Yeah, but cashless cards are considerably more expensive if u want comprehensive coverage i.e. easily > RM1k.

Hello guys,

Below is Critical Care plan from Chartis Malaysia Insurance. If want to ask anything, kindly PM me.

The premiums are very competative thumbup.gif

But a couple of questions:
1. Is there a Survival Period .... The period of XX days after the diagnosis of a covered critical illness for which the insured person must survive before a claim becomes valid. I know Pacific Insurance's Medi Help's survival period is 14 days. Some CI plans from other companies has a survival period of 30 days.

2. Is there guaranteed renewal? For Pacific Insurance's Medi Help, it is "this Policy is renewable at the option of the Policyholder subject to ...." and any revise of premium is "applicable to all Policyholders irrespective of their claim experience". What about Chartis's CI plan?

I've considered a few PA plans and this is my 2 sen:

About PA, I think it's useful for those with family/dependents because of:
- "accidental death benefit".
- misc benefits like funeral and bereavement and repatriation of mortal remains

But for those without dependents, I find only the following coverage useful:
- Accidental Permanent Disablement (but I believe life and maybe CI plans cover Permanent Disablement as well)
- Personal Liability
- Temporary Total Disablement
(the later two might not be available with 'cheaper' plans)

Regarding the "medical expenses" benefit, it's usually not much, usually only several thousand ringgit max .... which can be covered by a good medical card.

Veda, i subscribed to digi PA insurance, RM6 a month, 100K coverage

I believe it's no frills policy that covers only accident death and permanent disablement? But RM6 for RM100k is still cheap nod.gif

Actually a person can get "free" PA from a variety of sources ...... such as certain credit cards, bank accounts, and auto assist programmes.

But if a person requires high coverage, then buying from an insurance company is the way to go.

Hi PJusa,

Thanks for the reply, and I really appreciate the feedback. What got me interested in insurance lately is because I've had abdominal pain, so it got me thinking.

This morning I went for ultrasound, apparently the doctor scanned some sort of 5mm (suspected to be stone) in the tube near to the bladder. The ultrasound doctor kept a report, and wrote everything was fine within my system, however there is a suspected stone near to the bladder.

1. Does this mean I am no longer eligible for Insurance? is there a cooling off period, e.g. I wait for 3 months, then apply?

2. TDMC hospital doctor said that their reports are not computerised however insurance companies can check our files by doing so manually. So when I apply for the medical coverage, what is going to happen?
*
1. I'm sorry but this means your application for medical insurance will likely either be rejected or the insurance company will impose exclusion or premium loading. And if an an insurance company rejects you or impose special condition, you'll have to declare this to every insurance company you apply to in the future.

2. I don't think you can "escape". If you don't declare this during application, the insurance investigators will likely find out when and if you make a claim.

Veda,

Thanks for the input. Basically, the doctor say it is only suspected stone. So let's say if I go for further tests. And I can prove that there is no stone. So what is the verdict?

IF you can get it in black and white from the doctor that there is no stone and you are 100% fine, then of course you are eligible for medical insurance at normal rates.

A former colleague of mine, who has 2 PA policies from 2 different insurers (I won't name the companies), was crippled in an accident.

He experienced great difficulty claiming the money from both insurers ..... Imagine a crippled man given the roundabout, being told everytime the boss was not in, etc.

One (the one with the lower coverage) finally paid after more than a year, the other is still giving excuses.

I believe insurance is necessary, but remember it is a business, not charity. I also believe one should not overpay. My coverage is pretty comprehensive ..... medical insurance, CI, PA ... yet it is less than RM100 per month.
