what is the best balance transfer plan at the moment?

my debt is 6k. i'm intending to apply ambank cc and use their balance transfer plan at 8.99% for 24months. the plus feature that i'm eligible to get free stuff sony ericsson w660i hp.

another plan is from public bank. 5% rate for 24months.

any other plan that worth to consider?
thanks
*
Do be aware that AMBank impose a 24 months lockup period should you take up the balance transfer plan. If you opt for early settlement then the bank will impose a RM 100 fee.

I'm not sure about Public Bank's T&C for early settlement. Whatever it is ... always read the T&C carefully. There is always a catch. blink.gif

any advice which one to get?  I plan to to get Maybank Petronas Visa or Citibank Clear card.... any comment/suggestion??
*
The answer would be depending on what you want. Citibank Clear is a lifestyle card ... if you like to shop & party, can consider this card and the annual fees are applicable. MBB Petronas VISA best for Petronas petrol and free for life ... take your pick tongue.gif

Woah, interest with 5% Petrol Cash rebate biggrin.gif

Don't be surprise, there is another product (I have mentioned it in V6) which gives 7% rebate for petrol purchases. It is a debit card product so I won't discuss it here.

Maybe you have to call standard chartered to inform them before you go for travel,
I have no problems with my card when I was in Bangkok.
But I had call them regarding I will go Thailand during when to when. smile.gif
*
That is exactly my practice. biggrin.gif Actually, you should do this for all your cards when you travel - you don't want to be stuck in a foreign country with no way to pay your bills.

But according to this url,http://www.standardchartered.com.my/cb/deposit/pump-and-save/index.html , the 7% rebate promotion ended 31/12/2008, start jan i stop using this card to pump fuel, not sure promotion still on or not. Wanna try pump 1 time see whether promotion still on or not.
*
That's the eSaver card. Saadiq card promotion was actually printed on a brochure, information not available online. You can call up SCB and find out yourself - don't forget to mention Saadiq Debit card.

Now let's get back to credit card, debit card info is in another thread.

You can arrange payment to AMEX via M2U. That makes using the card convenient to pay I guess.

Yes it is true you won't get any point or cash rebate when pay bills by using Public Bank Credit Card through PBeBank.com. I do that a couple of time last year.
*
Alternatively, you can use your Citibank's credit card / Online banking to pay for your utility bills. It is a very funny system coz if you only have a savings/current account with them, you can't use the bill payment facility.

And yes, you will get points for your credit card by paying bills online.

Good to Alliance Bank cc in payonline, but TNB is not in there. Are the payments through online considered as retail purchases?
*
Yes ... I used them myself. The only downside to payonline is its limited payee and UOB hasn'e been growing their payee list aggresively despite being around for years. (I think around 7-8 years if I'm not mistaken)

For MBF WMC and RHB visa infinite, wanted to apply but they only available by invitation. I dun think they open for normal application rite?
If they open for application, sure will apply.
Just the PBB, @#$%$#@^&*$%^!
*
For RHB Visa Infinite, you need to be their Priority Banking member and have a total deposit of about RM500K. I used to ask and RM200K deposit only entitles you to a complimentary Gold card and a Platinum RM350K - if I remember it correctly.

BTW ... RHB cc CS are very crappy. Maybe for the sake of collecting the card I'll make the effort but to use their CC ? No way man!

One more thing, HSBC CS called me to counteroffer as I wanted to cancel their card. They gave me an unconditional 5 years annual fee waiver ! (I think someone here also got this offer) I'm usually not a fan of keeping cards which I don't use ... so I'm still pondering whether to keep the card or still cancel it. Any opinions ?

I dont know if this info is outdated, but a few years ago, I heard RHB would accept basic as low as RM1200. if you have other pending loan like car loan, then its different story.

lowest in the market I think.
*
Don't think so. This is more like a myth / urban legand. For many years (I think circa 2000), BNM has set the minimum qualification for cc application to be RM18k per annum - turns out to be RM1.5K per month.

Came back from MATTA fair today with an information. In case, anyone wanting to apply for the Worldcard from CIMB/DA using their existing cc, you will need as preexisting credit limit

- 100K for CIMB WorldCard (I think RockIron Reventon mentioned this before)
- 80K for DirectAccess WorldCard

Not me, it's brother Reventon that mentioned.
Yup,to apply CIMB WMC,existing cc with CL at least 80k-100k are needed.
Or might pledge using Amex plat charge card.
*
Opps ... made that correction. My highest limit is still a fair bit to go before hitting the min 80k. Well, just need to work harder to achieve it but with the economic crisis - it is going to take a bit longer to get my increment the next round.

i think 40k is sufficient for Scb visa infinite. The income requirement is 150k, it's same with Hsbc plat visa.
*
It is actually RM60k to try for VISA infinite. I know coz my own limit exceed 40K and it is still not enough to go for SCB VISA infinite.

Why not u apply an Amex gold charge card and keep big spending on it.
They will offer u to upgrde to Amex plat charge card if they track ur spending record, then I think u will be able to apply any cc in the market with it by pledge application.
*
Thanks for the suggestion but I'm very comfortable with SCB & Alliance Bank's (upcoming) rebate based cards (they also give me access to the Premium Lounge @ KLIA & LCCT) at the moment. Making a shift to AMEX Gold and hoping to get the Amex Plat is a long shot. Let me think about it ... once my Aliiance & SIA's AMEX arrive then make further analysis on my next strategy.

I would like to ask,I do apply online the credit card application at Public Bank online, after apply they ask me to fax the document,is that possible that I bring all my support document to any of thei PB branch to proced? Please advice notworthy.gif
*
What the bank will do if you do that is that they will send the docs to the CC application processing center. If you fax the docs, then it will go directly to the CC application processing center.

One of the reasons I don't use the so called online application coz there's a manual element involved when it comes to the documents. I'd rather look for roadshow and apply although it probably will take longer. If the bank want my business they have to work for it, not me doing all their work for them.

If you are looking for good cash back card for petrol, the is 1 debit card which offer 7% rebate. also until 30th June 2009. Since it is debit card I won't discuss further here. Look in debit card thread or look at my signature.
*
I know what card you are talking about coz I have it too. Don't forget to mention the 5% rebate across all supermarkets/hypermarts until 30th June 2009. Won't talk about it further here but I'll advise the guys here to look beyond the box and not be fooled just because some cc is giving 0.5-5% rebates. Again, those rebates are conditional and limited - the card we are talking about give petrol rebates for all petrol providers and across multiple hypermarts. Beat that !

P/S I get approached by RHB agents many times and when they promote their travel card, I just show them mine. Immediately they back off coz they know they lose hands down.

@Shinichi,
Thus far, when card's cancelled and all outstanding amount paid off, the bank will not bill u for the annual fees.

Speaking of which, I just received my HSBC bill - with annual fees waived; no wonder I didn't get their call - their CS was suppose to call me to confirm the cancellation of my Gold card but muahHAhahahah i guess they decided to waive the annual fees for me instead smile.gif
*
Not really true coz there's one exception. Most cc will bill you for the annual fees when they are due. Means if your card's anniversary is March 2009, you will see the annual fee charge either on March 2009 or April's 2009 bill. Except for AMEX based charge cards (not sure about the credit card version but to be safe just assume they follow the same formula) which they bill you 45 days in advance before your card's anniversary.

I used to be a "collector" myself and I understand the bank's annual fee charging pattern after having need to deal with them year-on-year.

tinky ... congrats on getting your HSBC's annual fee waived!

@hye,
No biggie on the HSBC AF waiver - I did have real intentions of cancelling the card; don't use it plus I'm carrying the HSBC Premier CC with me now smile.gif
*
Same here. Originally I wanted to cancel my HSBC but the AF waiver was too good to pass on. I would have stood firm on my decision to cancel it had they just waive it for 1 year.

I had the Premier b4 as well. I didn't find anything special about it so I got out of the club. It didn't help that the HSBC Premier card was no more than a souped up Platinum despite having the "World" word on the card. (My RM didn't even know what the "World" word means) I might as well target something like Infinite or the Worldcard series ... the fact that lots of ppl hold Platinum nowadays (thanks to bank lowering their Platinum cc entry req), this card type lost its exclusivity.

And so I temporarily shifted to cards which give out the best cash rebates. Makes more sense from a personal economic point of view.

Congrats to everyone who got themselves an iPod and watches. I won something too but not what you guys won! (Will keep that a secret)

hi guys, wanna ask bout DA statement...what is the meaning of balance in the statement?is it the total amount of credit that can be used before reach the limit or the credit that we hv used so far? thx for ur all help smile.gif
*
Balance should be your total debt. (You should be aware of your own debt, don't you think so?) Credit limit is stated as credit limit / credit line / line of credit.
