Dunno who Barney Stinson is, but suits are really only worn by certain people at certain times.

If you're a low level employee that people have trouble taking seriously and you go about in a cheap suit indiscriminately, people will think you're not only young and inexperienced, they will also think you are stupid.

For some people in some circumstances, not wearing a suit is a sign that you should be removed from your job. Immediately. Think of when meeting with ministers at officiating ceremonies, industry prize-giving ceremonies, when giving a speech to other businesspeople...

Suits are highly ceremonial in nature. They also happen to be, in this country, worn infrequently, but when a suit is called for, much depends on it being a good one. There is no better way to lower your status than weraring a bad suit when the spotlight shines on you and several hundred eyes gaze upon you.

But what Malaysians do not know is that there exists a whole genre of tailored clothing that is based around the tailored jacket but which is unmistakably casual. An opened neck buttondown shirt with a cream linen jacket worn with jeans is perceived as casual by everyone whose opinions are worth anything. (fan cheongs will remain fan cheongs and will always be clueless and stupid)

This Stinson guy is irrelevant to the wearing of tailored garments.

If this Barney guy is a caricature, then izwanz's question could only have come from a stupendously stupid pea-sized brain.

It's like asking, "If I dress like Ronald McDonald will people laugh at me?"
