Wow, GTX280 failure rate is very high.

Nuts, I just got GTX285 too. Hopefully my card doesn't fail as I don't intend to do any overclocking until the games I play start to lag.

Hi all,

Is there any methods / programs to permanent set my fan speed to 100% all the time?

Short of taking the wire out and plugging into the PSU. (I can't do this because the fan connector is different from the usual one)

Also, if I use the normal Nvidia control panel, the fan speed seems to revert back to 40% everytime I restart my PC.

*Please note that I am using the Nvidia Geforce GTX285.

Thank you.

Thanks for offering this advice.

I doubt I can do this without endangering my cooler because I am not familiar with it as well. Plus I won't have that much time to do this during the weekends.

I will use the Rivatuner once I am at home which would be around 9 to 9:30 pm.

I have tried running 100% fanspeed earlier this morning and it was still silent enough plus the idle temperature was about 34-36 celsius compared to 38 celsuis running @ 40% fanspeed.

I have tried running the fan 100% all the time for my Geforce GTX285 with Artic Cooling Accelero Extreme.

While playing GTA4, the temperature was like 45c-46c during load.

When idle, the temperature was about 34-36c.

Even at full speed, the sound of my air purifier exceeds this .

Definitely a highly recommended cooler.

@ raynmay,

Nice third party cooler for the GTX260, I hope they have a similar cooler for the GTX285.

I like running my GPUs cooler with 3rd party coolers.

How much is Manli's Geforce GTX285 by the way?

Are they significantly cheaper than the rest of the brands?

Don't really mind the ugly artwork because I'll probably change to a 3rd party cooler anyways.

@ Mastersz man

Is that for the Galaxy Geforce GTX285 as well?

If so, I may get one to SLI with my current card.

Hopefully the introduction of Geforce GTX275 has caused the price of Geforce GTX285 to reduce significantly.

Keep on hoping but this will never come true coz GTX275 isn't better than the GTX285.... It is sandwiched between GTX260 and GTX285.... Unless GTX275 is more powerful then different story but sadly that's not the case...
*
Market price isn't solely dependent on how fast the speed of the card is.

Although they should sell it by the recommended price, they also could charge slightly different premium or discounts.

There are also other factors such as foreign exchange rate, demand and supply and so on, seller's inventories.

Yes, I also agree on this perception but NVIDIA won't screw themselves up by lowering down prices for their single GPU king card.... Unless they hav a better option than the GTX285, then the prices will slowly decline....
*
True, lowering down the prices for that card will reduce the margin they could have been making for it. Would be interesting to see how the demand for GTX 275 or GTX 285 pans out.

Also, it is interesting that many brands (for Nvidia cards) are actually integrating 3rd party coolers for the Geforce GTX260 instead of the Geforce GTX285 more rapidly.

I change mine every 1-2 years. Have been using Nvidia since a long time ago.

I will only add another card in 6-12 months time when the price of a Geforce GTX285 drops significantly below RM1k.

I have only tried the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro series.

I switched from Zotac Geforce 8800GT to Palit GTX285 earlier this year.

Had to replace the GPU cooler with 3rd party coolers, didn't really like the stock coolers.

switched from 8600gt to gtx285 too  tongue.gif  was looking for your particular 3rd party cooler and seems like there's only one in malaysia. the gpu is blocking and heating up my case airflow. making my northbridge and southbridge and proc temp goes very high, especially during gaming, my whole room is affected and feels like sauna. btw bro kianweic, have you tried out the latest nvidia driver? does the ambient occlusion work for you? it doesnt work for me tho.
*
Nah, I have yet to try the new drivers. Been busy working and working out.

I usually play games on the weekend.

Earlier today, I managed to replace my Zalman GPU cooler with Xigmatek Battle Axe for my dad's Zotac Geforce 8800GT.

Check it out in the Xigmatek thread.

My post with regards to Xigmatek BattleAxe GPU cooler

currently the only available 3rd party cooler for gtx series (except 295) is the ac accelero xtreme gtx oni.and its not cheap + quite huge oso

According to Lingloong (who sold me the Xigmatek BattleAxe cooler), the Xigmatek BattleAxe cooler he is selling can fit on the GTX260 and GTX280/GTX285. However, it takes up more than 2 slots.

So there are two choices, either Xigmatek Battleaxe or Artic Cooling Tri-fan. I am pretty sure Artic Cooling performs significantly better but it is very rare and the fans cannot be replaced if something goes wrong.

For me, I buy 3rd party coolers because I usually cannot stand the heat and the noise (ie. high speed) generated from stock cooling. Anything that runs above 60c starts to annoy me.

@abkhalil818

I am using that cooler and it is very good. Silent and runs the card below 52c for load.

Search for Monsh in the Garagesale under Display cards or Full System.

He is selling it.

why spend another dollar when the cooler it came with is more than enough to cool it down.sure its noisy if u crank up the fan but that's a hell lot better than forking out another cent for a new cooler.
*
For me because I dislike having my room heat up and I dislike having noisy fan while playing as these would distract me from playing games, watching movies and so on.

If I was back in Australia, I probably won't change the cooler, in fact I will run it at the lowest speed during winter to heat up the room. Cheaper than running a heater.
