...heard the 'next-generation' will be in 2012.

But by the end of 2011, you will be hearing about next-gen already. That said, we have 2009, 2010 and part of 2011 to enjoy this generation of platforms, before the next itteration.

Thus, Valhalla being the 'last version of the 360', expect Valhalla late 2010 - 2011.

If microsoft were to release their next console within the next few years it would kinda suck ... since its only since the jaspers were released were people more confident in not getting the rrod and fully enjoying the 360 not to mention production of 360 games would die out very fast .. this feels similar to what sega did when they released the sega saturn and abandoned it for the dreamcast that pissed off a lot of their customers ..I really feel sorry for the early buyers .. got ripped off with a very poor made console ..

Valhalla is confirmed to integrate the GPU and CPU into one superchip (rumored to be 45nm).

Unconfirmed reports indicate that the Valhalla is going to be slimmer and smaller than the current xbox consoles.

Jasper is the final iteration of the current design Xbox 360 console as we know it (Valhalla is going to be put into the Xbox Slim console).

Sources indicate that Microsoft is now looking into better cooling solutions from various Taiwanese companies to be included into the New Valhalla mobo.

The Jaspers are using TSMC/ATI 65nm GPU and CPU chips which are miles better than the in-house Microsoft Xenos 90nm GPU and CPU chips (found in the older Xenon and Zephyr consoles). The Falcons use 65nm CPU chips manufactured by TSMC but the GPU remains at 90nm. Please note that ATI's manufacturing process uses lead free solder (higher melting temperature) with a suspension layer in all their graphic cards so the Jaspers should be the same. The layer of suspension will prevent cracks and chips in the solder when the motherboard flexes due to heat.

Falcons uses glue in place of the suspension layer on their GPU chip and this helps (to a certain extent) in keeping the GPU in place when the MoBo flexes due to thermal radiation. Falcons are already pretty stable in terms of reliability and heat dissipation. Jaspers just increases the reliability, while keeping the extra heatsinks (found in Falcons and Opus MoBo) and getting a new 65nm GPU chip (in place of the old 90nm ones) to further decrease the core temperatures.

It doesn't matter what you buy now. Falcon Revision 3's are a pretty solid build already. Jaspers are brought in to keep the costs down so that Microsoft can further reduce the price of their consoles.

>Xenos- this is the first version. The launch versions of xbox 360 core and pro came with this motherboard. This has no hdmi port. Failure rate around 33%.
>zephyr- this is also a first version. The launch models of xbox 360 elite came with this one. This included the hdmi port. But microsoft later put this motherboard with all xbox 360 models so all had hdmi port. Failure rate around 33%.
>falcon- this is the first revision that came around september 07. This reduced the cpu to 65nm from 90nm. The power supply was reduced to 175w. This revision also reduced the failure rate to around 16%.
>jasper- this is the second revision that came around september 08. This also reduced the gpu to 65nm from 90nm. So both the cpu and gpu were 65nm. The power supply was reduced to 150w. This reduced the failure rate to about 7%. Although as this had been out for only about a few months, so we can't tell about its actual failure rate.
>valhalla- this is supposed to be the third revision that is supposed to come around the end of this year. This one will combine the cpu and gpu into a single chip and reduce the size to 45nm. The power supply will be reduced to 100w. This one will be cooler and is supposed to reduce the failure rate even lower than jasper.

Well.....usualy problem report is rising sharply after 8 months.

So the Jasper should be as good as usual appliances already.
