QUOTE(geekster129 @ Feb 15 2009, 05:56 PM) It depends. There are many types of VPN implementation. Some uses the SSL/TLS security means they are somewhere Transport layer and Security layer. The network layer may also be affected because there are some IP reassignment and mapping process being done. Kenneth, you're currently studying on CCNA? meaning more on routing and switching? QUOTE(Kenneth85 @ Feb 15 2009, 05:57 PM) specialized in routing and switching. this part oso not bad..i read edi...like the automatic fault recovery...got tat load balancing method and another very funny(I llol-ed at it)...the backup router keep asking the 1st router :"are u ok?"...haha...

QUOTE(geekster129 @ Feb 15 2009, 06:07 PM) Yeah. Something like a floating IP. I remembered my client asks us to use that IP so my system will never know that the server is down, because the switchover process is seemless CODE E.g. 192.168.0.1 (floating IP) Â ------------> Â 10.0.0.1 (Server A) Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â | Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â ------------> 10.0.0.2 (Server B)
I'll always access 192.168.0.1 as the server. But the physical IP is 10.0.0.1, So if 10.0.0.1 is down, then the floating IP will take over 10.0.0.2, but from my system's point of view, it will never know which physical server it is accessing. oo...tat 1st one more like domain..then the server are the name server la..

QUOTE(geekster129 @ Feb 15 2009, 06:16 PM) Not really domain or name server. Domain and name servers are used to resolve IPs, more like a DNS. oo...i mean tat the 192.168.0.1 is masking the real server la....

QUOTE(gsrc @ Feb 15 2009, 06:18 PM) Simply put, when Server A is down... CODE E.g. 192.168.0.1 (floating IP) Â XXXXXXXXXX> Â 10.0.0.1 (Server A) Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â | Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â ------------> Â 10.0.0.2 (Server B)
X = No response from Server A like our browser dns...got 2..if 1st not responding then go for 2...correct? oso same lik name server..we mostly put 2 ns...coz 1st down,go for 2nd?

QUOTE(gsrc @ Feb 15 2009, 06:30 PM) For the outer world (Internet) to access your place, you surely need to suscribe to Streamyx or VPN. Then they will give you an IP one. That's why there's Corporate level of subscription for Streamyx, which provides you a STATIC IP, that doesn't changes everytime you logged on. (Compared to normal user one, it assigns a random number to you) Actually the 192.168.0.1 is the internal IP. Refer diagram below: So my PC is 192.168.0.6, which is not accessible by the internet people. They will only see 115.132.107.115, because the router help us create a smaller network inside our house, this helps by saving more IP addresses (Coming near to a limit soon, that's why IPv6 is coming out) Won't be so jin gak, but will be verryyyy jin gak only right lol..tat IP i know la..it's called fixed IP...mostly used by server as u dun wan always update ur domain after a network reset or modem reset etc....
