Hi to all Sifus,

Would like to know, what do I need (converter/adapter) and how to connect both the console and DVD player to the monitor through HDMI and output the audio to a 2.1 PC speaker. So that I can play games and watch DVD movies on the LCD monitor without plug and unplug the cables to switch between components ? And where to get those converter/adapter ? Thanks !

Dell S2409W 24" Monitor (only 1 HDMI)
Xbox360
DVD Player
2.1 PC Speaker

U can use vga cables to connect your xbox on vga(dvi if u can find a vga to dvi converter) and hdmi for your dvd player.

As for the sound, there's no audio out fo this monitor eh?

Using the vga cable audio cable u can connect your 360 to your speaker using the Y splitter cable or opitical(if your speaker supports this). or if u buy an 360 elite, u can use your hdmi port and the audio dongle to channel your sound to the speakers. I dont know about your dvd player unless it can output video/sound thru seperate hdmi and composite simulataneously, there will be no sound for your dvd player. I dont have this problem using my monitor(e2200hd) since there's a sound input/output for the monitor. I can connect my 360(vga)/pc(dvi)/ps3(hdmi) and all connected to my 2.1 speaker. thumbup.gif

Hope that helps.

Btw, i was thinking. Why dont u use the xbox to play your dvds? There no need of an xtra player for it. Or better yet, go for a ps3 for the ultimate Blu-ray experience. flex.gif icon_rolleyes.gif

Yupe ... after read pel post, i go n do reading abt the audio out at the back of the monitor, but it's not a good solution bcos the the port goes into sleep if there's no sound signal for 5 seconds but need 10-15 seconds to wake after signal detected sad.gif ...

So, it is confirm that if use HDMI on DVD player, it cannot output the audio to other connection/port ?

This is how my setup goes.

My 360 is connected beside my monitor. And My pc is nearby as well.

The 360 is connected to the monitor via a HDMI cable and my PC , via DVI. The monitor has an input and output port behind it. I connect the PC to my monitor via a 2 way input cable (1 input to the monitor and another to the monitor) and another cable is a 1 way input cable that is connected directly to the speaker. So that input is connected to my monitor. After that i get both sounds either from my pc or my xbox360.

However, 1 thing that i noticed is some games quality played on the monitor. An example is GTA4. The game looks solarised (alittle like water colour image type) , that happens to mostly the background. Other games like GOW looks fine. Some people claimed that Halo 3 has the same solarised effect too..

Maybe it's because of the hdmi cable. I'm planning to get a VGA cable for the 360 for the monitor to see if the issue can be rectified.

Oh .. sorry .... what I mean is, bcos of HDMI on the DVD player carry both the audio n video signal, so if I use some kind of adapter n output it to PC speaker, there won't be any sound bcos, once HDMI is used, the audio signal will only output to HDMI together with video... will this happen ? Hope its clearer now ....

If I get you right,,you want to output the audio and video separately of the DVD using HDMI and you don't want to utilize the audio out of the monitor because the fade out problem..
I suggest to check first your DVD if it has composite/component output. If have, check whether if your using HDMI out of the DVD the composite/component is still active.. If yes you can use the composite/component audio out for audio via cable and HDMI for video.. You need special connector to connect your speaker for this set-up.

Hope I get you right.. sweat.gif sweat.gif

If you can utilize the composite/component output of you DVD while using HDMI connection, you need y-splitter audio cable.
check it here:

For Xbox360 HDMI connection, i suggest you to utilize the audio out of the S2409W monitor.. Audio fade out is not a big issue since it only last for a few seconds. You'll get used to it .. whistling.gif sweat.gif

That's really nice info u provide there ... really appreciate it.

So i think the easiest way is to connect both the Xbox360 and DVD player to the HDMI switch and HDMI switch to the monitor. ( For Video)
Connect the speaker to the monitor and live with the audio fade out problem. biggrin.gif

If use the y-splitter method, cannot connect both the Xbox360 n DVD player at the same time, need to manual switch ... if i'm not mistaken la ... that's also if the composite port on DVD player remain active when HDMI in use.
