yup...
if you are using PS to colour, i suggest you add one more layer, set to "multiply". and colour it on top.

BTW, how multiply effect bring?

and... do you know how to do the shade and lighting? I want to learn...

Actually if your picture resolution is bigger I want to trace it using pen tool rather than using magic wand...

Last time I use pen tool to trace and got something like this... but shame I don't know lighting and shading... shadowing...

"multiply" is kinda like overlay a layer there, suitable to colour lineart.

I'm still surprised this hasnt been brought up in the thread.

As much as I look at K-ON's manipulation of moe, I have to admit that it was done tastefully, masterfully, and yes, passionately. If K-ON sells very well, it's not just because its moe - it's moe done right. If you compare the anime production to the original manga, you'll quickly realise that the manga is nowhere near as moe as the TV series, and clearly this is the result of KyoAni's dedication and passion to make it really, REALLY moe.

No matter how much I might look down upon K-ON's substance (or lack thereof), I tip my hat off to the studio. Congratulations, Kyoto Animation. Truly, you have become the masters of your craft. I believe that many other studios can learn from KyoAni's adaptation of an otherwise droll and pointless 4-koma manga and apply to their own shows.

And not just showing bullet-time tits and steam-covered panchira all the fckin time.

(which also happens to be similarly boring as K-ON).

I did check out the manga.
The character design is a little bit not moe...
So the character design was touched up when they give life to these girls.
Good producer as I say...
