You can use weed killer or call lalang killer chemical from nursery. Add it with water and spray at your garden. Between 2week, all the grass or whatever will die. Than you can start plant your grass.

No need new soil. But if you plant those taiwan grass or similiar, you need fine sand.

planting grass is really not easy. let alone a corner lot. you'll still need to till the land and add the seed at the correct depth. the rest, u will depend on nature. in the end, i just the grass and put on top of existing ones. i didn't say i'm perfectionist by the way :)

I don't no your area. The best is go to sg.buloh. Sure have.

My way is

1) Kill the grass with weed killer
2) wait 2week.
3) take out the dead grass and make the soil loose by cangkul.
4) Buy the ready grass. Chop it to 4-6pcs equally. Depend your budget.
5) plant it equal space on the graden.
6) Put the fine sand on the grass and soil. Let the grass grow.
7) Everymonth spray with water mix with grass fertilizer.
8) Donn't forget to pickup those wild grass everymonth or when you see it.

After 6-8moth, you will see your garden green like golf coarse. :)

This weed killer is poison and control item. Not all shop can sell. People use it to suidcide.

Just take 1 weekend morning and go to sg.buloh nursery. It is a nice place to walk around and see so many plant and green. It soot your eye.  :clap:

nursery price roughly around rm4 per square feet for pearl grass.. last time i check few years back :sweat:

after clearing the existing weeds/grass, just roll the grass over if cost allowed.

oh.. make sure the weeds dont grow over ur grass, else it will be taken over by it

Thank God I only have a small area. Barely 5 feet by 50 feet. :) I hired a gardener one morning to dig up all the old grass, but they just use a cangkul and hacked off the top layer of soil together with the wild grass. I didn't use any weed killer.

I got my contractor to bring over a truck load of sand to level the place, then I bought 10 pieces (1 feet x 2 feet) of "Japan" grass (finer than Philippine grass) from Sg Buloh.

The gardener teared off pieces and planted the grass in the sand spread out.

It's been 3 weeks now. Got wild grass grow here and there, and I dig them out together with the roots as I see them. I think "mostly", the wild grass was killed, but some are coming out and the roots go real deep. :lol:

The new grass seems to be growing well. I guess it will take half a year at least to cover the whole garden evenly. Need to go look for this grass fertiliser.

I don't mind this weeding. It's quite relaxing. :) Can spend 15 minutes every day, and pull out maybe 7-8 weeds? Also, get to enjoy my little garden patch also. haha.

I don't think I can cope with 20x70 sized garden. :lol:
