QUOTE(geekster129 @ Feb 17 2009, 12:20 PM) Depends on what kind of routing. If you are using a router purely to store routing information like RIP, then use a router rather than a server. so those BT VPN need a server rather than a router?coz i saw got those server like router big ones...tat kind oso cant handle? It depends on what kind of VPN also. Some routers can handle VPN also given the processing power. But if you're talking about heavy duty traffic the router might not be able to handle because you have to consider the encryption overhead for the VPN implementation. There are actually many types of VPN. Sometimes a leased-line is VPN-like. MPLS is also VPN. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VPN#Virtual_p...vice_.28VPLS.29 |

QUOTE(geekster129 @ Feb 17 2009, 12:35 PM) Maybe in the future where higher processing power is needed for routers (possibly different types of applications in a standalone box such as deep packet scanning, security suites, etc.) Tat will be better...running a server is costly...and the server itself oledi cost a bomb... |
