You'll wear out the surface. No matter how soft your cloth is you can't beat the laws of physics, there will always be friction.
Just wipe it with the softest thing you can find, only if you ABSOLUTELY need to.

Aperture is the size of the hole that lets the light in. Variable means it can be changed.
Larger and you let more light in, smaller to let less light in. Basically lets the user(or camera) to have more variables to control over to get better pictures.
It also affects depth of field.
