QUOTE(knuckleballer @ Oct 10 2009, 02:21 AM) If going to buy a backup phone, might as well buy a good one that has aga aga the same features. These are my impressions so far: Good - Easy to use. This is my first Sony Ericsson phone, and I think the GUI is much more intuitive than my N82 Symbian one. - Solid build. Small and compact. The slider feels smooth and not cheap. My N82 was a finger-print magnet. But the material used for the W995 surface makes finger prints less obvious. The phone buttons easy to press, not like my N82. - Camera is good at taking landscape pictures. - Speaker and connectivity is decent. Nothing special though. Bad - The 8MP camera doesn't seem as good as my N82 5MP camera. I can't seem to make the W995 camera take close-up objects properly. There's always motion-blur or something. Maybe because it was using poor lighting or I haven't learned to use it properly yet. (Edit: blur issue solved - see my next post in this thread) Also the flash isn't as nice as the N82 Xenon flash. But overall I like my W995 very much. This post has been edited by Andrew Lim: Oct 11 2009, 03:53 AM |

have to admit, N82 is indeed one heck of a camera phone. but shouldnt W995's 8mp be better? i mean the normal shots.

Never had the chance to compare the two phones. But W995 sure beats Innov8 for indoor shots with moderate lighting. I made a comparison shot last week and it really surprised me. Dunno anyone who has N82 so I can't say but 3R-4R printed photos for normal shots from W995 looks like digicam quality, I guess printing good pics is all that matters at the end of the day

Okay, I've updated from version R1FA035 to R1GA026. It took awhile though. I installed the Update Service program from the SE website. It had to download about 100mb of data to install into the phone.
Edit: I think I've figured out why my close up pictures look blur. It's my technique. I've been using the W995 the way I use my N82. When taking a picture, I hold the button slightly until the square focuses, wait a moment, then I press all the way. For some reason this makes my pictures look blurry. Now I just press the camera button all the way instantly, and my pictures (both wide and close-up) are a lot sharper. This post has been edited by Andrew Lim: Oct 11 2009, 03:51 AM |

QUOTE(knuckleballer @ Oct 11 2009, 01:50 PM) The camera still focuses for a second when I press all the button all the way down.But I think for my case if I focus for too long, any slight movements of the camera caused by my hands will affect the image quality. I tested again... if I keep really really still, then even if I focus for a long time the picture still looks okay. How about other W995 users? |

QUOTE(knuckleballer @ Oct 11 2009, 01:50 PM) Actually a lot of people don't realize that you only need to do one press for the shutter button to focus and snap all at once on SE phones and yes, it's a good way to get steady shots, use to do that a lot with my W902 because the button was a bit stiff to press, but I don't do it as often on W995 because the button's tactility is much better.@Andrew Yes, all cam phones with LED flash is not as easy to handle as Xenon flash phones since the shutter speed is significantly much less with LED making sharp pictures somewhat harder to achieve, but macro in daylight should be a piece of cake really, since the shutter speed is really fast. But for indoor shots, there's a trick to holding the camera so you can get a steady shot, the answer is in the boy's eyes Attached thumbnail(s) |

Normally bug fixes and improvements. After you install it if should give you instructions on what to do. For me it download about 100+ mb of data. Yes it will erase all your phone data, but won't affect your memory card or SIM card. If you feel like your W995 runs okay, then no need to update. After all if it's not broken, why fix it? But I risked it anyway and updated it. |

@Andrew
The part that looks like my legs are actually my arms LOL @-Max91- If you decide to go ahead, backup your data (phonebook, sms, notes, calender, settings etc) with MyPhoneExplorer (MPE), you can dowload it here http://www.fjsoft.at/en/downloads.php Never trust SE's own backup software, it's essentially crap compared to MPE |

I don't know if there's warranty for the labels or not. Yours is OP? Maybe can ask or call up the service center.
