I have been using DIGI’s earlier version of broadband which uses the EDGE technology for 2 years now. It served its purpose in the beginning as I am not a heavy user. However, over the last few months, I find that it is practically useless as it keeps going offline. As it was a 2 year contract, I have to continue paying the monthly fee even though I hardly get to use it now. Nowadays, I have had to resort to looking for WIFI enabled places to do most of my web surfing.
As the contract is nearing its end, I have been looking for an alternative. Looking at P1 W1MAX’s latest promotion where we get a 1 month trial period certainly looks enticing. But then, DIGI has also rolled out its new broadband which is supposed to be much faster than those offered by the other networks. It is contract-free and considering DIGI’s option offer more mobility, it is definitely a contender. Although P1 W1MAX’s answer to mobility is the WIGGY, even their reseller tells me that it is not reliable at the moment. Looking at their coverage map, both DIGI and P1 have good coverage in my area.
I have recently found out DIGI has set up kiosks where we are able to test out their broadband. While I have not tried it, it must mean they are quite confident of their performance. However, will DIGI be giving me the same problem 2 years down the road when they get more subscribers ? One P1 W1MAX reseller was telling me as DIGI’s system has to cope with voice calls, sms and the likes in addition to data traffic, their system is liable to being clogged as compared to P1 WIMAX which is solely for data traffic. Is this true or are they just pulling wool over my eyes ? Incidentally, one P1 W1MAX reseller told me there is plan to provide voice call service through their modem in the future too.
Based on my limited knowledge, I would say DIGI is a better bet. Anyone thinks differently ?

Thanks llmcso, for the info. Guess they were feeding me misinformation. QUOTE(llmcso @ Oct 12 2009, 01:51 PM) FYI, DiGi broadband/3G is run separately with 2G which is voice/sms/mms... they want to prevent congestion between the two platform

Based on the terms, I agree that DIGI is the better choice but what bugs me is that I have been using DIGI EDGE and I am suffering from the system persistently going offline all the time. If I am not mistaken, it is not a penalty if you terminate before 1 year. It's just that you have to pay the remainder of the installments on the modem. QUOTE(ks98 @ Oct 13 2009, 08:21 AM) My opinion is always side to Digi as there is no contract and you can terminate it at anytime. Besides, in terms of mobility, Digi is definitely better than P1. Also, we can use Digi modem for other ISP, e.g Celcom, Maxis but P1 modem is only usable with P1. I don't like P1 also is because of the high start-up fee, e.g activation fee, registration fee, higher modem cost and the worst is the contract. Note: Digi is contractless only if you buy your own modem. Otherwise, there is penalty if you terminate your account in less than 1 year. Added on October 13, 2009, 5:01 pmDIGI is offering the DISCOVER package at 1 Utama 14-18 October at 48.00 Wonder what's the catch. This post has been edited by LING@LOWYAT: Oct 13 2009, 05:01 PM

I am using DIGI EDGE. Subscribed when they had the promo 2 years ago together with HP notebook, HP phone and data unlimited plan. The connection is characteristically good in early evening (when most people are in transit) and after midnight (when most people are "recharging") At other times, so very often I want to just throw the notebook. QUOTE(ks98 @ Oct 14 2009, 08:34 AM) On disconnection issue, actually i had similar issue with Digi BB at the beginning but the issue had root-caused to my router driver issue. After upgrade my router firmware, it's worked perfectly!

Read from the papers that they are having a promotion at 1 Utama and was thinking of going there today. But last night, at Aman Puri, Kepong saw a dealer also having a road show who told me that there is coverage in the area even though it is not yet reflected in the coverage map so decided to sign up on the spot. He told me the line should be available by 6pm today.
Using my existing sim card from my phone, I could detect that the signnal strength is 95%.
The problem is, as at 9:30pm today, they still have not activated my line. Call after call to the dealer and they told me that DIGI was taking longer to process my account because I have an existing post-paid accout ! My existing post-paid account is on auto debit so there is no chance for me to owe them anything. And they call it Broadband done right. I would say it is about time they think up a new tag line because there is nothing RIGHT about how they are doing things. What kind of moron choose to creat negative goodwill by offending your existing customer ? If I were using a Maxis or Celcom line, they would have processed my account without hassle. Is that weird ?
Instead of showing appreciation to customers who have been supporting them, they choose to penalise existing customer. Brilliant ! There should be a chapter on this in future text books on Marketing and Cusomer Management.
Even if they need to check my account status, in these days, it can be done in less than the time you need to finish a cigarette. So, what is the problem ? Why didn't they say outright "priority will be given to non DIGI customers" ? I would have saved myself the trouble.
Now the dealer tells me they hoped it will be ready by 11am tomorrow. And to think that P1 can have your account ready in 1 hour. Sheesh. WAKE UP DIGI !!!
Well, I for one will not be having a happy Deepavali tomorrow.

QUOTE(plateau @ Oct 16 2009, 10:41 PM) They usually activate the BB within 24 hours. Anything less is usually considered a bonus. I'm sure that by tomorrow it will get activated. Be patient my friend True, they finally activated my line this morning but that was after all those calls to the dealers last night. I don't know if it would have happened otherwise. In any case, why should we accept 24 hours activation as norm ? After all, we are required to pay up in advance. They need to do better. If waiting is one of my better virtues, I would have stuck with TM Net dial up. This is the age where things happen in mini/micro seconds. Even the immigration department managed to shorten their passport renewal time from 1 week to 1 day and now to just a few hours. It's a question of whether there is a will to change and whether they cared enough. If we continue to pamper them they will continue to be complacent.

I noticed another peculiarity.
Whenever I insert the modem into my Vista notebook, instead of the DIGI INTERNET screen, I get the INSTALLATION screen and when I click auto-run then the DIGI INTERNET screen appears.
However, on my XP pc, I do not have this peculiarity.
I have tried reinstalling numerous times but the peculiarity persists.

My HP 512 which came bundled with the Data Unlimited plan only has EDGE capability and not 3G capability.
