I used to drink so much coffee everyday, 3-4 cups per day. That was too much.
It can give you energy, but there are side effects (bad, not good).
Coffee all day, no exercise, stress, eat poorly, and you have a recipe for disaster...
I think maybe my teeth had to have a filling because of the tons of coffee I was drinking. Surprisingly, I'm not addicted to coffee.

Obviously you missed out on the negative nootropic effects of caffeine.
Sustained caffeine intake will develop some form of dependence. Brain activity was shown to be reduced when someone takes caffeine everyday. This activity can be restored to 'normal' when caffeine is consumed. Hence, the slow sluggish feeling you have if you're a regular coffee drinker without your morning buzz.
A week or so without caffeine would reverse this dependence. It was a NatGeo article. I don't think you can develop tolerance to caffeine. Withdrawal effects are minor. The most significant effect of caffeine withdrawal is fatigue.
On the other hand, caffeine promotes short term memory but doesn't help with long term. So it's a good idea to take before your exams, but not a month before. Haha.

I am actually experiencing occassional rapid heart beat and headaches after consuming coffee. Even though I am a daily coffee drinker. p/s Feel free to click on my sig, there is a topic about coffee. Mostly based on personal experience rather then informative details.

The effects of caffeine vary from person to person; some individuals can drink several cups of coffee in an hour and notice no effects; while others may feel a strong effect after just one serving.
Regards, Joey
p.s: I've been drinking black coffee since primary school. My mum makes it every morning. Heck it! I sleep more soundly after drinking black coffee. Nice!

QUOTE(chocoholic221 @ Feb 18 2009, 06:38 PM) i read that de-caff coffee can cause cancer :/ The link has been established quite long ago and even made it in the newspapers. I'm actually surprised that de-caffeneited coffee is still being sold all over the world. They need to add a solvent to the coffee to decaffeneite it. Let me see if I can find a link. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2005/...51120122949.htm^ Decaf and heart health http://cancerweb.ncl.ac.uk/cancernet/600316.html^ Some background on the matter... but I'm quite leery of statements and conclusions from cancer agencies because I'm very sure that they've been used by various governments to whitewash and cover up cancer risks, for example from things like nuclear safety issues and even the Chernobyl fallout that spread all over Europe. http://www.goaskalice.columbia.edu/2200.html^ More info, summarised. The carbon dioxide method of processing seems promising. From this little investigation of mine I've learned to read the label to get as much information I can about the coffee's decaf process. Although I always check labels anyway and last I looked they don't say. This post has been edited by Dickson Poon: Aug 28 2009, 12:38 AM

I'm not really sure about how good it is but usually I could run alot longer on the treadmill after I have coffee. Maybe it's caffeine that boost the energy. So if it's decaf, means that there wouldn't be such side effects?
I usually just drink coffee with skim milk and no sugar. I've gotten used to it.

That's not a good sign and actually sounds dangerous. I think you have an allergy and should stop taking caffeine completely!

I take 2 to 3 cups everyday. But usually just those generic ones, no kick at all definitely won't get addicted. And I don't have a problem drinking coffee before going to sleep either, may even make me sleep sounder.
Probably a habit from younger days when my mom will make black coffee for breakfast everyday.
