Yeah, Big Mac / Kodanshi really really deserved the win. He works hard with his character and has not really been successful in each tournament and always came to very close finishes.
In fact, I think both Abels (the other one being Vern, who took 3rd place and plays on pad) did excellent. They both fought against an army of Giefs all the way - which is quite a bad character match-up for their character.
1st runner-up keen2keen made his first SF4 tournament debut, though he's no stranger to previous SF series tourneys - and what an impressive debut indeed! His Gief were among the best ones who showed up at the tourney, all with different styles. I think he really left a big impression on most players who were (unfortunately) crushed by him on his way to the finals...
We also had a pad Elf (4th place), Rei, who had a case of tourney jitters and missed his RSF, Run-Stop-Fierce (hard punch) loop many times, because in offline play he can usually score 3-4 RSFs successfully which is very very crucial to winning with this tofu character.
Many tourney regulars returned today with very evident improved skill, which just shows how important it is to gain experience and learn from mistakes is, when playing SF competitively.
To everyone who attended, thank you so much for coming and making this an exciting event (especially to our Muslim bros who's fasting)... let's await from Alan to bring more good news of more tourneys in future (none so far). As for myself, I think I will start to resume my training as I really want to participate in the next one! Tak tahan already kekekeke..
The finals were really nail-biting. It was down to the last match (best of 3) and last round (best of 3) and last pixels of health... a real classic match which really left huuuuuuuuuuge pressure on both finalists... and their expressions of relief after it concluded was truly PRICELESS!!
I think videos of the finals were not captured completely due to insufficient memory card storage.... which brings to point - YOU HAVE TO BE THERE IN PERSON NEXT TIME! (thanks in advance, MasterAlvin
