Hi guys ...

I've got this news under the iPhone section .. but thought of creating a new thread here for ipod touch users ... if mod thinks it's unnecessary then sorry i'll close this .. First of all just to share some links :

iGPS360 add-on module for the iPhone and iPod touch is now available for order

GPS voice navigation for iPod Touch 1G & 2G - Youtube

Wondering if anyone tried it with iPod touch 2G ? I'm personally having an iPod touch 2G ... NO jb or anything ... if anyone tested this and it works ... i'll definately jb tongue.gif

I'm a newbie when it comes to GPS .. tried reading some info in the iphone section and also the handphone section but still blur ... Juz need to know when moving in the car ( routing ) we need to pay or not ? Like need 3G / GPRS connection .. if no need then how does the satellite knows our current position and guide us to the destination ?

I've been to shops and ask about mobile phone GPS .. they all have different stuff .. like samsung phones need to pay like 300 every year for software ... then nokia maps need to pay for the voice or something like that .. really confusing .. then mostly needs to be connected to 3G for routing ( which cost a bomb i think? ) ... I'm hoping this hardware coupled with our ipod touch can get free routing ... then it's good news !!

Ok, we have a dongle. But how about the software ? Is it as good as garmin ? Or using plain old google map ?

For anyone who use GPS before, you know that only listen to the voice will get you nowhere...you need to look at the map...

So if i use this device, i basically have a "garmin like phone with me"

i dont need to use the 3G to search for maps?
i cant just type in where i wanna go and the device will take me there??

Guys, I've bought this item from Orange Gadgets for 107 USD (75USD + 32USD shipping with insurance). Shipping price kills me but I guess u get a Bluetooth GPS receiver around the same price here. I'll update this thread when it arrives here (maybe this week).

PS : Anyone thinking of buying this item, better hurry. Only 200 units left (as of 24th March). Otherwise google "igpsd".

Added on April 1, 2009, 11:16 amAs promised, my mini-review:

I got it yesterday after 6 days from US  smile.gif It fits into Ipod/Iphone dock connector like below:

Take note that the module may not be compatible with some casing. I have to buy a new casing because of this  sad.gif

Plugging in the module for the first time, it took 1-2 minutes to get my location. After that, I'm getting consistent signal. Tested driving from my office to home with XGPS route. Works very well. Didn't test the voice instruction as my radio unit doesn't have aux in. Once inside home, I lose GPS signal within 2 minutes, which is normal. Get it outside my home, it acquires my location in 5 second. As a bonus, XGPS also works as an accurate speedometer. Now I know my car speedometer is 10% slower  smile.gif

XGPS uses Google Maps for maps & directions. You can download maps offline from http://xgps.xwaves.net/ XGPS requires Internet connection for directions/routes. Fortunately u can download your routes before driving (eg from home/CC/office etc), and save it for future traveling. So don't worry, it works well in Ipod if u know how to use it.

Checking in Google Earth shows that accuracy is about +- 3 meter. Comparable to any other GPS unit, and I believe much better than IPhone 3G's built-in GPS.
