I believe there are one or two heatpipes missing on the 55nm and has less copper in the heatsink. That being said, people are making too much out of it, both the 65nm and the 55nm heatsinks work just fine and run about the same temps. The fact that a smaller die size runs the same temp is a bad thing. It should be cooler and more efficient.

the micro suttering does happen on Ati dual-cores card ? like HD4870X2 ?
mind to tell ?  blush.gif

Depends on games. Microstuttering almost doesn't exist for games above 70fps.
Most monitors comes with a refresh rate of 60 or 70Hz, meaning u would need 70 or 80fps to eliminate microstuttering

Uninstall the current driver. Remove any remaining files/registry using Driver Cleaner Pro.
Reinstall driver and see how.

Changing stock cooler means voiding warranty?
*
Depends on brand. Some brands allow users to change the cooler i.e. Gigabyte, Asus
Gainward/Palit don't allow, look at the warranty stickers at the back of their cards. doh.gif

3rd party coolers look promising but i've read that some still claim stock reference is better since it exhaust hot air out of the case instead. btw im refering to the dual slot nvidia reference cooler. can anyone share their experience on this? let's say, like gtx285 reference cooler compared to the AC accelero extreme 280? thankyou thankyou!

I grab this chart from AceCombat for gtx280. AFAIK gtx280 and gtx285 use the same stock cooler.
But in this case, we just wanna see the improvement over stock cooler.

Single-PCB GeForce GTX 295 in the Works

Traditionally, NVIDIA designs dual-GPU accelerators with two PCBs holding a GPU system each. With the GeForce GTX 295 and its competitive pricing, NVIDIA found itself in a difficult position, as it faces direct competition from ATI with its now competitively priced Radeon HD 4870 X2. On the one hand, escalating manufacturing costs due to extreme competition with the sub-$300 graphics card market, is making it difficult for NVIDIA to keep up with GTX 295 stocks, on the other its repercussions that include bad press and losses due to not being able to keep up with demand, have pushed NVIDIA to rethink a way to make the GeForce GTX 295.

Enter innovation. The company is reportedly redesigning the GeForce GTX 295, this time on a single PCB design, which ATI has been using for its dual-GPU accelerators. Both GPU systems of the GTX 295 will be placed on a single PCB. This is expected to significantly bring down manufacturing costs, allowing the company to keep up with demands and competitive pricing. Expreview sourced the drawings of one of the prototypes, which shows a long single PCB card, with a central fan. You will also observe that there is a back-plate in place. It shows that a number of memory chips will be populated on the back, and both GPU systems on the front. It will be an engineering challenge, to populate five major heat-producing components (two G200b GPUs, two NVIO2 processors, and one BR-03 bridge chip), 28 GDDR3 memory chips, and the VRM area to power it all. The new redesigned card may surface internally in April, and may enter production by May.

Finally gotten my Geforce GTX285 modified with Artic Cooling Extreme Cooler.

It stays idle @ 39c to 40c. Can't believe it is actually cooler than my old Geforce 8800GT modified with Zalman VF900 running at full speed all the time.

Idle temp is nothing. What about at load and under stress?

aiks i go buy gigabyte one so ex lol should get others manufacturers's GPU

Gigabyte, Asus, and Zotac are more expensive cos their warranty periods are longer. hmm.gif
Palit is making OEM for other brands, hence it's cheaper. But the red board is really looked ugly for some.

My Zotac gtx285 AMP! died today.
Less than 1 week of usage. Two gtx200 series gc died recently.
Dunno what to say liao...

List of gc died on me.
Gigabyte 8800GT - took 5 months for RMA (record), actual usage 7days
Gigabyte GTX280 - still under RMA, nearly 2 months liao, actual usage 5days
Zotac GTX285 AMP!- RIP today, actual usage 5days
doh.gif

Ironically, ATI has never failed me.
Powercolor 4850 - 3months then sell
Gainward 4870GS - 4months then sell
Asus 4870x2 Tri-fan - 2months til now
