hit the breaks at all. It was relentless.

For some weird reason, i actually dig the warboys a lot. I found em strangely cool. I love how the film spent the time to flesh out the culture and way of life. Great world building.

Tom Hardy was decent as Max but Charlize Theron oh my goodness, what a character and hero. Furiosa is perhaps the most badass female hero i've witnessed on the big screen. It got to a point where she was all i cared about in the film. Everyone else could die or whatever.

Watching it in IMAX was amazing. Even though the 3D wasn't much, it was still a lot better than Furious7 and The Avengers where the 3D was non existent. There's this part where everything gets thrown out of the screen which was really cool.

Wow...kick ass movie. Story is servicable (Tom Hardy's accent is weird), but those action scenes. Ridiculously and over the top awesome. I love the BGM truck and the flaming guitarist. I really had a good time watching this. Awesome fun.

Holy fuaaarrkk..... rclxms.gif

Watched it yesterday night, normal 2D.

The movie exceeded even my wildest expectations!

The first 10-15 min was a little weird, what with all the insane ala 'culture shock' that I was seeing. I didn't see the original Mad Max films, so the world was new to me.

Right from the get go itself I was transfixed to the action - - over the top and so damn well put together.

There are so many insane stunts in the movie that there isn't one I didn't like or was there even any action pieces to be disliked, it was just too damn good. nod.gif

After the movie, I was still so freakin pumped with adrenaline, and the one question that kept popping into my mind was how the bloody hell did they just pull that off.

It feels to me the movie used a lot of practical effects and little CGI (except perhaps the storm / the death scenes / flying bodies etc.). It is a really remarkable feat of achievement and a testament that it takes one bloody good visionary director to be able to put something like this together.

Of course, kudos to Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult and too, and the women too, total eye candy in a world stark/devoid of beauty.

With all that said, I so wish I could have popped right back into the cinema for a second viewing... but I was exhausted at the end of the work week. tongue.gif Will be watching this again soon.

Pros:
+ Insane over-the-top action sequences
+ Car chases and stunts
+ The post-apocalyptic world itself
+ Breakneck pacing from start to finish
+ The bad guys
+ The guitarist; come on now... how bloody cool was that

Cons:
- Almost none, perhaps audience need a little bit of acclimation time to embrace the world

Easily a 10/10 for me, warranting another view soon smile.gif D-Box perhaps? Hehe...

It takes a 70 year old director to show everyone exactly how an over the top action movie should be done without needing a dumb plot. And how many have you seen where both good and bad guys are equally bad ass?

That's because a scene involving those chubby girls being "milked" was cut by either the censorship board or the distributor.

just watched it few hours ago.

and

I URGE YOU TO SEE IT IN CINEMA AND EXPERIENCE THE AMOUNT OF MADNESS AND INSANITY!!! I AM DEAD SERIOUS!!!!

The plot is very very easy to understand as the scene goes by, like hot knife cut into butter, never seem sluggish for even 1 minute. In contrast, The Age of Ultron.......

No words nor sentences can describe how good the action scenes are. Big, fast paced action yet still can clearly know what is going on; very little action movie can achieve that height, include those big movie with billions USD budgets. It is like eating a very nice meal with adequate mount and knowing how good it taste with each bite.
The guitar frame thrower and the sound effect is AWESOME!!!!
The love scene and bath scene is just nice, no awkward kissing scene thumbup.gif
Furiousa is much much more badass than black widow thumbup.gif

Just watched it last night. If you haven't watched it, you should do so. I grew up watching 1980s automotive violence in the form of A-Team, Knight Rider and such. This movie doubles it to 200%. If a car can jump, a car can be buried in high speed and still send people flying high up in the air. This is almost the essence of old school car chase and destruction!!!

The story is average at best. Even a 5 year old could make sense of it. Big bad scary guy, macho hero and heroine. And ultra awesome post apocalyptic vehicles not seen again since Death Race.

Watched it again a second time in 2D after watching in IMAX 3D. There are certain parts which were made to be enjoyed in 3D. Especially at the end when the guitar and steering wheel gets thrown out of the screen in slow motion. It looked so real I can almost touch it.
You still won't miss much if you don't watch in 3D though. But watching in IMAX is a must, everything just looks bigger and clearer.

I watched it on Friday night and Saturday afternoon and surprisingly the halls weren't even half full. Guess not too many people are pumped up for this.
I was expecting it to be crowded like when Furious7 was released since people who like those kinda movies will probably also come to see this. But there wasn't even any queue during the weekend.

As much as giving all the love to George Miller, it's worth noting the studio did stand behind the problematic production and topping up budget as things got behind schedule many times over. They insist to reshoot second half of the movie after seeing the first 42 mins because of how much they believe in it.
Let's hope the movie will have legs to see through fast tracking of sequel/s. Mad Furiosa's script already brewing according to some of the candid interview.

Oh and if you watch it in IMAX, you get to see the Batman VS Superman trailer and also like a 15 minute clip from Tomorrowland which was pretty cool.

like most said...easily the best NON STOP ACTION MOVIE over the past years (not only this year). imaging a solid 2 hours filled with eyes popping mind blowing actions!

been so long since there's a movie with real stunts and not relying on special effects..

i hope this movie does well that it quickly secure a sequel..and i like furiosa more than max..so hopefully both of them will be in the sequel.

I suggest you guys watch the trilogy first.
Me a Gibson fan tongue.gif

Not really fond on the trilogy but it was ok.
For what it's worth, Gibson was one handsome Max tongue.gif

I see, I came to watch this movie without even knowing there was a previous trilogy around it.

Was kinda confused as well of all those past ghost that haunted max especially the little kid. Does the old trilogy explains it all?

Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)

Okay, I stealing a phrase from Ron Weasley by saying, THIS MOVIE IS MENTAL!!!!!!

I actually did not want to go see this.

I am NOT a fan of the original movie series.

Why?

It is just so... BLEAK!!!!

And By Jove, BLEAK it is...

Filming took place in Namib Desert, Namibia and Australia, so from a scenic point of view, it is breathtaking (believe it or not, it is difficult to make the desert look nice. You either have to film very early in the morning, or as the sun sets. Filming at noon, the desert look flat.) So needless to say it was probably tough making this movie.

Another trend is, the movie looks like it was film practical. (with several exceptions) which adds to it.

Charlize Theron is supposed to be one of the highly paid actors at this point in time and I feel, the success of this movie is partly due to her ability to sell her role.

As for her counterpart... Tom Hardy's Max Rockatansky, is a little... subdue...

After his bigger then life role Bane, it took a little while to get use to.

For the Monster Truck derby fans out there (whom I assume is the target audience for this movie). The pure vehicle carnage in this movie, with send even the most jaded amongst you to roller derby heaven...

So, did I like the movie...

I am of two minds.

On one hand, as a movie, I respect how much effort it must have took to get the movie done. The filmmakers dedication to the movie literally bleeds out of the movie.

On the other, it really is not my cup of tea (Fast and Furious anyone)

I will give this it, it is pure and unadulterated chaos... And there are people who would truly appreciate this.

My Two Sen

To those who wants a little backstory, do give this a try.

It fills the blank of the two lieutenants of Immortan Joe and the origins of Nux. It shows a little bit of the milk maidens and the reason for the wives. It's not overly preachy and long winded. Pretty good read. The next one is about Furiosa and I believed these comics are from George Miller's production notes.

It's a great movie. Raw and anyone who likes post apocalyptic movies should watch. The vehicular carnage is fantastic. I liked this more than Fast7. The wide angle shots and the shot composition is really good story abit chaotic and let's you figure out abit which I like. Doesn't spell it out for you blatantly. Good watch

Especially love the fire guitar guy. He should have been the final boss. Lol. Kidding.

Just watched it... Truly one hellava action pack full throttle adrenaline movie... thumbup.gif

Hall 1/3 full only.

My wife: what kind of a fucking movie is this? Lousy storyline, just kaboom kaboom and end... sweat.gif

The only positive she finds is the funny stuffs in the movie like the fuel spitting race, the sohai guitarist, and the funny dialogue... laugh.gif

PS: I find the visual is absolutely stunning. George Miller and team has put it a lot of effort to the movie. Kudos to them notworthy.gif

I watched it a 3rd time and brought one of my girlfriends and at the end of the movie she said that if she watched it any longer she would have fallen asleep. I felt like bitch slapping her.

Anyway.. the rating at RT is still "stuck" at 98% and fully deserves it.

Guess they dont understand Mad Max movies or post apocalyptic action with long wide shots.

I tell my friends, not for everyone as its an uncivilised and barbaric themed movie. The only rule is Survival. Strongest will survive!

Its not that simple. hanging, fire guitar, blind fold, wind gushing against your body without knowing what's infront.
haha. iinm i read somewhere that this part is quite technical as the guitarist need to play and swing around at the same time.

Just watch it for the 3rd time today but on normal screen. Still entertaining as hell but feel a bit lacking watching it on normal screen. I enjoy the 3D and IMAX so much because got some nice depth on close-up character and the rigs.

just watched it few hours ago.

100% for me

My first D-Box and it was way better than I expected. The sync between the action scenes (fighting) and the vehicular warfare was spot on. Even when the 'dead body' was thrown off the hood of the car in the end was in sync with vibration. tongue.gif

Saw it in 2D then Atmos, now planning a third viewing in 3D but the shows are fast becoming lesser.

For those who say "there is little/no story at all", read this:

http://forum.rottentomatoes.com/topic/show/1990375

QUOTE
Right, so it's a little obvious y'all don't have very much concept of what constitutes as the story here. Hollywood has your brains drained.

The story was nonverbal for a lot of it. This is the way action movies were MEANT to be. And the characters didn't sit around regurgitating the plot in clever little quips and one-liners. From the enthusiastic and fanatical Nux, who wants nothing more than to die for his savior, to the old woman who wants to replant the world, there's a little bit of story everywhere.

Take for instance, the beginning when Furiosa first takes her detour. She doesn't tell anyone. She doesn't say anything. "Detour" is all she says. Everyone is confused. They question her. But she's the boss. Yet, you CAN see it in her eyes. She keeps them forward. "Detour" she lies.

And yet, somehow, they enemies are organic. They're mindless drones. They cheer each other on to their deaths. One asks Furiosa, "What have you done? WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?" as the entire army chases after her.

And the metaphors. I mean. Did no one pick up on them? We have Religion. Immortan Joe and his fanatical followers. Giving young, aimless men a cause to die for. A place eternal in Valhalla. We have Green, the fat and gout-ridden oil lord of Gas Town. And then War, the blinded leader of the Bullet Farm at one point even screaming I AM JUSTICE as he shoots blindly into the night.

And then Nux's slow loss of faith and realization of the destruction of his life how he knows it. The slow bond and trust between Mad Max and Furiosa. Enemies, Reluctant Allies, then Comrades. All spelled out in a way that's neither condescending or cheesy.

There was a story all right. LOTS of story.

Y'all just missed it cause it wasn't spoonfed to you through incessant, forced scenes of dialogue, action one-liners, and dragged out standoffs. This is THE ULTIMATE action movie everyone has ever wanted. Main characters that shut up, do their part, while the story unfolds in the frenetic action before them. It's a game changer.

If it's still above you, don't worry. Marvel or DC will push out a pretty little pg-13 action movie for you, complete with funny lines and long scenes of dialogue contrived best they can to spell every damn thing out for you so that way, god forbid, you actually have to THINK for once in your movie going life.

notworthy.gif

Hollywood has braindrained us all. Here comes Miller and its a game changer. For the first time in a long time, no spoon feeding on story.

Watching this for the third time this weekend icon_rolleyes.gif

just watched this movie on cinema
and some funny sh*t happened when i watch it
on my right there's a group of girls
and on my left got one couple

before the film started...
i can hear both of this groups talks about how exciting they are
and can't wait to see this film
which sometimes can be a bit annoying hearing them keep on talking on talking which might effect my concentration biggrin.gif

AND while and after the first scene of 'madness'
both of this group seems so stunt and so silent
total silent....even the whole cinema was silent
i can only hear my voice laughing and cheering

BUT this two group only start making noise
when it comes to Tom Hardy(Max) involvement in the madness actions
which is for me not in so much intense as the 1st scene of this film madness actions

so my conclusion is if you guys plan to see this movie just
because you want to see Tom Hardy in action
you might be disappointed laugh.gif

For those who say "there is little/no story at all", read this:

Hollywood has braindrained us all. Here comes Miller and its a game changer. For the first time in a long time, no spoon feeding on story.

Watching this for the third time this weekend  icon_rolleyes.gif

IMO she was the best part of the movie. movie should have been called The Glorious Furiosa instead. she kicks ass, fires a mean shot and doing all this as an OKU. Charlize is one of those actresses with beauty + acting talents. wub.gif

Mad Max like side character only. he mumbles too sometimes which is something i just can't stand.

Well. If you look into the previous Mad Max movies. It always like that. The story is being told from another person story that somehow Mad Max is involves in. It's great to see the continuity of that.

Better late than never... always wanted it and finally arrived.

The foreward by George Miller was beautiful, he said something along the lines of 'wanting the movie to resonate long after you leave the cinema'.

Interestingly, the earliest sketches/storyboard of the going off-the-trail sequence of the war rig + war boys seen in the movie was done in 1999!

The big question; will there be an Oscar nomination or two? hmm.gif That would be insanely good. A recognition for the immense work and care Miller and his ppl put into this film is more than enough.

A win though - super unlikely.

Anya Taylor-Joy Being Considered for George Miller’s Furiosa Spin-Off

QUOTE
It’s been five years since Mad Max: Fury Road exploded at the box office and Oscars. After years of development and legal issues in the way of a spin-off focused on Charlize Theron’s Furiosa, it appears progress may finally be underway as director George Miller is reportedly eyeing Anya Taylor-Joy (The New Mutants) for a role in the film, according to Variety.

With many studios struggling with development and release slates due to the global coronavirus pandemic, most executives and filmmakers are reportedly not expecting things to get back to normal for several weeks, but some are taking video and phone meetings in the hopes of greenlighting new projects in the next 12 months. Miller is one of those directors meeting with stars, namely Taylor-Joy, for his long-awaited Furiosa spin-off, which he hopes to enter production on next year, taking auditions via Skype and phone calls.
