Haha! Thanks for welcoming all of us! Seriously its a really nice gathering! It has a different air compared to the one in Mines. Its more friendly and everyone keeps talking to each other! Its really refreshing!
Its my first time on joysticks yesterday and YES, I AM HOOKED! I guess it just needs practice but after some time playing with Iman's (I think thats how you spell your name right? Sorry if I got it wrong!) smooth joystick, I feel like getting one myself. I can use it for other fighting games as well. It needs some getting used to since I have always been playing with a D-pad but I love playing Cammy with a joystick. Feels very smooth! Had a few friendly matches around and I am definitely SERIOUSLY considering getting one! I would have to feedback to the people in Penang about this since I happen to know the organizer so I hope that the standard in Penang's competitions would be raised a notch to be on par with the one in KL. Anyone who wants to yamcha, just drop me a message and I will pm you my HP no. Just a casual outing is fine. Not necessarily have to play. Everyone is also welcome to just come and meet up in my house to come play together just for fun like a gathering:) Like I said, just let me know in advance k? Thanks again for the welcome and its so nice going out with you guys! Hope to learn more things from all of you pros out there! P/S: Desmond is happy coz he managed to convert me to a "joystick" player already. |

QUOTE(Darkstalker @ Aug 3 2009, 12:50 AM) It's Aiman. Oops! Sorry for the spelling error. My bad! I am probably one of the worst people when it comes to spelling people's names:(Btw, the instant air cannon spike is done by going qcb, uf + K. If you use the EX one, it's just qcb, ub + KK (though you can use u or uf too). ___ For those that missed it, you guys should try to come for the next one. Alvin and I like to spam the dates of the gatherings so you can always just ask us if you're unsure. Today's crowd was a bigger than usual. We got a LOT of newcomers, two of them making to the knockout stages, orange shirt (Sagat) and horizontal shirt (Abel) who are designated so because I ended up not talking to them besides asking if they wanted to change the controls, as they were from the Dark SideĀ of Pad players. We had LOTS of people just coming by to watch. We got the fans of the games all cheering and talking and socialising, and then we got those that just happened to be there watching because it seemed fun to them to watch. If you didn't get it from before, it's actually very friendly, even if you ask the best of players. We discuss tips on how to beat each other and ourselves, cause it's all in the name of fun. Sure there's shit talking, but it's not personal. It just adds a bit of drama and becomes something to laugh at, especially if we cannot backup our shit talk. If you want to get better, coming to one of these gatherings cum tourneys is one of the best ways. We're not shy of sharing info and tips or techniques. Thanks goes to jaylike for dropping by to play a casual match and ask for tips even though he was busy. Hope you gets to go to the next one. Anyway, I really do agree that all of you are really friendly and do share tips willingly! Its shocking to see moves we only see in youtube executed in real life! It definitely did shock the hell out of us newbies (since its our first time there!) and we can't stop talking about it even when we are back home! Haha! Btw, teach me your gila punya Balrog. I am not really good in back-front characters but I am slowly learning though:) |

QUOTE(rawfish @ Aug 13 2009, 03:15 AM) Yes, it's 1 day now as we try to look after the best interest of the contestants and fans, vs corporate decisions - no one wishes to go to 1U for 2 days in a row, on a weekend. And it'll be too tiring for the contestant. Awwwww thank you, Desmond! Haha! Yes, he is my friend, Jason Sim who will be coming down to join the tournament. As for the 'pads vs sticks' concerns, please allow me to at least try explain this. Players will be assigned to individual groups where they face off each other in a Round Robin format. This will be fair as even if they lose, they can try to do better in the next match to gain points. These groups will be controller-type specific. Meaning Group A, B, C, D... (depending on number of PAD signups) will be PAD-only, while the rest E, F, G, H.. will be STICK-only (as example). At this point I hope I'm being clear. This may seem like an unpopular decision, but is a needed one - because we are trying to weigh in the best possible fair scenario VS the required resources to coordinate the Qualifyers smoothly (time, manpower, etc). We have leveraged from past tournaments (the first Cineleisure one especially comes to mind) where time were needlessly wasted getting the pairing of pads/sticks done. This may seem like a simple step, but it involves the constant plugging in/out of users' own equipment after each match, then going back to the title screen or accessories number assignment to ensure accurate pairing. There's also the risk of pressing the HOME button on the wireless pads and interrupting the neighboring match, which is definitely an unwanted unprofessional scenario. Having the choice to use sticks is already half the battle won. If you'd like to read my experience sharing of The Mines' tournament as a participant, do spend time here: http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=1102397 Me and Alan are both gamers with SF experience going back to the early arcade days. Rest assured we are driven by passion to bring this event together, for the fans. Alan has vast experience doing many major events (movie, toy-line, game-themed ones among many others), while my past experiences were with the Street Fighter III ones back when I was with Capcom (Alpha Oriental). There are pros in both the PAD and STICK camp and if you think you fare better at either side, by all means choose wisely when registering. It's fair game for all, because eventually the ones with enough points will face each other in the knock-out rounds i.e. a pad player will face a stick one. As far as I know, in the Evo qualifying pools, contestants were allowed the free choice of pads and sticks but do remember it's a very tightly-organized event run by a big crew, over a number of days, and with plenty of sponsorship. We are inclined to have the rules for this weekend's tournament localized, because that would just seem like the right thing to do, business-wise - and in the interest of having the continued opportunities to do future events with Sony. I really hope these do address these concerns, and hope you can all turn up for this event. Do continue to share your much appreciated input. Hey you must be Quist's friend. She's a very good SF4 ambassador and truly a gem from the Pearl Nice meeting you here and will look forward for your participation. I think you may want to know more about the registration - this is handled by Sony (on that day), but once Alan (the organizer and event coordinator) advise further, I guess I/we can take in online sign-ups. Appreciate your time coming down here for this event - you WILL certainly enjoy it! There will be a mini gathering in my place on Friday night just in case any of you want to train. Do let me know if anyone is interested in coming! Lau Pan: I already spoke to the Sony organizers in Penang but most of them are reluctant to allow the usage of sticks or your own controllers in fear that people complain. I seriously don't understand why is that a problem but I guess this is one of their flaws. I also gave my feedback to them and the next time when I am down in Penang, I will personally meet up with the organizers to talk to them about organizing a better tournament. That is probably one of the reasons why I am going to help out in the tournament this saturday instead of joining. Darkstalker: Good spirit! Keep it up! People are getting pumped up for the competition already! anotheryou: That's a good suggestion! With the right expertise in managing and organizing the event, I am sure this can be realized! |

QUOTE(MasterAlvin @ Aug 13 2009, 11:30 PM) ATTENTION TO ALL THOSE WHO ARE GOING TO TRAIN AT QUIST'S PLACE TMRW: Thanks for posting up, Alvin! Really appreciate it! I've talked to and have confirmed with both Quist and Alan, tmrw's training will be shifted to Outpost on day time, due to the fact that Alan has a better set up and space, plus F&B available. Those who are planned to go to Quist's place, pls kindly go to Outpost from 2:30pm onwards, if you have an extra LCD and PS3 to bring, pls feel free to do so. Quist also mentioned that the training sessions will be able to continue at her place, after Alan's shop's business hours (means he tutup for the day). And Alan is needing some volunteers to help him to unlock all the characters on a few Tournament PS3, so that all characters will be available on the tournament day. pls kindly speak to Alan @Outpost tomorrow if you are willing to help to make the tournament a success. GLHF. Added on August 13, 2009, 10:38 pm search this thread for ANDREW, you will know. I think its a good idea to go to outpost in the afternoon and after outpost, you guys can come chill out in my place. What say you guys? Just let me know before hand k so I can prepare. Been down with a sprained ankle at the moment but feel free to let me know if you guys need help. |

So many people know each other here! Its such a happening and supportive community! I love it!
Will probably be applying to be a marshal again in the future (Only IF Alan allows!). It was so much fun meeting all of you! I also enjoyed playing several casual rounds with Anthony (Zangief82), Nick (who pawns me with his rufus as always! Bleh!) and Ben Ben (beautiful E.Honda!) Do update me about any gatherings or events in the future. I will probably organize another gathering this coming friday but that is still subject to attendance and support. Anyone in for it? |

What are you listening to on your mp3 player while you're fighting anyway? Jason was listening to Vocaloids (namely Hatsune Miku) when he was playing. That was the last song he let me hear anyway. Haha!:)Stick users, don't write us off just yet! Mikeee.. look forward to a rematch someday. To quote from Zangief himself: I hate fireballs. |

QUOTE(hatred___ @ Aug 17 2009, 07:50 PM) Yo peeps! Cannot sayang balik already. I merajuk! *whines and runs over to poke Big Mac as usual* I should train more often. I lack training even at home since I don't have an analog joystick. I should start saving up for one...Finally got time to reply. Was kinda feeling sick and became seriously sick after the event (not H1N1, don't worry). Million thanks for those who made this happen. GREAT event. Once again Alan, you outdone yourself. And not forgetting the wonderful marshals Desimund, LeongTeng5 and Quist. GREAT event, GREAT turn up, GREAT outcome. Need I say more? Once again, thanks. Looking forward to the next one. P/S: Sorry lah Quist, you were the only one I stood a chance against that day. The rest of the day I kena thrashed left right centre. LOL. Sayang balik, OK? P/S: Senzr, Kileak, nice meeting and playing with ya all. Thanks for photo of my humble stick. Alan: Hi guys - here is some thought to make the tournament even better, specially those who want to capture videos. 1) Probably next time - if i have enough materials and equipments...we can have a camera or a web cam focusing on players face. Each cam for each player and center screen shows the current match. Need someone who has the necessary materials and equipments though. Also need to get someone who isn't taking part in the competition to handle them so all matches could be recorded at ease. 2) Better stereo equipments as I am a pretty well MC and can make the event even better. 3) Tables and space got to be bigger 4) A sofa or seats for contestant who waits for their match. I am on for all these! Its more comfortable for the audience and players alike to be able to sit and wait instead of stand. There is a long waiting time in between turns and players do get tired as well. 5) Perhaps with some sponsors - Catering for snacks and water We can probably get some of us fellow players who can cook well to cook as well. Perhaps prepare a small buffet or something light such as finger food for players. How about a water dispenser sort of thing where we just hand out paper cups and they get to refill by themselves? That's pretty economical too! 6) Limited Edition Tshirts only for SF community - The more you win, the more title we embrodered for you. something like achievement on ps3 I really like this idea! 7) More cosplayers standing next to the players as supporters... 8) OR a sexy female street fighter stand in between the players and say GO !!! - like racing car thingy... Most cosplayers would like to be paid for their services. Perhaps we can get some volunteers who would like exposure in the cosplay world to do it for free. There are some cosplayers who don't mind cosplaying just as a passion. Just my opinion about things! This post has been edited by Quistreous: Aug 17 2009, 08:58 PM |
