Here's what I got for $2599 at the HTC Shop (located outside the main entrance to LYP):

Phone and basic package (includes screen protector and pouch)
4GB Memory card
Sonic Gear USB Speaker
2 years warranty from SiS
Some small HTC gifts (pen and phone dangle)

Definitely a good package. And definitely a good phone. I'm glad I waited.

speaker is nothing to write home about, it's a USB powered (no battery slot so non portable) speaker but... because it's mean to connect the Diamond 2 to it... there's a 'free' HTC USB jack to stereo plug converter in the box.

Added on May 7, 2009, 1:00 amOh... HTC did a PRETTY GOOD job on polishing up the WM UI... definetly much more finger friendly and can serve as a stop gap before 6.5 officially reaches us.

Added on May 7, 2009, 1:11 amok.. this is interesting. I was asking myself how dare they just label a simple speaker as worth RM138... it's just a speaker, it doesn't do anything special.

Until I plugged it into the computer's USB port to power it... then Windows told me it found a new sound card....

Yup... it's not just a speaker, it's one of those chapalang USB audio devices as well so that justiies the price..

The way it works is incredibly stupid if you're unfamilar with how Windows deals with multiple audio devices, you plug it into the USB port and it immediately becomes the primary audio device, then you plug the audio out of the D2 into it and your D2 sounds output from the speaker.

But YOUR WINDOWS IS NOW MUTE cause it's primary output device is the USB sound card that was plugged in....

Added on May 7, 2009, 1:14 amOpera 9 now seems to have it's plugin support initiated since pages that use Flash have a rectangle surrounding it that says 'plugin content'

But.... after distributing Adobe Flash Lite in numerous phones without a reason to use it.

HTC didn't inlcude Flash in the D2..... youtube app all still there and usable but the Flash plugin which should theoratically allow us to play content in the browser?

nope.. not there anymore...

Added on May 7, 2009, 9:32 amyou have to wonder how for every GOOD thing HTC does to their phones they screw up something else.

For new owners of the Touch Diamond 2, if you go into the Settings tab on the touch flo screen, then select Sound. One of the on off switches there will say Event Sounds. At first I was thinking this just meant all the dings, and dongs of the various exclamation boxes the OS has.

Guess what? It includes at the very least.. the Incoming SMS sound, turning the Events Sounds off UNCHECKS the Play Sound option for the incoming SMS.

Nice to see that somethings don't change and HTC still makes small but mindboggling settings.

Added on May 7, 2009, 9:50 amOk, here are the highlights of the D2 after one night of playing with it.

- If you're thinking of getting a Diamond, there's no reason not to get a Diamond 2 instead unless you really really need the D-Pad
- HTC has done A LOT of work in hiding the blandness of the WM UI and make it look more oomph like a modern phone.
- Chinese support is built in! Don't know if this is new or other HTC phones already had it.
- They *might* have fixed the display driver, Garmin redraws a tad bit faster even though the CPU is the same speed as original diamond and there're more pixels to draw.
- Can turn off AUTO ROTATE!!! Woohooo!
- Cursor keys in Soft Keyboard to minimize impact of lost of D-Pad
- It's lighter than D1

Stupid things I've spotted so far
- Do NOT toggle the EVENT SOUNDS switch in the Touch Flo's Setting's Sound's app, that TURNS OFF ALL SOUNDS for notifications such as... New SMS! And turning it back on DOESN'T renable ALL the sounds!
- Opera 9 now displays Flash content as "Plug In Content" instead of the blank square but.... HTC DIDN'T include Flash Lite in the phone... for the first time when it seems we might actually be able to USE it. HTC DIDN'T include Flash. That's bloody ironic!
- Cannot poke reset button without removing back cover, In D1 we could still just reach in from the side to press it.
- HTC REMOVED ACCESS to original Start Menu/Programs View, which means we only have the Programs Shortcut tab, and the All Programs list (if you're familiar with Touch Flo's program app) to find programs to run. VERY ANNOYING!

Don;'t ask about battery life yet since I just got it yesterday.

2599 with EPP + 60 for 8gig micro sd

Phone and basic package (includes screen protector and pouch)

btw.. noob question, how to set my mp3 as ring tone. I realised that the reception not very good for this phone. I used to get full bar in my house, but for this phone i only get 2-3 bars... very disappointed.

I am guessing the radio ROM is more to battery saving then antenna coverage.

Anyway, on GSM unless your signal is terrible like one block or no block the conversation is usable. It's on 3G that's when poor reception affects call quality.

And since I'm never on 3G for calls it doesn't effect me that much tongue.gif

it does affect you, because weak signal means higher power consumption. btw.. the wifi signal also dam suck. did expect this kind of performance when i paid 2.6k....

somewhat disappointed with the so-called "mystery gift". it looks cheap and felt like just an old stock clearing exercise disguised as "gift".

better to give something practical like a decent pouch, or car charger. bad move, SIS!
