I reckon i would open up a thread just to see how many people still have their XBOX1 to this very day, probably did some mods that we could share and what not. I just bought my second Xbox just for the use of XBMC, and probably Xlink Kai although this technology is somehow old, but there are new T3CH binary builds revised recently 25-01-09, and everything else gets more interesting. The reason why is because i still want the xbox to work efficiently to prevent it from collecting dust in my shelves.

And this is definitely for educational purposes only. Please discuss about the XBOX1 abilities here, so that we can share. Moreover, i need some guide on how to install a larger HDD to the xbox.

Regards.

List of XBOX1 owners :

1) Kernkraft400 - Black 10gb Retail HDD (Upgraded to a 160GB HDD)- XBMC dashboard.
2) mockery - Black 80gb Upgraded HDD - XBMC dashboard; Crystal Blue 8gb Retail HDD - XBMC dashboard.
3) pel - Black 8gb Retail HDD - XBMC dashboard; Halo Edition Retail HDD - XBMC dashboard.
4) CyberTroop - Black 8gb Retail HDD - Dashboard unknown.
5) gundamalpha - Black 8gb Retail HDD - MS Dashboard.
6) Morpheuse - 2 Units of Black 8gb Retail HDD - XBMC dashboard ; Black 320gb Upgraded HDD - XBMC dashboard.
7) bopiang - Black 40gb Upgraded HDD - EVOX dashboard.
8) enCORe - Black 60gb Upgraded HDD - XBMC dashboard, x2 chip.
9) wandiana - Black 8gb Retail HDD - XBMC dashboard - Menu in Bahasa Melayu rclxms.gif
10) SaruChan - Transparent 200GB HDD - XBMC dashboard.
11) satriakid - Black 40gb Upgraded HDD - UnleashX dashboard.
12) kikersniky - Black 8gb Retail HDD - UnleashX dashboard.
13) rolandhoo - Black 40gb Upgraded HDD - XBMC dashboard (mc360 theme), x2 chip.

Im looking forward to do the upgrades by myself, although i know it is expensive to buy the tools and what not; but i need to do it myself to for educational purposes and further expose myself to the world of computers.

Do you use Xlink kai with your xboxes mate? It is indeed brilliant if you connect your xbox to the internet. Alot of things can be done smile.gif

Got 2 xbox 1 black - just serviced by bernard and another one Halo edition. Both using xbmc dashboard with retail hard drive. Only using it as a media centre(play dvd, music) and the other one is currently collecting dust.thumbup.gif

Would love to have some guide on how to upgrade the HDD on xbox.

@Cybertroop, you can use it as an ultimate XBOX MEDIA CENTRE machine for videos, musics, and et cetera depending on your own personal preference. You can also play online if you're keen on playing older games with people on xlink.

@gundam, unmodded is good. But i reckon since the xbox is discontinued, the only way to extend its lifespan is to further study the capabilities of the XBOX not only as a console, but as well as a powerful pc back then.

You can find Torx screwdrivers easily in Ace hardware. They sell them separately, or as sets. I got mine from the Summit USJ branch a long time ago.

Since xbox is a full blown x86 PC. Its possible to install linux on it as well , this would give you the true power of a computer and opens up possibility to run OpenGL games , firefox and other couple of stuff !

Okay sweet. The journey to get the HDD makes my progress very slow. When i get that, i will try to document the HDD upgrade, but its very simple once we have a hardmodded xbox, we just insert the hdd and use autoinstallers to build it.

Xbox 1 is great, i love it. I'm using Evox dash, with Xbmc as an app. loads of emulator. and only mod it to 40gb,
i just use evox with format command burn on disc to format the 40gb and ftp back the backup, i didnt use any
auto installer. i'm currently planning to get bigger hdd, coz i want to dump all my games on the hdd.
BTW anyone wanna trade Xbox games? its hard to get one these days, why not trade? icon_rolleyes.gif

Apparently Evox is one of the autoinstallers. It is called Slayer's EVOX that includes format command. But that depends, they have the standalone evox and bundled evox by Slayer. So, either way is good smile.gif

Btw, i have successfully upgraded and install a 160GB hard drive to my xbox. I will post a tutorial just for fun.

evox is the dashboard replacement of xbox original dashboard. slayer is the auto installer.

xbox + xbmc + component is great for enjoying scaled-up xvid/divx/dvd video on one's big ass screen. and it done a remarkable job at it too. but don't have enough juice to run today's HD compressed video.

a dual core cpu + hdmi/component graphic card + ram + hdd might cost RM700-RM1k but in the long run would be a better investment to enjoy HD video.

You are right xxboxx, but look at the state of it, having to stream or view HD contents will be taxing, well at least for me, and majority of people, since having to download HD contents would take hours or even days, due to its huge download size.

Well at least for me now, dvdrips are reasonable, although i wont get to see the details as compared to HD videos.

well, i have problems with running HQ mkvs on my xbox, sometimes i get the audio out of sync and most of the time i got the vid choppy, somtimes i can play it well in dvdplayer instead of the default Mplayer, oh, and with dvdplayer,
u can fast forward videos, Mplayer cant. I usually dload animes from streaming sites, so they usually comes in Flv.
press the white button on the videos and choose play using. i prefer Dvdplayer (it doesnt have much diff but it does
play some vids well than mplayer. rclxms.gif

You can fast forward videos in Mplayer, but you have to download the codec packs, VLC player if iam not mistaken. So is your xbox still running, or have been collecting dust?

The old xbox has better media center playback than 360. I buy it since I dont have DVD/vcd/mp4 player and because of halo games smile.gif .

For Xbox360 I'll wait until every problem solved tongue.gif

btw
xbox - 60GB - XBMC - Executer2

Yes, you got that right enCORe. Xbox is the best for standard definition media playback. The limited media playback on the xbox 360 is due to the piracy issues on High Def media.

Yeah there is a tutorial on how to use PC DVD rom with the xbox externally or internally. It has better compatibility against dvd discs thought, so you are good to go because those philips drivers pre installed onto those xboxes are sometimes incompatible with the latest media discs formats.

XBOX Scene PC DVD Drive on Xbox

PC DVD rom on Xbox the good and the bad

Anyways, i installed Mediastream skin on the XBMC. Look at how beautiful the interface is.

@enCOre, you just have to download the mediastream skin and ftp it to your Xbox :
F or E or C / Apps/xbmc/skins .

And you have to have the latest revision of XBMC march 3 2009.

@Bopiang,

XBMC Team Razorfish's Mediastream

XBMC Aeon Project skin

There are 2 ultimate skin. Aeon and Mediastream. But seriously, i would recommend the MediaStream skin because it is user friendly, and definitely the ultimate skin smile.gif

I would love to help. But i reckon you are away from me. But i can tell you that if you are computer and internet literate, you can pull it off easily. First things first, i need to know whether your Xbox is out of the box original, is it soft-modded or does it has chipped on it?

To know if it is original, it can't play pirated/backed up games on a normal DVD5 or DVD9.

To know if its soft-modded, it can run pirated/backed up games on normal DVD5 or DVD9.

To know if its chipped, there is an icon that will most probably say ' xecuter 2 ' during boot up i think this chip is the most common in Malaysia.

If it shows evox symbol, then you are either softmodded or hard modded. Which means you are safe to load into XBMC. Now all you have to do is download " SLAYERz 2.7 xbmc autoinstaller " , burn it into a disc, and load it into your xbox. After that, the autoinstaller will install xbmc for you easily without any fuss. Just go through the on screen instructions smile.gif Then you might have to learn how to FTP contents to your xbox but thats the next part.

I installed a 160gigabyte, and i have 100 on F: , 25 on G;, 10 on E:

Probably u need to reformat the drive first, then install it back again.

Sorry for the late reply. Yes you can. Just set it up as an application. Your main dash would still be Evox.

I can help. But its very very easy if u have the computer skills, cause the technology is something like the computer. Go for Western Digital, i would recommend 160gb or less. Not too big cause it might be hard for the 32Mb ram to access the files, unless you upgrade ur ram to 64mb.

Just google which hard drive is compatible for the xbox. Some is not compatible, so gather up a list before u buy in the local computer store,

Yes you can. Just make sure the hard drive is set to "SLAVE". And make sure you do all the HDD upgrading within 1 hour, or not you will get some error because of the time setting biggrin.gif

Hi guys,

nice to see that so many people here still using old XBOX. You can put me in the list too.

- Black 80gb Upgraded HDD - Evox Dashboard, XBMC, Matrix chip

The XBOX works at least for two hours every day. Playing videos and MP3s from my home server or streaming online radio. Its the most important home entertainment device next to the television in my home.

I got an XBox at home. Been years didn't touch it. Still working though. Anyway, been slugging through PS3 and XBox 360 lately these days. Would love to know if there's something that can be done to the XBox besides playing games, listening to music and movies as well.

Here's a peek at my current gaming desk. Anyway, The XBox 360 has been readjusted to horizontal position.

Anyway, I got a PS2, an XBox and Sega MegaDrive in Ipoh. PS2 and XBox still workable. Unfortunately for my Sega Megadrive, there's a broken pin the the socket at the back of the console. (I think it's the power supply socket)

I'm not that technical as yu guys. I just leave it for entertainment purposes and not some experimenting purpose.

@wandiana, alright. Ill add you into the list. Wow editing the menu.xml into bahasa melayu is somehow a remarkable achievement smile.gif

Wonderful. Probably you could host the file, and then ill add it up here, if some of us wants to have a Bahasa Melayu menu. And im sure, you're the first one to do this. Haha you should patent it.

@shaqmunak, get a 250gb or 500gb WD. Its super cheap nowadays. I just saw one myself from the recent pc fair ranging between rm250-300. Its the best media center, i have to say. Just install all your movies, musics and pictures.

@Fred, why don't you wonder around the marketplace? If I am not mistaken brother Yoroi360 is selling his HALO1&2 Original Xbox game in bundle for rm100. You could set up a deal with him.

@greyshadow, yeah man that is the only fallback. This has been discussed before due to it's hardware limitations. Back then in the early 2000s, HD weren't much of a trend and it requires high specs hardware. The xbox wasn't design in such a way. But it handles Standard Def medias very well!

There is a USB adapter for the xbox if you want to play medias directly from the USB thumbdrive, or whatever external hard disk that you have. It looks like this. I am pretty sure it has been phased out and is not manufactured anymore. Your best bet is to try looking for them at hardcore game shops, and expect it to be priced not less than expensive sad.gif

must be the H.264 encoded avi, or divx with very high res

if it's [DB] Bleach then it's cause by the h264 codec, xbox is not powerful enuf to decode it smoothly

normal divx shouldn't have such problem

Hehe, i modded mine into 250GB, but only detect 129GB.. sheesh.. but still using it tho it just detect
129GB, wasted about the same amount, but well.. still looking for solution.

Maybe i need a diff modchip, know where to get any?

some format cant play properly in xbox, especially when its encoded in super duper HQ.
its prolly the ram or procs issue, not powerful enough, like playing HD movie on P3 system.
U can re encode the videos, i usually does that, because flvs video that i dload sometimes
doesnt have sound when playing on xbox.

Xbox is still a cool machine, due to the multimedia capability especially XBMC.

you'll need to create an extra drive, can't remember the correct procedure... go google for slayer xbmc

anyway... what can we expect from a Pentium3 733Mhz CPU with only 64MB RAM tp play HD content? tongue.gif

even some of the P4 PC will have problem playing H264 files tongue.gif

I think for your problem, you need to create another partition on the G: or F:, and i think the easiest way for it to be done is by using the Slayer's Evox disc installation, or you can also find how to do it manually, through xboxscene tutorials.

Even my old Celeron 2.8ghz with 1gb ram couldnt play HD contents properly.

By right it should work though, any chances of you missing a few crucial steps on the road to partition your drive? Why not give it another shot? Last time i had to reformat my hard drive so that it would be read by the xbox by using the pc, it took me three trials to successfully format it. It took hours, but all the work was worth it.

well, i tried everything that i could, that include manual paritition and format, it doesnt get G: drive to work, (no my evox and xbmc setting just fine),
f: drive still 129gb. the readme also said its supposed to be 129 and remaining will be g:, but i have no g:.

Do u know anyone that can install DuoX2 chip? found a seller that sell
a chip here, (white version which need to be flashed).

Why dont you try download Slayers Auto install DVD, it partitions your drive to F: and G: automatically. And hopefully youll get 129gb on your F: and the rest on G:, or X: or it could also be on Y: .

About the chip, i dont know who specifically could do the flashing, but generally those who are good with computers, that knows how to solder chips, would find it easy to go through the procedures with much success.

I think everyone has only one power supply for their respective xbox. You could try your luck on ebay. I saw there were some forumers who are selling their Xbox, so you could try your luck by negotiating with them whether they could sell the power supply separately.

Hi,

I thought that it would be wonderful to share some of my developed video plugins for users here too. You could try one of these plugin and if you have problems (errors) & tips please feel free pm me icon_rolleyes.gif

My short intro: I am Malaysian, so when i developed (under OS X) those plugins i have considered the average broadband speed you would get. All the video plugins are for you to STREAM (you can download too (flv) by using the plugin setting) movies/tv shows/documentaries to your TV via ur xbox or appletv. My personal recommendation is to go with Watchnewfilms, Top Documentary Film and Vidlcs first.

Here is the link MyCode

Sure. You can try ask around here. There used to be some who wanted to sell their Xboxes. Or you could try console couch sales.

i notice that, if the external HDD is format as fat32, the it can be recognise by the xbox by plugin into the controller port using the usb converter.

and if ur xbox dvd spoilt, u can actually use a dvd drive using a y cable.

now seldon use xbmc because i using YDL on my ps3, but it still cant handle mkv file because sony didnt release the full power to other OS.

hi, is there any RF converter/modulator for xbox?

i have a very old tv, which only have RF input (antenna) - no composite or component..so the only way i can connect is by using RF input..

if there is such thing (i know for PS2 there is RF modulator), where can i get it (place/website url) and what is the expected price?

second question..XBOX 360 and XBOX 1..do they have same input connector? (like PS1, PS2 & PS3 backward compatibility)?

third question..XBOX 1's component cable (5 color output)..whats the current price?

Bought an xbox quite recently, updated to latest firmware on hardmod chip and xbmc with evo X and unleashX. Playing with it nearly every night and watching videos/movies/TV series off it (hdd style).

Just wondering, anyone still got the HD AV pack? Seems hard to find. I'm guessing the unit's cable is defective since there is no sound from the red RCA cable. Or might be the hardware. But other than that, loving every bit of it.

The only way you could find it would be through Ebay, or maybe if you're lucky PlayAsia. The HD AV pack has definitely been phased out. So, its really hard to get a new one. You're lucky even if you get a good second hand unit i guess.

recent jtag modded allow xbmc running with xbox 360, not yet perfect but its a good start...

anyway the xbox1 xbmc is the best media center, far better than windows mce, if it come with built in usb port it would ease us for media playing

No probs. I was kinda annoyed cause my flac and 320kbps mp3 keeps lagging even on light skins. End up I found out that the PVPlayer is the culprit. And playing each songs individually is annoying as I let my songs run randomly. So, found T3CH's xbmc revision for xbox was great, making flvs scrolling easy too. No more crashing! rclxms.gif

My homeplugs are fried again. Can't log in Kai due to the damaged ports. I need to purchase new ones, probably better ones than Aztech's which fried twice for me. Any idea how much they are priced at?

Btw, I think you're using PGR theme, thats the default one for XBMC.

Yea, PGR theme.

No idea about Xlink. I don't use it as my xbox serve as a media center. Music every morning before heading out while showering + dressing.

Maybe check over the trading zone? There might be other varieties.

Seems like they're neglecting the Xbox. It wouldn't be nice if theres alot of bugs on the XBMC for Xbox. Hopefully T3CH would come up with a new version with bug fixes and upgrades.

Well, I've read through the forum. Reason why xbmc on xbox was discontinued is due to its hardware capabilities have already hit a wall.

Its impossible to run HD content on the Xbox due to the slow processor as well as the gpu. Not to mention the ram too.

Yes, its simply the changing the desktop HDD since they use the same procedure. You would first need to back up the contents of your original hard disk, then transfer it to the upgraded HDD.

Anything more than 500GB would definitely not work practically because the xbox doesn't support such big hard disk. I am using a 160GB and it works wonders (western digital).

If your xbox is not hardmodded(modchip), you can't just copy the files over to the new HDD and replace. Softmodded xbox needs to lock/unlock HDD with eeprom, else it won't be recognised. (Make sure you have your eeprom before you do anything with your current hdd)

Some people have put in larger IDE HDD(750GB), but they need to format with larger clusters. The theoretical limit is 2TB, but there are no such IDE drives in the market and would have to mess with SATA-IDE converters.

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/533828

The above link is the tutorial I used for changing my xbox hdd. Must have method to softmod after, coz the new hdd would be stock.

If you're a lazy type of person, you could try and download Slayer's Bootdisc, and you can unlock the upgraded HDD automatically without any fuss. It will do it for you. You can also set up dashboards from the bootdisc also.

Exactly XBMC is the best dashboard for the Xbox for me. But the xbox's incapability in playing HD videos makes the XBMC team disbanded the xbox and proceed with their project on the PC, Mac and Linux instead.

@kiker,

You need to install the autoboot disk again when you have changed the HDD, because it is installed on the HDD itself, and not inside Xbox's internal memory.

You need someone to install for you as it's not as easy as a DIMM slot.

Tech2 said they can upgrade the RAM. Maybe you should PM them.

unlike neoya X2VGA+ that plug directly to xbox, vdigi use component cable. this mean vdigi can also be used with ps2, gamecube, dvd player, and next-gen consoles.

Team XBMC says Farewell to Original Xbox
>> From xbmc.org:
QUOTE
XBMC (XBMP really) started as a program for modified XBOX consoles. In the following years, XBMC has grown into a multi-platform, multi-architecture media center that runs on most standard hardware. The hardware and legal limitations of the XBOX were always a concern and the Team has instead focused on running on the hardware that most people already have.

The last official release for the XBOX by the XBMC team was Atlantis, over 18 months ago. Since then, one brave soul (Arnova) has been merging code from the main codebase into the XBOX branch in our repository. Because there were many users out there that took advantage of these updates, we had no problem with this.

But times have changed. The XBOX has hard limits for what it can handle. Some users are satisfied with these limits, and we encourage them to use XBMC there if they are happy. But it is a popular misconception that official XBOX development is still taking place by the team, so we have decided to set it free. We have enough on our plates already, and worrying about a deprecated platform just increases our workload. A few days ago the XBOX branch was finally removed from our subversion repository.

But loyal XBMC for XBOX users fear not! In addition to his role as an XBMC developer, Arnova plans to continue development on the XBOX -- just not here. You can find the new project's home at sourceforge. We're leaving it in his hands to decide how to handle the project's administration. How he manages the forum, bug tracker, scm, developers, etc. is up to him. In other words, don't complain to us ;-)

In order to help users to find relevant help and discussion, we will be making the XBOX section of our forum read-only on Monday, June 07. It may be moved in the future, but for now it will stay for reference. This also means the end of XBOX support in the wiki and IRC. Arnova has requested a snapshot of the wiki that he may host if he wishes as we begin to prune XBOX-specfic information from ours.

We wish Arnova and the project the best of luck as we bid a fond farewell to a big part of our past.

Added on June 8, 2010, 9:10 pmXBMC has been my fav xvid player for few years, until .H264 and HD become famous and thus i moved from this to HTPC.

It's probably unofficial continuation of project XBMC by him, himself. It's like more of a freelance project. But I am not too sure. He will be releasing them through sourceforge.

xbox revival thread...
good...
last time b4 360 is out, most of the 360 players discuss are on the ori xbox thread...
anyway, mine is a crystal blue xbox, halo special edition..
modded...
tried evoX,unleashX,xbmc...u name it, most dashboard i've tried, xbmc is the best...
get xbmc with mc360 skin...
it'll make ur gen1 xbox looks like the 360 version...
burned my network port twice, due to lightning...
the 2nd time, until today still finding shops that can replace em with reasonable pricing...
as for guys that upgraded the hdd, i've upgraded and downgraded as well...
from stock 8gb->160gb(detect 130gb only)->downgrade to 40gb..
brick my 80gb due to unlocking error...
bad flashed my modchip, replaced new modchip, still working till today, thinking of changing my modchip...
there are 2 types of modded xbox, hard modded ones...
in the early days, premium modded xbox comes with a price, and it came with premium modded chips...
Xecuter,Xenium and so forth, damn expensive chip...
have to send it to shops to get em modded..
then, u can choose, basic mod or premium modded...
basic mod is u get basic mod chip, Aladdin XT chip...
open up ur xbox, if its red chip, then it Aladdin XT, pre-flashed with EvoX rom..the red diamond logo when u boot up ur xbox...
premium modded, depends on what premium chips these shops brought in..
most of them bring in Xecuter...
bootup with either EvoX logo or Xecuter logo, depends on what they flashed it with...
Aladdin chip with EvoX rom, sorry to say, no matter what size hdd u put in, it'll only detect 130gb, no apps can open up the remaining hd size even with many partitions...
unless u got Aladdin XT with a gem chip, u can upgrade to other rom u enable detection of bigger hd...
modded the fan to run full speed, a lil loud but cooler...
removed the stock thermal compound and replaced it with arctic silver...
accessories, 1 AAA controller, 1 logitech controller, Advanced AV pack(composite,s-video,optical) and HD AV pack(component,s-video,optical)...
best game played, Def Jam:Fight For NY, 2nd would be DOA Beach Volley Ball, hehehe...

Revival? It has always been alive, aside from not much posting. Haha.

Best game so far? Def Jam and Burnout Revenge. Looks way better compared to on the ps2.

Swapped IDE cable to 166.

Anyone selling AV pack? I need one.

i had my xbox since 2006, now its just sitting and collecting dust under my tv cabinet.

Really cant do much with it, dont play console nowadays, dont think its even worth selling considering how old it is. So in the end, why not just mod it to turn into a media station.

I really am a noob at modding, heard you can mod to be able to run emulator and OS. Where should I start? is there a shop that still have modding service for xbox?

Nah. Not pro. I started out knowing nothing about the xbox. Got it, then start tinkering with it. Thanks to the power of the interwebs, I had confidence in tearing it apart and doing stuff to it.

I used to check weather with it, and also, news from the internet until I couldn't put it inside my PC room cause I needed entertainment in my room. Haha.

Shops doing modding? Doubt so. Does your console have a mod chip inside? If yes, it would be easier from where kikersniky pointed out.

You dont have to follow that instruction...
just make sure that ur xbox can run ehem2 games (meaning modded xbox)...
if ur xbox is a modded one, then just use the installer.. and follow the manual...

That's a softmod, it can also be done with a Splinter Cell game, but I doubt many would still sell the memory card in Malaysia, let alone Kuala Lumpur. Ebay would be your best bet.

Guess what.

Was doing street shooting at some smaller town area, then saw a game shop. Walked in, first thing I saw, GREEN XBOX accessory package. Quickly went closer, saw "Xbox AV Pack" *buys!*

Cheaper than second hand seller here in lowyat (sold out by then, minus the cables. ) and I get brand new cable. Going to hook up my Xbox later today.

The xbox's hardware is handicapped in the first place, as the RAM wouldn't be able to render HD videos.

actually it was the encoding. the processor was not design to handle h.264 and wmv-hd @ 720P. but if avi @ 720P still can run smoothly.

my xbox is running xbmc (mc360). executer2, 40GB HDD, two controllers, remote control, xbox AV pack (component out). most of the time playing avi videos, mp3/flac music and photos. seldom play games nowadays.

HDD is getting full and thinking of upgrade to 80GB or higher. recently i try to figure out on how to stream my video files from my laptop via xbox so i could watch the videos on my plasma. but still not workable. i am a noob in this area. biggrin.gif

and i wonder where can i get the USB adapter/dongle for xbox...

Hey you're lucky number #13!, just like in Ocean's thirteen if you've seen the movie, which I assumed you have since you're a movie freak on your xbmc smile.gif .

Tell me what's the problem you're having while trying to stream video files from your laptop to the xbox. I might be able to help you in achieving this objective.

I think if there's none left in ebay, which should be the last batch of production, whether it's expensive or theres none left. But you, can make it yourself though. Do google ; " how to create a usb dongle for the xbox " . You do need a minimal soldering skills to perform this though. Changing the HDD is quite easy.

actually i am a noob for all these things. even changing the 40GB HDD last time, i paid someone to upgrade for me (that person is not available now). now the HDD is getting full (mostly occupied by those 700MB avi movies) sad.gif

talking about streaming from laptop to XBMC, i tried to get some advices and info from the net but still cannot make it right. i hv no problem ftp though (using FlashFXP).

actually what i want is very simple. i just want to connect my laptop and xbmc using a crossover cable (just like what ftp is doing) and i want my xbmc plays those movies/music/picture files from my laptop (vista). i haven't thought about online streaming yet but that could be on a later part. hahaha... i played around those setting like SMB in xbmc, ip address thingy, shared the folders in my laptop, but again, i am a noob in this area thus nothing work.

The Samba system is slightly problematic, but since I use a router, its quite easy. Plus on XP.

Trial and error. I forgot how I got mine to work, but tinker around for over 2 weeks, and factory reset my router like crazy each time I mess up.

Huh? How can it kaput when you disconnect it?

As far as I know, if your output cable isn't attached to the system, it will refuse to start. Try unplugging and plugging it back. Sometimes bad connection also results to the same thing.

Dismantle it? Its easy, just be careful. There are lots of reference online with pictures, so you will not go wrong. Then use a pin to eject it like out PC's optical drive. Then tada~ you got your halo 2 back.

Forgotten how. But if its modded, it will be easier compared to unmodded. If modded, just check in your system setting.

Nope. Swapping out hdd does no difference. You need some hack to bypass the system's hardcode. Softmod also does bypass.

Lately when I was in love again with my big, black Xbox,so it has been awhile that I was take the console out from my room & put it at hall & playing some old game like ninja gaiden & buffy.

It all was great, great time but suddenly after few days playing, the console always hang,& when I restart the console,it always show a message like this: "Your XBOX need to be serviced" & I need to wait for few days before everything is alright before it started to make the same sh1t again. cry.gif

My XBOX has been all standard since 2002 including all the equipment & since it become like this & I missed the oppurtunity to buy another brand new stock,I think I want to mod it,but there is some question for all sifus here blush.gif :

--What is the best modchip available as for now?I know not many game hardware shop wanna take this old XBOX anymore.....(which is make me super duper sad this day! sad.gif )

--I have 5-6 years ago that there is a mod chip that can save all game utility data altogether from the disk & can be saved directly to HDD & make the game playable without disk just like a PC.What kind of mod & modchip is that?
This is the way that I think I should give a try.

Is there any strong community of 1st gen XBOX gamers here or other dedicated forum for fanbase.Because it was super hard to find a game for this console anymore.Be it original or chaplang one....it all always ended up with frustration.

Open up your xbox and clean it. Prolly from dust build-up from all this years. There are guides around online to help you.

Modchip wise, there are no more in the local market. You can ship in modchips but you have to do the soldering yourself. All modchip (well, its more of the alternative xbox OS dashboard which is enabled by the modchip) will let you save your games and save files on the HDD.

Anyway, I recalled the installer I used back then is All-in-one Installer Deluxe but they have softmod now! Try it out but read the instruction thoroughly before attempting it since it does wipe out the original OS. notworthy.gif

No need to find originals to hack it anymore! And do install XBMC. You can then watch movies on your xbox like what I do to mine. thumbup.gif

In my opinion, most of the older Xbox 1 games are either available on the PC or the PS2, it is wiser to get the game on the other platform. Like you said, NTSC-J game from that era is rare now.and too much hastle trying to modify the Xbox 1.

There are some games best played on a larger screen or on a controller compared to traditional keyboard and mouse. Besides, since one has the hardware, might as well extend its life than leaving it there to rot and die.
