still waiting for Digi broadband to reach my place in Tmn maluri. Darn it, short of 100-300meters to my house. Other parts of taman maluri is covered though.. urggghh.. but checking on my phone, there is a 3g digi.. all i can do is wait now.

anyway preducer,

i think digi broandband will run fine on online games, though i dont know what kind of games though. I play Left 4 Dead(FPS) and occasionally TF2 on celcom 3g (384kbps with 200+ms), runs fine too except with few minor hiccups here and there especially on saturday night. So, i think (just an opinion not fact..huhu), digi broadband probably would do just fine.

If you can see 3G icon on your phone, shouldn't be a problem for you to access right? smile.gif
*
Ahhhh.. yeah, i was having a though of just subscribing and taking the risk, but then, i guess, i can just wait a bit longer.
Digi broadbanderrr, i dont know, first, my sim card is still the 64k sim. i checked using "searching the network manually" on nokia hp. That was how i managed to see 3G digi. 2nd, the coverage map is still showing that my house isnt under the digi broadband coverage though some parts of Tmn Maluri are (these parts of maluri are only recently covered - only on the last 3 weeks they showed up). I am not sure if digi will allow, and even so, i might still get only edge speed. I am currently on edge unlimited.

QUOTE(preducer @ Apr 20 2009, 08:19 PM)
talrasha,

i dont play online games on pc but it's on ps3. even with streamyx i cant get good games during peak hour.
*
Ahhh, i see, but i do know, couple of forumers using maxis mobile internet (unlimited with no FUP at hsdpa best effort speed, which is entirely different than maxis wireles mobile broadband) playing with their ps3. My hunch is, digi at average speed of 700kbps, probably will do just fine. Once again, just my hunch. hihi.

I am waiting for digi broadband or digi mobile 3g ( though i love the mobile 3g, since that would make my hp running at its fullest features like email, maps n stuffs). Right now, using celcom prepaid 3g and digi postpaid w edge unlimited)

well here it is as shown by the coverage map. Hmmm, wonder if i am at the receiving end of the reception?

QUOTE(davidmak @ Apr 20 2009, 11:15 PM)
True also. But Digi has so far exceeded my expectations. WCDMA/HSDPA is available at 90% of the places I travel to (10% being my office, no line and back to Edge). Most important is that my home (particularly my room) has full bar and good reception quality.

Well of course, minus the frequent disconnects. After thing has settled down, everything seems to fall in place and I get good download speeds.
*
Hopefully, if i do sign-up, i ll have a full bar too, full wcdma will do just fine.

QUOTE(mac.tay @ Apr 20 2009, 11:27 PM)
no need wait coverage.
like me, as long u see digi (3G) network can sign up oredi  tongue.gif
*
Oh! you did that? So, do you get that 700kbps speed eventhough you are out of coverage but see the digi (3G) signal? If it is still a full of 384kbps, i can still live with that. Hoho, maybe it is time for me to depart with my so-long-slow-but-loveable edge limited. Whoaho!!

Yeah, a very humble reference. I was at a location which is 2-3 blocks away from the coverage (much further than the chart provided here) and I can still get full speed!  thumbup.gif
*
Now, sounds very tempting. I guess, i ll give Digi a visit this weekend. Anyway, is the modem provided(if we buy) a lock-free? meaning can be used with other telco simcards. Or buying your own (where as but at lowyat..hehe) would be better?

DiGi modem's is not locked.

Anyway, if you can manually locate DiGi 3G signal thru network searching, then your area should be covered.
But you wouldn't know how many DiGi 3G signal bars is there till you officially sign up.
The worst case possibility is you might get on/off 1 bar of WCDMA network. .. tongue.gif
Hmm, speaking of worst case scenario, if i just get 1 bar of wcdma, can i still surf at 3g speed and "off 1 bar of wcdma" meaning it will resort to edge speed?

wew....

sounds good.....i want to switch to DiGi...
Celcom so saks....lately, i've got this msg frm Celcom,

"A friendly reminder, your data usage is reaching the allocated 5GB/ mth (Celcom Broadband Policy). Pls reduce your usage to avoid having your speeds managed."

and this,

"Dear Sir/Ms, you have exceeded the 5GB/ mth usage as per Celcom Broadband policy. We reserve the right to control yr broadband speed when deemed necessary. Thk U."

both of them were frm 25222.

i dont know, what they mean with the Unlimited Acces... now they reduce my speed...wtf!~ FYI, i used the up to 3.6Mbps pckge.

sm1, i've got aLready blacklist with Celcom, can i switch to DiGi with my blacklist status?

brows.gif  sweat.gif    unsure.gif
*
i guess, once you reach the limit, they throttle you back to 128kbps right (for 3.6mbps)

even with the digi discover, explore and extreme broadband, there is a usage volume of 3gb, 10gb and 20gb respectively.
See here

Unlimited means differently according to them as we see it in laymen term. Speaking of blacklist, aint sure. You may try your luck.

The likelihood of the modem dropping to EDGE speeds will be higher. Also at such receptions (nevermind how many bars available, we should talk about signal strength, DSSI), the speeds will be unstable too and a lot of 're-transmission' will happen. As a result, your download speeds will be affected and also experiencing loss packets. So the modem will most likely switch back to the nearest cell tower which is most likely an EDGE-only connection (since the 3G transmitting tower is far away).

Weather conditions will also affect coverage at these bordeline areas. Coverage can wider at ideal conditions and coverage can be worse during bad conditions.
*
ohh my.. hmm, maybe i should hold on to the idea first. I ve still got my edge unlimited and Celcom Prepaid Broadband (boths are running fine) . Anybody in Taman Maluri using Digi BB (helloiinggg...lol)? I agree on weather conditions. Bad weather and especially b4 it rains (when you get those dark and murky clouds - like ASTRO) I ve been like in online games "Hey guys, gtg : Friends like "AIkkk why? : Me - Its going to rain here, bad weather.. LOL.

Unlimited actually only applies in the time you can use the service. As with current broadband connection approach, there are no dial-up procedures to follow. Its an always on connection. Compare this to our traditional dial-up internet, we are charged according to the duration we use for that particular session. Reason being we're using the land-lines infrastructure and TM charges few cents per minute. So even if you not downloading anything, you're still using utilizing the phone lines.

Current broadband always on connection can accommodate an almost unlimited number of users anytime without going through TM's voice land-line systems (therefore skipping the usual charges). We have mobile broadband now that skips TM's entire infrastructure. So this calls for a different approach in billing customers/users. They now either charge a fix rate per month (flat method) or charge according to the number of data transferred (progressive method).

They play this new rules to old internet dial-up users giving them a sense of unlimited in those 'old perspectives'. In the new approach, unlimited has a different meaning... as in NOT SO unlimited anymore since you are charged by the data you transferred. There are more reasons like bandwidth charges, etc but that calls for a different discussion.

olla david,

i think i ve seen this back in other networking posts - Bandwith Capped Post (aint sure here) smile.gif But, thanks again for the clarifications. Haha, i am sure there must be forumers on other threads defending the my-unlimited-against-yours-unlimited biggrin.gif

aremien,

They just tell you the truth but not the whole truth. Throttled at 128kbps : they will say, "hey you still can surf the net.." but of course at lower speed, thus taking longer times.
Now, this just reminds me of something i used to do when i was small. Mom and dad asked me to study while they were out. And i did, studied for like 30minutes, and played like 1.5hours.
And when asked, "did you study?" Now, of course being a good boy, I would say, "yes i did" I did tell them the truth but not the whole truth. hehe.

They still throttle the speed as in their FAQ.

See hereon Q.16 n 17

Q16. What is the usage limit for these broadband packages?

*
A16. - The Discover package comes with a data quota/usage limit of 3GB. Usage beyond 3GB will be charged at 15sen/10MB and will be capped at a maximum of RM138/month.
- The Explore package comes with a data quota/usage limit of 10GB. Usage beyond 10GB will be charged at 5sen/10MB and will be capped at a maximum of RM138/month.
- The Extreme package comes with a data quota/usage limit of 20GB. Usage beyond 20GB will be free although the speed will be throttled to 128kbps.

Q17. And what happens after I’ve reach the maximum capped amount…?

*
A17. My, my wink.gif You will still be able to access the internet but your broadband connection will be throttled to a lower speed of 128kbps for all 3 packages.

we are on dg broadband thread la bro... biggrin.gif
on edge may be will get around 20-30kpbs oni... cry.gif
*
since you said 130-140kbps... that was why i was asking were you on edge (errrr.. lain pulak bunyi).

should you have stated 130-140KB/s then i would know you were on digi broadband. The diff is the "B"

anyway, glad to hear that you re on broadband speed.. rclxms.gif so that means, i might get that speed too
since my coverage area is near.. drool.gif

on edge - we will get around 20KB/s-30KB/s not 20kbps (that is even worse than dial up (56k),
cause 1KB/s = 8kbps (right all sifu here?.)

My steam is currently downloading server at 42-48KB/s = 336-384kbps which to me is the right speed since i am on Celcom Broadband Prepaid with 3G speed only

davidmak,

Yeah.. hope Digi will maintain its two-thumbs-up portfolio. Been happy with digi edge unlimited and been waiting for so long for Digi Broadband.

And i hope to in a not-so-distant future, Digi will offer 3G on its mobile services.

That speed mentioned by you, just makes me drool drool.gif drool.gif drool.gif

Yes agreed. Although I am very happy with Digi Broadband (WCDMA/HSDPA) but when in areas without these coverage naturally the modem will fall back to EDGE. At these EDGE speeds, the speed is very very slow for me. Its more like dial-up modem speed. However, I see people very happy with DiGi Edge. What kind of data rate should I be expecting on EDGE?

My average download on EDGE is only around 6-9KB/s (20-80kbps). Loading Facebook is extremely slow and even slower than on Streamyx's suckiest day. In my house, there are several interior location where reception is bad and the modem will fall back to EDGE. Probably its a 'blackhole' hahahaha! Anyway, is there a way to keep the modem locked on WCDMA/HSDPA? The reception at these areas are usually 1-2 bars. It work fine but the modem will soon fall back to EDGE.
*
when i was using edge.. simple download (like downloading applications like CCleaner).. i would get true edge speed (15-25KB/s). And i made it a habit of not running other internet-related programs while downloading. At least if i had to, i would open 2-3 pages while downloading (upgrading i-tunes while surfing web 2-3 pages, i would get 10-18KB/s). On average, 15-22KB/s. More than 22 like 26 or 27.. i would be happy biggrin.gif . less than 10.. aint good, though sometimes, certain sites seem to be the culprit. Though i believe, edge could be higher than what is being offered. These are all my readings for almost 2 years on edge at Taman Maluri.

I ve never used modem, all using Nokia phones since sim card is attached to my phone lines and makes em easy for me to be really on the go. 6630, 5500 Sport, N80 and N82. ( i prefer Nokia since their Pc suite is easier for me to configure than SE). Using 5500 i didnt get true speed of edge since it was only class 10 edge speed. N82 wins over with class 32 edge speed (plus 3.5g ready).

Even on edge, my bitcomet (errr... my brother used em.. rolleyes.gif lol) i would get a constant 10KB/s and if downloading while sleep.. i ll get 17-25KB/s

Facebook, by nature is a bit slow, but not to the point of extremely slow. But then again, maybe, you are used to 3g/3.5g speed, thus edge speed is unbearable to you. I, on the other hand, has been living on edge speed, thus 3g or anything higher is like... OH MY... Ooooo La La!! lol rclxm9.gif Basically, you should get a speed of 10-25 with 15.16.17.18 being on average. Normal surfing, 2-3 pages open simultaneously, faster that way. You tube.. aha? dont expect the click n play.

Zwanvedder,

i might... i might... , time for a change. huhu.. We will see how things turn out

Hmm... based on what you said, probably my modem isn't Class 10 and less competent with proper EDGE modems/phones. I using Digi's modem here, the Huawei E219.  hmm.gif
*
The modem is okay. I was getting edge service with full bar and full edge speed just now.

Well, finally get myself the Digi BB Package. Though wasnt smooth. As i about to register with DGBB at Berjaya.. Kapoww! it showed that i had unfinished business with Celcom. tongue.gif So, there i went. Ran from Berjaya quickly to Celcom Center at Kg. Bharu, settled and made my payment of rm220 (this was my first celcom d68 2 years ago that i only used for one month, but then was too lazy to cancel and finally the billed added up to rm220.. Yeah my mistake) Asked the Celcom CS to issue a clearance letter too.

Brought back the letter to Digi Berjaya, showed them my payment. They checked, and later registered. Subscribe the explore package with modem. Well rm15 extra plus 12 = rm180, still cheap compared to buying bulk in garage sale. Moreover, i dont have a modem and i need one.

Ohh, earlier, the digi dealer wouldnt allow me to subscribe knowing my place wasnt covered. Then, i assured her yeah i knew all the risks. She was like looking at me with that "you r funny.." kind of look. Then she asked me if if would be using desktop or lappy, and i said lappy. Quickly she replied.. "ohh well, come over here.." lol She was nice though.

Anyway, took 2 hours for ur card to be activated. Done my at 5.00pm, and activated at 6.45pm. Insert in my N82, whoaho! saw that 3g. Glimpse again, saw only E sad.gif

Then put on the digi modem.. still showing 2 bars of hsdpa. Suddenly Poop full bar of Edge.. arrghhh.. Played with the settings.. force the to only accept WDCMA not "WDCMA Preferred"

Whoahoa!! received 2 bars of HSDPA, later 3 bars of HSDPA and now back to 1 bar. Though one bar, not at the expense of speed.

The only thing i dont like is, modem gets too hot, since i am not in air-conditioned room. Luckily i have a stand fan next to me.

Opps sorry ya, such a long post.

with the fan next to me on.. the modem stays warm. smile.gif

I am getting back my 4 bar of hsdpa. It was because of weather condition (thought it was going to rain just now).

I cant afford to pay more than rm130 per month for internet connection. Explore will do just fine as my weekly internet consumption is roughly around 1.2-1.3gb. Cancelled my Digi Unlimited Edge. smile.gif

Anyway, thanks ya everybody, otherwise, i might still be waiting for the coverage map to cover my house. smile.gif

at max of rm138 with 0.05sen per 10mb = thus, rm138 is another extra 6gb?
50sen = 100mb
5.00=1gb
30=6gb..

not bad.. smile.gif

haha, yeahhh i wonder why too. lol

in my case, at least i want to know, how much that extra rm138 will cost me in terms of data.

sorry, another calculations. biggrin.gif

I guess 200mb per day x 30 = 6gb. saturday n sunday - double time additional 200mbx 8 days in a month. 1.6gb. Still have another 2.4gb (great, now i can have these extra gigs to play around)

Mine, so far so good..

Dl is a constant 900kbps - 1100kbps
HSDPA bar at 3-4 on average, w a seldom of 1-2 bars.

At this rate, i might go over 10Gb, since everything now is super fast. lol (i am comparing with my previous subscription of Celcom Broadband Advance - Power Tools, CBP and Digi Edge Unlimited)

Hope this is just a phase for me, coz i really dont want to go over my 10gb. (but so syok la watching videos is smooth. whoaho!)

yeah, better to upgrade to explore.. biggrin.gif

3gb is just adequate for web surfings. Moreover, at rm138 you ll just get roughly 5+gb - thus at discover 138 = 8+gb, while at explore rm138, you ll get 16gb, but of course at a higher price.

Oh, btw, what is the billing cycle for DGBB. Is it based on your registration date? Moreover, i cant seem to register the OCS for my digi broadband in spite of my numerous attempts. Anyone know this or do i have to do something first?
