My tube now when lock the phone manually (using the slide key on the side) the screen color stays on instead of turning dark... If let it idle and lock itself it turns dark properly..

Mysterious... Looks like its back to the NCC for Round 4!

Hi guys,

This is regarding my 4th visit to NCC.

I called Nokia Careline again, they put me through to a supervisor, who called the Nokia Center telling them I'm coming.. then at the Nokia Center (Amcorp Mall again because they give better service then the Sunway one), the manager attended me again and managed to fix the phone.. they said it was a problem with the sensor and some ribbon and they changed it all. It took about 2 hours to fix.

The manager also informed me v20 is officially out for Malaysia since a few days ago (since Monday I'm assuming, if it was a few day ago) and she proceeded to upgrade my phone to v20. I asked her whats the difference, she said the one before was meant for a different region.

Anyway, it looks exactly the same as the v20 that I had when it was first released in Malaysia few weeks ago before it was pulled out, I'll put the details here so that v20 users can compare and confirm its the same.

Version : v20.0.012
Version Date : 26-01-2009
Custom Version : 20.0.012.C02.01
Custom Version Date : 26-01-2009
Type : RM-356

Maybe this one preserves the language settings because there were reports before that after upgrading some users lost support for chinese language etc, right?

So looks like no more need to use Phoenix, Nemesis, JAF or any other 3rd party flasher. Wait for it to appear in NSU / FOTA or bring your phone to NCC and get it upgraded there if you cant wait! (dont forget to backup things first, even though it has User Data Preservation, somehow NCC wiped out my whole phone, lucky I got backups)

Cheers!

Maybe that was the confusion she mentioned.. they were accidentally pushing out EURO / EMEA firmware out on NSU in Malaysia, and they pulled it out.. Maybe this one is the correct APAC version? I dunno.. no straight answers from Nokia anyway

hei guys ..which NCC should i got to OneU or klcc one.. i wan to get back my phone on da day itself.. hardware problem

and when i call someone, i'll get this, "note:active diverts".. how to i get rid of this.. i mean to off it.. it's really annoying
*
I have the same thing too when I'm using Digi. When I'm using Maxis and Celcom, its not there. I believe it's a Digi feature - my Digi has Divert capability even though I do not activate it. I dont think it's a phone problem..

Wow... very impressive tube, u all haf there.

I'm also interested in joining u tubians... smile.gif But before i buy.. any word of advice?
1) Any serious defect / complains..on the phone's functionality?

- I visited NCC 4 times for my phone problems, maybe I'm the only person with bad luck here, but so far NCC managed to fix em all.

2) Is the tube's GPS function easy to use and whether the GPS function is usable in other countries?

- You can download maps using the Nokia Map Loader and it has maps for almost all countries in the world. I have used it up until Sabah and Perak, and a lot of the map is not updated / outdated.. it shows I'm driving in the middle of the sea in Sabah!! Google Maps, which is a freeware you can install in the Tube, gives more accurate positioning I believe. Garmin works on Tube as well, please check the First Page.

3) Is the tube using solely integrated GPS or A-GPS? i check the specs does not mention A-GPS. Does that mean the GPS is not so powerful when using in covered city area?

- It has both.. if "covered city area" means in Buildings and Parking lots, the signal is weak but that should be same with all GPS devices.. if outside, works fine in KL, PJ almost anywhere I go.

4) Does it haf dual sim slot?

- Negative

How compatible OVI suite with MsOffice program..any pro & cons?
Is the OVI suite editable.. or read only?
*
Er.. OVI is not for opening/editing Office programs/documents..
It's just a rebranded version of Nokia PC Suite.

sorry to hear that, guess you got to visit your NCC friends again...

If you want DIY first, try reset / format etc first to rule out software issue. If still cannot, or got no time, just send to NCC. I recommend Amcorp, be firm and request for a fast resolution, and normally they can solve within a few hours.. Can go yamcha at the McD at 3rd floor first.. biggrin.gif

Ok now I transferred a video to the phone and i get sound but no video.  The other day when i plugged in my phone in mass storage mode, it said must scan and fix so i clicked that.  Maybe that messed it up.  What do you think?

Warranty card say your memory card is just covered for 90 days.. so if you suspect memory card faulty, fast fast go exchange!!!!

There's a DOSBox emulator which can run Win 3.1 and Win 95 on Symbian (N95, N82, etc)

Anyone tried on 5800? Will be awesome if can run, even if only Win 3.1

Lol the processor in Tube is struggling to survive with Symbian alone.. putting Win3.1 or Win9x on top of it.. I wonder if it'll explode.. LOL..
Even without additional Windows its already lagging sometimes.. I feel like upgrading the 128MB SDRAM to 4GB DDR2 thumbup.gif rclxm9.gif

Ok I put in the memory card, and it reinstalled everything, now the video does not work.  So i guess i have to uninstall the apps one by one now.  It has to be an app problem right?
*
Logically, looks like its an app.. try doing elimination process!

tried downloading the quickoffice software but I cant install it
keep getting "expired certificate"
anyone knows how to install this or can recommend another software for viewing doc and pdf files?
*
I managed to install quickoffice but it doesnt seem to support touch screen and very hard to browse through the pages etc.. not so nice.. maybe have to wait for new version to come out? mine is an ooold version 2007 one i think..

pdf I use the free Adobe Reader provided by nokia for E71.. bit tricky to navigate also because cant scroll with touchscreen, have to use the adobe menu to go next page or resize view etc, but as I need it to view urgent documents only like travel itinerary etc its okay lah..

If anybody got better suggestions for a Tube compatible pdf / doc viewer, please share!

Guys and gals, I have noticed that I intermittently have trouble trying to lock/unlock my phone singlehandedly while holding it in my left hand (i.e. using index or middle finger of left hand to move the slider from behind the phone).

I have 5 other people in the office using the same phone model, and all their sliders activate/move really smoothly.

I am just wondering if I should bring my phone to a Nokia Service Centre for this.

Since its under warranty, any problem just go there lor.. we deserve to get a fully non-defective product, no matter how small the defect may look like..

Update :

Attached here is the version I use, its a freeware given by Nokia (Supposedly for E series, but can install and use on Tube also).

Attached File  Adobe_Reader_Nokia_Eseries.zip ( 1.6mb ) Number of downloads: 70

Alternate download link :
http://www.nokia-asia.com/A4416085?url=htt...kia_Eseries.sis

Please note you will have to click Accept to agree to Nokia license terms as per the URL above to use this software. Thank you.

once you switched to touch device...it's hard for you to go back to normal phone..it's quite frustrating...

i bought N79 last night as a back up to my nokia 5800 which i have sent for repair and i'm not sure when i will get it..
*
Where did u send the tube.. mine was sent for 2 almost major repairs, and they were able to do both within 2 hours each time.. first was change of motherboard - which changes my product code etc all together like new, then second time change of what they call as "sensor and ribbon" because my slide keylock switch not working.. sent to NCC Amcorp Mall 10th floor (in PJ)

And now I'm probably having a new problem as well, whenever using the built in loudspeaker for calls, all my friends complain very hard to hear.. tried with 4-5 ppl all say the same.. I remembered it was crystal clear before changing the motherboard because they were complimenting "your voice sounds so clear on the new phone".. rclxub.gif
